"Greed — the ultimate flaw of humanity," the Myriad Gourd Empress stated as she watched Madam Chu’s expedition die one by one. Their plan wasn’t even that clever. They just changed the landing destination of the expedition to the Sovereign & King World, and everything settled itself like a perfect game of chess. Most of the destiny of that Source World resided in the Karmic Positions, and more importantly, this is the origin of that arrogant man: the Twelve Firmament Heavenly Emperor. He not only left a means to protect his world, but his legacy. However, the test for that legacy is a nightmare. The Infinite Divine Court has ruled over this world for countless epochs, and numerous talents have tried to receive its inheritance, but no one has succeeded.
Some of the brightest minds of the Empire have tried — including direct descendants of Tribunal Lords and even royal descendants with the best bloodline — but no one has succeeded. At some point, people began to speculate that the Twelve Firmament Heavenly Emperor never intended to leave behind his inheritance; he most likely set up this trial as a manifestation of his arrogance. However, these rumors stopped when the Highest Sovereign said this test was passable, and that the Twelve Firmament Heavenly Emperor was just looking for someone particular to inherit his legacy.
"The flaw of humanity? Is there a race in all Heaven’s Myriad Realms that can escape the shackles of the Seven Emotions Six Desires?" the Nine Spirit Lion Saint sneered.
"Maybe, but we do not have as many emotions and desires as humans."
"And you’re proud of that?"
"Stinky lion, why do you insist on contradicting me today? Do you want to fight?"
"What do we do now? Do we just watch them all die?" The Heavenly Wolf Khan asked the others.
"Why not?" Star Manifestation replied.
"What if I was right and they were indeed here to seek help?"
"Haven’t you realized? It doesn’t matter," Star Manifestation sneered. "We just need a bit of time, and his Majesty can descend into this timeline. Once that happens, everything will be alright." Star Manifestation gazed in the distance. He had already handed over the Vessel Seed to Jiang Ye, and the final ritual had almost finished. Soon, they will regain everything they had lost.
"You guys never think long term," the Heavenly Wolf Khan sighed. "What is his Majesty’s purpose? Do you think the court alone can conquer the Primordial Timeline?"
"Why not?" the Myriad Gourd Empress replied, but everybody ignored him. No matter how they felt about Grand Dao and the Primordial Timeline, they knew its power; they knew the hidden trump cards Grand Dao held. No one can conquer the Primordial Timeline.
"Ultimately, the court must settle in the Primordial Timeline. But if we kill all these expeditioners, we will make enemies with Grand Dao and countless other factions."
"They attacked us and killed more than 99% of our people. We still don’t know Suiji’s situation, and you still want us to play friendly with them?" the Myriad Gourd Empress sneered.
"That’s how politics work," the Yin-Yang Origin Dragon added. "We must consider His Majesty’s [Transcendent Path]. And the greatest obstacle to this path is how the Primordial Being will receive us after we properly land. If they all despise us and insist on becoming an obstacle, then it will mean nothing even if we successfully establish ourselves there."
"Your argument is sound and all," Star Manifestation calmly stated. "However, have you ever asked yourself what his majesty would choose: his future path or the resentment of his subjects? How many people in this timeline died? Although they were only outer citizens of the court, they were still citizens."
"Your argument is not fair. As I said, I don’t think this new threat is connected to the expedition," the Heavenly Wolf Khan stated.
"And you’re trying to skip the question. It doesn’t matter whose allegiance Death Reverence belongs to. He is still a Primordial Being, and his actions have caused trillions upon trillions of deaths of our court’s citizens. When presented with the choice of his future path or appeasing the people, what will his majesty choose?" Star Manifestation reiterated.
"His majesty’s Path is the Sovereign Path, and the people are the core of the Sovereign Path," the Nine Spirit Lion Saint uttered.
The Heavenly Wolf Khan glanced at these people, secretly shaking his head. These people were both correct and wrong. The Sovereign Path is a significant portion of his majesty’s Path, but it’s not the only one. As such, when faced with such a decision, the Khan believes his majesty would make a choice that satisfied both paths.
