Chapter 1892: The Last Struggle

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Wang Wei and Avatar A waited for a while, but nothing occurred, until finally someone from the Infinite Divine Court modified some of the runes on the spear based on the principles of Yin-Yang and the data Wang Wei had handed over. The results were subpar, to say the least.

"Why isn't the expedition doing anything?" Wang Wei was puzzled. After sending the information, he had thought they would have been the most useful because of their understanding of the Hong Protective System.

"Look — they are finally moving," Avatar A suddenly said. A chain of runes suddenly wrapped around the Piercing Heaven Spear, imbuing it with a unique power: [Formation Breaking], a common tactic used against arrays. And as Wang Wei expected, the runes were designed specifically to deal with the Hong Protective System. Once everything was set, everybody waited with bated breath for the result.

Crack! A tiny crack appeared on the Death Seal. Hope was alive. The hope of escaping this hellhole, the hope of regaining eternal life, the hope of continuing to walk the Path of the Dao. All his eyes focused on that crack while he also paid attention to the enemy's movements.

"Maybe, this will —" Avatar A suddenly smiled before exhaling. It had healed itself. Less than ten seconds after the crack appeared, it had healed itself.

"Don't tell me this thing also has self-improvement capabilities?" Wang Wei frowned, still remaining calm. He soon received a communication summons from the other factions, and they coordinated another attempt. Now was not the time to despair, and everybody knew this. Therefore, they proceeded with the next attempt: forcing their array to output even more power, which will, in turn, enhance the boost provided to the spear. Unfortunately, there wasn't even a scratch this time around.

"Is this it?" was a thought that popped into many people's heads, but as Saints, they could not give up yet — especially since this might be their last chance. The Infinite Divine Court provided the next suggestion: sacrifice the arrays — and effectively destroy them — to boost the Piercing Heaven Spear. The expeditioners entertained the idea for a moment, but Wang Wei vehemently rejected it. Of all the people in this cooperation, he is the one who will become the most vulnerable without an array protecting him.

A small debate ensued, and after seeing how adamant Wang Wei was, the Infinite Divine Court relented — at least, they no longer asked for others to do the same. But for them, there was no longer any hesitation. Under everyone's gaze, the Reverse Black Stone Array — which had been the symbol of this timeline for eons — collapsed in on itself, transforming into the purest form of energy to power the spear.

Wang Wei and Avatar A calmly watched the process, and the latter suddenly asked, "I wonder what happened to the mortals? Do you think they transferred them to another place, or did they finally show their hypocritical nature and sacrifice them?"

"I don't know," Wang Wei replied. "And right now, I couldn't care less."

"Fair."

Their eyes focused on the Timeline Seal, waiting for any sign of a reaction. However, the lack of movement proved that what the spear requires is not pure brute force — at least not the level the three factions can muster — but a subtle approach.

"What now?" Avatar A asked.

"Send news that we will add the [Power of Nothingness]. Let's see if that works. Ask everybody else to provide support," Wang Wei suggested.

Soon after his order, the Lesser Heaven and Earth Origin Cycle array vibrated, then released a semi-transparent ring condensed from the [Power of Nothingness]. The remaining arrays worked in tandem to ensure the ring was completed and stabilized. Then, once it was securely positioned around the spear, the ring collapsed into a new rune.

Crack!

For the second time, another crack appeared on the seal. But no one dares celebrate or hope. Instead, they waited and observed, and only after seeing the permanent cracks did they allow themselves to dream once again — to hope. Although it was a small crack, it was still a hope for many people. Unfortunately, the joy only lasted 60 seconds — a full minute. Just as Wang Wei feared, the sealing array had its own self-improvement system. After realizing the threat posed by this new power, the seal analyzed it and developed a countermeasure.

The Beyonder has been traveling throughout Hongmeng for Heaven knows how long. In his journey, he has encountered too many unique powers, some so unique that they make the [Power of Nothingness] look like a joke. As the origin of all concepts, [Hongmeng] holds too many wonders.

"I'm afraid this is the end of the line for this plan," Avatar A sighed.

"What is Trinity Venerable and the others doing? They should have offered some decent suggestions or tried something," Wang Wei frowned.

"At this point, does it ma —Hmm? Someone requested an emergency communication.

