Chapter 1729: Share of The Profit

The Erudite Duchess was about to enter seclusion to refine the Source Wood Qi and completely heal her injuries when she suddenly sensed something. Glancing at the visitors through the room’s array, she was genuinely puzzled by their arrivals. Regardless, she still invited them in. Wang Wei, as shameless as he was, looked forward to some unique Saint Tier tea from the duchess with great benefits. Sadly for him, she did not invite him to tea and directly asked:

"Tell me why you came to see me?"

Maitreya first bowed: "I’ve come to pay my debt, and to ask for another favor."

"Oh?" This was the first time someone had repaid their debt so soon. Maitreya did not waste time and told her everything Wang Wei told her. Although the information was not as detailed as Wang Wei’s conversation with Hongjun, and many secrets were hidden, the information was still crucial to the Erudite Duchess.

"The Prehistoric World," the duchess muttered before giving Wang Wei a fleeing glance. That place was one of the mysteries that intrigued her. In some way, that world is the oldest Chaos World in existence. While many worlds existed before it, the devastating war that ravaged the Chaos Demon God Age destroyed all these worlds, leaving only the Prehistoric World.

The Erudite Duchess has invested in the Prehistoric World a few times. The first time was when she was a Paragon, but the Guardian sent her away with a warning. After sanctifying, she tried again, but she was only evenly matched with the Guardian. Although she tried a few more tricks, they were all unsuccessful. Finally, after ascending to the second step, the duchess attempted again.

With her unparalleled power, she easily suppressed the Guardian, but as she was about to succeed, the latter summoned an ax that sent chills down her spine. With one glance at that artifact, the Erudite Duchess saw flashes of her death. After that, she labeled the Prehistoric World as a third-step secret, meaning she would only unravel it after becoming a Grand Dao Saint.

’I wonder whether Old Man Fahai knows this information?’ the Erudite Duchess thought. If the latter doesn’t, she might be able to exchange some goods with him. The duchess has been thinking of Monk Fahai’s Marrow Washing Pool. If she could bathe in it, her Flesh Quintessence would push to a higher level, thus further elevating her strength.

"Your information is valuable," the Erudite Duchess said while looking at Maitreya. "Our karma is concluded." An invisible line between the two suddenly dissipated. "What else do you need?"

"I want to ask the Lord to help me refine the drop of blood," Maitreya revealed.

The Erudite Duchess thought briefly: "Have you already returned to the Buddha Janitram World after sanctifying?"

"I haven’t accomplished my pilgrimage yet." Every monk, at some point, will journey to the birthplace of Buddhism. As someone with a [True Name], Maitreya has been there after becoming a Peak Paragon. However, she’s been delaying the second voyage, waiting until her strength is higher.

"As a Saint, you are allowed to read up to the 30th level of the Scripture Pavilion," the Erudite Duchess uttered. "In exchange for my help, I need you to memorize and copy the books in the 27th and 30th layer, followed by your comprehension of the other scriptures."

Maitreya hesitated, but the duchess did not rush her. Only monks can read scripture from the 30th to 36th layers, and the 27th layer was recently updated. The Duchess knew Monk Fahai wouldn’t break the rules no matter what and would not make an exception for her.

"Lord, are those scriptures Buddhism’s core secrets?"

"Yes and no," the Erudite Duchess explained. "After the First Buddha descended into the world and preached, his words were recorded in the scripture pavilion, stored in the last six layers. Previous Abbots had no scruples about sharing these words of wisdom with the world, but the current leader, Abbot Fahai, is a stickler for rules. He doesn’t mind if others share the words, but he will not allow non-monks to enter those layers.

"If you want, you can be perfectly honest with him about our deal. Although he will give you some side-eye, he won’t say anything else."

"Is that so? In that case, I agree."

"Excellent, give me the bottle."