"You guys should be worrying about something else," the Yin-Yang Origin Dragon stated. "Death Reverence’s plan revolved around the power of death. Before, he only killed regular and [Immortals], but now, a Saint — no, more than one Saint — is about to die. What will happen then?"
"It doesn’t matter," Star Manifestation replied. "We now have three priorities: regain control of the array, protect Jiang Ye, and search for Suiji. As long as these are accomplished, we will be the ones to survive this ordeal."
"Let’s just hope things go as planned," the Heavenly Wolf Khan sighed.
Black Tortoise Array, Commander Dan’s Headquarters:
The Tribunal Lords and Commander Dan just watched a Saint die of starvation. Food should not have been an issue for the group because one of the soldiers had the habit of collecting the corpses of Star Beasts, which were enormous creatures. However, as time passed, the people inside the trial became no different than mortals, meaning the energy inside the Star Beast corpse was too much for them to absorb. No, even worse, their teeth could not even bite or chew on the meat.
"Can you calculate whether he’s truly dead?" Trinity Venerable calmly asked.
"Let me try," the Karma Root Monarch nodded. Her pupils light up for a few seconds as she sees an invisible karma thread connected to the recently diseased Saint.
"At first, he had just returned to Limbo, but an unknown power squeezed his [Existence] into the purest power of death, truly killing him," she reported.
"In that case, we must save them," Trinity Venerable sighed. They could not allow all the expeditioners to die, and it’s not just because it would empower Death Reverence. Many of these Paragons and Saints have connections to powerful beings on the same level as them or maybe even more powerful. If these people learn that Trinity Venerable and the others’ decision led to the death of their loved ones, many of them would retaliate.
"But how?"
"I left a Void Breaking Talisman inside the Dragon-Phoenix Ring. I can activate it remotely and bring them back," the Trinity Venerable said. "The issue is the court and Death Reverence." It’s apparent to them now that the court doesn’t want to work with them, meaning they might even stop them from rescuing their people.
"You might as well not say anything," Karma Root Monarch rolled her eyes. Without these two obstacles, they could just rush over and forcefully take these people out, without the need for a Void Breaking Talisman.
"We can still fight the court if necessary," the Trinity Venerable stated. "But the issue is how to stop Death Reverence from intervening."
"Do you have a plan?" Karma Root asked.
Trinity Venerable did not immediately answer. Instead, he glanced at the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint. "We must scare them from acting."
"How do you expect —" the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint stopped himself, staring at the latter with intense eyes.
"That’s right. You must summon the [Sword-Saber Source Dao]."
"Has no one told you that being too clever can easily get you killed?" the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint stated.
"Calm down," the Karma Root Monarch immediately said after sensing true killing intent. However, her words had the opposite effect. Instead, it intensified the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint’s killing intent.
"Ye Weimin, don’t forget you signed a contract," Karma Root Monarch reminded. But once again, her words did not have the intended effect.
"You think too much of yourself," Trinity Venerable calmly stated. "Do you think you could walk in such a path without someone setting it up? Do you think you could get this far without someone protecting you? The eternal truth of this world is that everyone is a pawn of someone. What? Did you think you were special?"
His words silenced the room, leaving everybody with their own thoughts. The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint closed his eyes, his aura fluctuating lightly. It’s apparent that he was trying to regain his bearings, and the process was not easy.
"The Sword–Saber Dao Source is real?" the Erudite Duchess thought. She had heard of this power, said to be the reason why Sword and Saber Dao were considered the pinnacle of Attack Dao throughout the universe. It is the source of why Sword Dao is so unique and why this particular Dao has stolen the destiny of all the other Weapon Daos. The duchess was surprised that the rumors were not only real, but someone with a direct connection to that power was right in front of her.
"I should have put two and two together after Yang Kai was mentioned," the Erudite Duchess thought.
