Chapter 1835: Reward & Damage

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

No one answered Wang Wei, but he didn’t care. The presence of that beautiful arm was reassuring enough. He had already conditioned his mind not to rely on his future self, so he did not expect this save. Regardless, he was glad it happened. Life was beautiful, and no matter how he had already planned to wait for his loved one to revive him, it was a good thing to be alive now.

Wu Hong’s arm and Grand Dao fought in an unknown space-time for a few seconds before a conclusion occurred. First, the arm and Grand Dao’s eyes disappeared from his Spiritual World. For a moment, Wang Wei thought this was the end of this event, but a sudden change forced him to think otherwise.

A beautiful, magnificent white-and-gold hall manifested within his spiritual world. As soon as someone lays eyes on that building, they will be captivated — no matter who they are. And that’s not because of its brilliant architectural design, but because of the intense Dao Rhymes emanating from it. Although it was just a projection, Wang Wei immediately felt he was having an epiphany, and this feeling was not unique to him — everybody who laid eyes on this hall would feel the same.

"The Hall of Record," Wang Wei thought. Although he had never seen this hidden Grand Construct, he instinctively knew what it was; this construct came with its own Information Spreading Domain. Wang Wei’s eyes shone with excitement; after all, who wouldn’t be excited at witnessing one of Grand Dao’s secrets?

However, his excitement soon turned into apprehension. Why was this thing here of all time? A bad feeling suddenly spread to every corner of his being. The Hall of Records was here for him. As soon as he had this idea, it became impossible to remove it from his mind. What happened next proved he was correct.

The hidden construct trembled slightly before condensing a chain composed entirely of runes, which slowly descended from the sky toward Wang Wei. The Fate Domination Emperor wanted to evade, but he realized his body — no, his spirit — was immobile.

"No need to resist," said a beautiful voice.

"Wife?"

"A stable environment is most beneficial to us. Just bear with it for a while."

A gentle wind caressed Wang Wei’s face, and he closed his eyes to enjoy it. Sadly, the process only lasted a few seconds before he had to open his eyes. Sighing to himself, he waited for his fate. Anyway, it’s not like he had any choice. As he previously concluded, intelligence without power to back it is nothing but empty air.

The rune chain entered his mind before disappearing inside his Sea of Consciousness, and Wang Wei finally understood its purpose: A Secret Lock. From now on, he is forbidden from uttering Cthulhu’s or any of the Great Old Ones’ names or summoning them through a ritual. Grand Dao has cut off his deterrent.

Boom!

This was not the end. Just as Wang Wei was about to complain, he once again felt his wife’s power, and this time, the target was him. His Fate Line appeared, and Wu Hong’s power entered it to casually condense two Fate Nexuses. With one glance, Wang Wei understood what these Fate Nexuses were. He needed six second-step materials for his 81 Veins Otherworldly Foundation. Mingyunjun was one, and these two Fate Nexus were two other fortunate encounters to hand over two others for him.

"Well, at least, there was some benefit," Wang Wei thought with a grin. However, his happiness still had room for improvement. Another power manifested from the Grand Dao and entered Wang Wei’s Fate Line, which made him frown at first. However, when he saw what was happening, he couldn’t help but grin.

His Time Nexuses — the one he would have to experience during the Saint Realm — were being slowly healed. Wang Wei’s grin intensified. By now, he had long theorized that the reason for his many Time Nexuses was due to his Transcendent Self’s actions. The act of reforging his foundation was taboo among Transcendents, and the price to pay was a test with a high likelihood of failure. The test manifests itself in the form of all these Time Nexuses.

If Wang Wei can survive all of them, his Transcendent Self will have succeeded in reforging his foundation. If he dies during one of these Time Nexuses, his Transcendent Self would pay a price for his action. The price is probably not his life, but it will still be painful. In the end, even True Transcendents are not completely free.

"Grand Dao must have paid an enormous price to deal with all these Time Nexuses," Wang Wei smiled. The causality involved with any of his Time Nexuses was enormous, and now, Grand Dao had compromised with his future wife. In exchange for the secret about the Great Old Ones’ being sealed, the latter had to help him eradicate them.

So, Wang Wei watched as all four of his Time Nexuses in the Saint Realm disappeared — except one. He even knew what this one was: it’s the one before he ascended to the Tribunal Saint Realm. Wang Wei took this seriously as the last nexus is always the harshest. And in the vision, he saw that when his future self told him to close the loop, the last Time Nexus was when he tried to become a Grand Dao Saint.

The deal struck by these two beings who existed beyond time and space ended. Wang Wei felt he was about to leave his Spiritual World, so he hurriedly called, "Wife, how have you been? Any last words you want to say?"

"The future is long and arduous, so be careful of everything. And don’t underestimate Heavenly Book Paragon. His destiny — in all timelines that he exists in — is to be the pinnacle of [Immortality]."

Wang Wei frowned. A part of him did indeed lower the threat of Heavenly Book Paragon after entering the Ancestral Fiendgod Realm and the Soul Ancestor Realm. However, since even his future wife warned him that he would be a threat, he had to take it seriously.

"How can my last Fate Nexus be an easy task to deal with?" Wang Wei thought. After shaking his head, he opened his eyes. No one seemed to have detected the legendary battle that had just taken place. Looking around, Wang Wei could see that everybody was in pain. He frowned as he realized everyone, including Wangchen and Chenli, was inside his Grandmist Wheel World.

The Source Qi Cardinal did not spare any life coming out of the Chaos Origin Realm — everybody had to be purified. Thinking of this, Wang Wei was about to react, but it was too late. An intense white light entered his body, and it immediately started to scan every inch of his [Existence], trying to find traces of anomalies to purify.

Wang Wei grunted. If not for the intense pain, he would have lashed out in anger. Such rough purification was so invasive. Imagine if someone could search a person’s memories, scan every cell, atom, and even subatomic particle in their bodies — no one could accept such a profound invasion of privacy. But Grand Dao didn’t care.

Small traces of black aura were released from Wang Wei’s body, a sign that he was indeed subtly affected by Cthulhu’s presence. But he was not happy about that; he had never bought the bullshit of handing more rights to higher entities, such as the government, for personal safety. And now, Grand Dao was essentially using the same justification to invade his [Existence].

"Bastards," Wang Wei suddenly groaned. What he feared had occurred. The purification did not only target the Great Old One’s traces, but everything Grand Dao had deemed taboo. And Wang Wei could say he was one of the most involved individuals regarding taboo.

First, the light targeted his connection to the Prehistoric World — especially his Earth Memories. Wang Wei — who now could barely control his [Existence] after entering the Soul Ancestor Realm — fought back and defended himself. In truth, everything else in his [Existence] could be affected, but not his Earth memories. The reason he was a cut above everyone else — even above most Dao Overlords — was that he had access to the knowledge of different civilizations. No matter what, he would not give up such an advantage.

The white light stopped, probably knowing it would be impossible to destroy this anomaly without killing the target. However, there were other anomalies in this place. Without wasting another second, it started to target the other traces, for example, traces of the Dark Truth, and more importantly, the existence of perfection.

Wang Wei’s expression turned grave as he realized his first Saint Foundation was being destroyed. He immediately tried to save it, but that would require him to divert attention from protecting his Earth memories — a conundrum that the white light took full advantage of. So, of the two choices, he selected the first. His Saint Foundation can be repaired, but losing his Earth memories would be an even greater blow.