The duchess’s jade hands reached out to catch the bottle and remove the drop of blood. With a flicker of her wrist, a Yin-Yang Symbol manifested before spinning rapidly. The drop of blood passed through the rotating symbol, rapidly turning golden in the process.

’Fahai — I remember reading a story of Buddha disguising himself as a mortal monk and using that name. Such a name has some interesting implications,’ Wang Wei thought. First, there is the Mother Buddha, Maitreya, then Ksitigarbha, who wanted to purify hell, and now the mortal reincarnation of Buddha. If Wang Wei considered how Ye Dafu showed similarities with Sun Wukong, the traces of the Prehistoric World are everywhere in the Chaos Universe.

"Now it’s your turn."

The duchess’s words brought Wang Wei back from his contemplation. His expression changed to a more respectful yet confident one. "Lord, I’m here to ask for a share of the profit. Whatever it is you have planned for the Grand Constructs, I sincerely request a record of the process to study."

The Erudite Duchess calmly glanced at him: "Do you think you’re worthy?"

"I’m not, but it’s not in my nature not to try."

The duchess was not trying to humiliate Wang Wei. Although her words were harsh, she was telling the truth: he was not worthy to participate in such a matter. However, she cannot ignore the fact that it was Wang Wei’s words that awakened them from the effect of the spiritual hint.

’If I’m being honest, his actions are not worth a Grand Construct record,’ the Erudite Duchess analyzed. ’And I could probably settle this karma with a lower reward. However, based on his previous actions, he’s a petty individual. While he may not seek revenge in the future on account of my relationship with Wu Hong, why take the risk?’

If she had to choose between profit and the peace of mind of knowing she did not offend a future Grand Dao Saint, choosing the latter was the wise move. ’And despite his petty nature, he seems to be the kind of person who values friendships,’ the duchess thought. She was not stupid. When she made the first deal with Maitreya, it was apparent that the latter knew nothing about Buddhism’s origins, but now she had revealed the secret.

"Your idea was indeed valuable, but it’s not enough to receive a share. How about another reward?"

"I don’t want any other rewards," Wang Wei shook his head. He has been thinking about building a prototype of his Dao Quintessence since his previous failure. His original plan was to use his nephew’s minor construct in the lower dimension to experience what it’s like to be the embodiment of a construct. Still, Wang Wei felt this plan would have a much higher chance of success if he could get his hands on these Tribunal Lords’ record of controlling or swallowing this timeline’s constructs.

"I can add information to achieve an equivalent exchange," Wang Wei uttered.

"Oh? What information do you have?"

"How about the origin of the Prehistoric World?"

"You know such secrets? Interesting." A glint flashed in the duchess’s eyes. "However, that is not enough."

"Lord, if I may be so bold, you’re being greedy," Wang Wei calmly said. "The origin of the Prehistoric World involved numerous interconnected secrets. For someone like you who is walking the path of Heaven Dao, it’s invaluable."

"That remains to be seen," the Erudite Duchess replied with a look.

"How about I share the information first, and you can decide?"

"How magnanimous of you. However, aren’t you afraid I would take your information for nothing?"

"I hope you do," Wang Wei calmly stated. "That way, the karma between you and my wife can be settled."

The Erudite Duchess would never do such a thing. Her pride and personality would not allow it, not to mention how stupid she would be to allow Wu Hong to settle such profound karma so easily. "Very well, let’s see the information."

Wang Wei did not hesitate to condense his information into a talisman. Besides his relationship with Hongjun and the current situationship of Earth and the Prehistoric World, he told her about Pangu, his madness, the battle against the 3000 Chaos Demon Gods, the war against the Destruction General, and the act of turning his body into a world. Wang Wei also hid the fact that the Prehistoric World was affected by the tear in reality made by Pangu, but he guessed the Erudite Duchess would probably have her own theory about the effect of that tear, but that didn’t matter to him.

Meanwhile, the Duchess was shocked by this information, and even finally showed some facial reaction.