"Who is it?"

"It's the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint," Avatar A explained.

"What does he want?"

"Let's find out."

A screen materialized before him, revealing the Sword Saint.

"What can I do for you?" Now was not the time for small talk, so Avatar was very direct.

"I want to stay in your array," Primordial Heaven Sword Saint replied, which immediately made Avatar A frown.

"Why?"

"I can't stay in my current location anymore."

"I'm going to need more information than that."

"...Trinity Venerable is pressuring me to use my [Sword-Saber Dao Source]. He even wants me to damage it just to power that stupid spear, and I refuse."

"No wonder they were so useless. They were fighting among themselves," Wang Wei thought.

"Well, it's not a bad idea," Avatar A stated.

"For you, maybe, but I will be screwed."

"True."

"And I was against this plan from the beginning," Primordial Heaven Sword Saint continued. "Everybody wants to open this timeline, but what then? Who would come to rescue us? It will be fine if it's Grand Dao or someone from our timeline, but what if it's the Highest Sovereign waiting for us? How will he treat us after what we've done to his people?"

"Everybody understands the risk, but no matter how it is, it will be better than the current situation."

"That may be so, but I prefer to rely on myself," the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint shook his head. "Anyway, what do you think of my request?"

"I'll be honest with you, I do not trust you enough to allow such a request," Avatar A stated. The easiest way to destroy his array is from the inside. It's one thing to allow the duchess access since they've built a solid foundation of trust and Wang Wei knows and understands her personality, but the same cannot be said for this Sword Saint.

"You don't need to invite me in. Just give me some basic authority, and I will create a sub-array as my residence."

"Accept his offer," Wang Wei suddenly transmitted.

"What are you thinking?" Avatar A asked, and Wang Wei explained his idea. Then, without wasting a moment, the avatar replied:

"I can accept your offer, but there is one condition."

"I expect as much, but don't go too far. At worst, I'll wander alone in the universe, relying on my sword to survive."

"Hmm, this Primordial Heaven Sword Saint doesn't seem too worried about his lifespan," Avatar A thought. "Well, now that I think about it, his [Sword-Saber Dao Source] is similar to a Dao Quintessence Prototype, so he can probably use a similar plan as ours to extend his lifespan."

"I will design an array for you to use, but you must use your [Sword-Saber Dao Source]."

"I —"

"Hear me out first. I'm not asking you to sacrifice it, but to use it as the core of the array to strengthen both your sub-array and the main array. Safety is our priority, right? So, let's use the best available resources."

"In that case, that's fine by me. However, I also have a request. Could you add a [Sword Nourishing] aspect to the array?"

"Provide the resources, and I'll add whatever you desire," Avatar A replied. "However, we must move swiftly. Time is of the essence."

"Fine by me."

Avatar A, Ai, and even the Erudite Duchess moved swiftly. While the whole world was still focused on the Piercing Heaven Spear, they began to establish a new sub-array called the Primordial Sword Dao Array. At first, people thought it was Wang Wei trying another means to bless the spear, but it was only after the Sword Saint left the Black Tortoise Array to reside in the new array that they realized a new alliance had been formed.

"What a powerful destiny," Death Reverence thought. If there was one thing that could threaten Future Reverence, it was that damn sword in Primordial Heaven's hand. Luckily, it was still broken, but Death Reverence has been keeping an eye on its presence. But now, the Sword Saint had somehow allied itself with Wang Wei, the greatest variable of this entire plan.

Without wasting another second, Death Reverence began chanting an incantation. The Time Seal released a potent power of death and corruption, injecting it directly into the Piercing Heaven Spear. The corruption spread at great speed, forcing Wang Wei to disconnect from the spear immediately.

The expeditioners followed up, and the Infinite Divine Court — now living in a created dimension — had no choice but to cut off the remaining source of power from the Reverse Black Stone Array. Everybody sighed: the Project Piercing Heaven was officially declared a failure. Death Reverence no longer gave anyone time to improve the spear or try another method. The servant of death had run out of patience; he no longer wished to slowly increase these people's despair. Instead, he cut off all paths except the one he had purposely left behind: the Longevity Realm.

"We are now in the final countdown," Avatar A sighed.

"Indeed."
