------Wang Wei smiled but did not answer. He wouldn't tell this man that the words he spoke originated from a little country on Earth called Haiti, known for being the first black country to free itself from slavery. One of the smaller contributions of Haiti to the world was the creation of the concept of [Zombies], inspired by slavery and the idea that servitude to a master was eternal — that even death could not bring freedom to the black body.
And in this universe, names and words contained power. Wang Wei could summon unimaginable powers by using their languages — just as Death Reverence did with Mortem, his master's language. The Fate Weaving was to ensure that this universe could accept the unknown power from the Prehistoric World/Earth and that it reached its maximum potency.
"It's starting," Wang Wei uttered.
Death Reverence sensed something and looked at the destroyed earth. A portal to an unknown dimension suddenly opened, releasing chains that rushed for him. Swish! The Death Knight hacked and slashed at the chains, but it was pointless; he felt they were the antithesis of his very existence. And such an assumption would be correct.
Death Reverence was a tomb that gained sentience; as such, Wang Wei chose his words carefully. The literal translation was: "Return to the earth," or "return to the soil," an act associated with death or burial. Wang Wei glanced at the spatial tear, trying to suck Death Reverence in it, and he was quite curious. Ever since he created this technique, he has wondered what lies on the other side, but every time he comes near, an immense sense of foreboding keeps him at bay.
The Death Knight struggled with all his might, but his aura kept weakening as more and more chains bound him. He pushed his secret technique beyond his limit, but that only delayed the inevitable. For a moment, it appeared as if this would be the end, but the red light beyond the black helmet suddenly intensified.
Using the last vestige of strength, Death Reverence suddenly pierced through his armor and ripped out his heart. Then, he chanted an incantation in another language. Since his opponent could use the power of words, so could he. Wang Wei tried to stop him, and he somewhat succeeded; Death Reverence failed to take full advantage of the [Fate Weaving].
Unfortunately, the power he summoned was more than enough. His heart suddenly turned into a spear, then flew into the sky, tearing apart the Universal Seal and swallowing the [River of Styx] projection. Then, the sentient spear rushed down toward the spatial tear. It broke apart the chains before flying inside.
Two unknown shrieks or roars emanate from beyond the spatial portal, but neither Wang Wei nor Death Reverence can hear them clearly. However, they suddenly and instinctively understood something: the owners of these voices were protecting them. Because if they heard clearly, both of them would instantly die — yes, including Death Reverence, who was a true Saint.
"So, my theory about [Origin Dispute] was correct," Wang Wei thought. Since he met with Hongjun and the other Primordial Saints from the Prehistoric World, he has spent many nights pondering and deducing information about [Hongmeng] and [True Transcendents]. And one of his theories was what he called [Origin Dispute] or [Dao Contention].
The idea is simple. Of all the infinite Earths in Hongmeng, there is bound to be a Haitian man who has transcended and claimed the power of Zombies — the power of death. But while Haitians indeed created the concept of zombies, which was later popularized by Hollywood movies, many cultures have a concept of the living dead; they may not have called it zombies until the term became popular, but it was still a fundamental aspect of their culture.
But, if the Haitian Transcendent meant another transcendent from an infant who also claimed they hold the origin of death, who is correct? What about other worlds or civilizations not associated with Earth that also have their own concept of the living dead and claim they are the source of death? Who is correct? The answer is no one.
The answer to this question is obvious: they will dispute it. And the clash between Wang Wei's spell and Death Reverence's was a perfect manifestation of this Origin Dispute. After discovering this truth, Wang Wei immediately made a crucial decision: the origin of Fate will belong to him.
"I was already on the path to acquiring it, but now, I'm more sure than ever," he thought. The condition he had asked of the creatures from the Prehistoric World in exchange for their freedom had already set him on this path, but now he was even more confident in his future.
Death Reverence exhaled deeply, a cold, chilly breath of death emitting from his armor's mouthpiece. His body trembled; he had come so close to death — true death. Whatever or whoever was on the other side of that portal was capable of eliminating his Lord's blessing and truly killing him. In his long life, this was the first time Death Reverence had come so close.
"Scared?" Wang Wei asked. "Well, it's understandable. Someone who thought they were incapable of dying coming so close — it's an understandable reaction. But, I must say: I'm disappointed."
"There is nothing wrong with fear," Death Reverence proclaimed as he slowly stood straight. His aura was drastically weaker than before, and the front plate of his armor was gone, revealing his black ribs, with no internal organs visible. However, his body had stopped shaking.
"It's a new emotion for me, but it's nothing I cannot conquer."
"Really? Despite the implication that in the grand scheme of things, your master is nothing special."
"My Lord is young, but with endless potential. One day, he'll stand on the same level as these beings, and even surpass them."
"Endless potential? If that were the case, he wouldn't need to go to such lengths to acquire my body."
"You are just the best option available to my Lord," Death Reverence calmly replied. "Even without you, as long as my Lord has the right environment, his ascension is only a matter of time."
Wang Wei chuckled, but his mind was occupied by something else. His left hand was regenerating too slowly. At this rate, he might need more than five minutes before it can return to normal. Just as he was about to continue the conversation to buy himself more time, Death Reverence acted. Chains of runes appeared on his fingertip, and he immediately began to engrave: [Order: All healing will be quadrupled.]
[Disorder: Only for those of the highest faith]
Death Reverence's chaotic aura immediately stopped, and his armor's breastplate began to regrow. The red in his eyes intensified rapidly as well. Meanwhile, Wang Wei's arm stopped growing, and the other smaller injuries he had acquired began to cause trouble.
Wang Wei frowned for a moment before sneering, "Faith? You may have faith in your lord, but I have the highest faith in myself; the faith that I will one day transcend the universe; the faith that I will one day achieve absolute freedom."
Boom!
The healing power provided by the Five Rings suddenly quadrupled, and Wang Wei's arm regenerated, along with all his minor injuries disappearing. In a matter of seconds, he returned to peak shape, ready to continue this fight until he was the last man standing.
"How narcissistic," Death Reverence sneered. It disgusts him that this man's pride and arrogance can compare to his faith in his Lord. However, this was just the beginning. Without wasting another second, Death Reverence continued bending the rules to his advantage. Wang Wei reacted swiftly, summoning the power of Heavenly Dao to stop him, but his efforts were futile.
"Why hasn't he been affected at all?" Wang Wei contemplated. He knew this was one of Death Reverence's strong points; he planned and trained for this occasion. But his tactic seemed utterly useless.
[Order: Intelligence and Wisdom are only applicable to one type of individual]
[Disorder: Only the undead.]
Wang Wei's complexion turned ugly. The way to break this spell is simple: turn himself into an undead. But, wouldn't that be the same as sending himself into his enemy's mouth? Even if he were to use Haitian Creole to turn himself into a [Zombie], it would still be an undead — the domain of the Beyonder.
"All laws are suppressed," Wang Wei yelled. His Fate Weaving was still standing, so he immediately used his [Emperor Word Technique] to suppress all laws of this world. And with his control over Heavenly Dao, such a tactic should have been enough to block this [Order-Disorder]. But it didn't. It merely slowed it down.
With Ai's aid, Wang Wei began to calculate countless responses to this technique: from using Transformation Dao to turn himself into the law itself to escape this technique to using a Domain with the Power of Nothingness to isolate himself from the rules — Wang Wei thought of everything. Unfortunately, his calculations revealed that only by eliminating Death Reverence or using a [Order-Disorder] can he counter this technique.
