Wang Wei opened his eyes with an elated nun smiling at him. He nodded to Maitreya before slowly standing; his clothes materialized around him during the process."I’m glad you’re alive — again."
"Indeed," Wang Wei nodded.
"Here are your things." Maitreya handed him a space ring, and Wang Wei calmly accepted them. He had her move his things out because he feared the explosion would have destroyed them, and Wang Wei was glad he did. Although he survived only a brief period in that explosion, he understood that power. The spatial protection he had around his treasury would not have survived.
"What’s —"
"No wonder you stopped nagging me about sending help," a deep, powerful voice suddenly echoed through the room. However, both Wang Wei and Maitreya remained calm since this was to be expected. None of them was stupid enough to think the homeowner wouldn’t detect another living being entering his territory.
"And you!" The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint said, with gritted teeth. He finally understood why this bastard said they would negotiate later.
"Lord Primordial Heaven, how have you been?" Wang Wei smiled.
"Tell me a reason why I shouldn’t kick you out?"
"Haven’t we worked perfectly fine before? Why are you being so hostile?"
"I —"
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Sword Saint stared at him, letting the sound of the attack answer for him.
"Well, he was bound to target you, too. My presence merely accelerated things."
The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint exhaled deeply. "Fine, you can stay here, but in return, you must agree to my previous condition."
"About that."
A terrifying killing intent condensed in the room.
"Calm down. If you want me to persuade Yan Hai to grant you a handicap, I’ll do my best. But honestly, the decision is still up to her. I can’t exactly force her, can I?"
The Sword Saint was quiet. This was the greatest flaw in their deal, and he was quite aware of this. "Won’t she repay a favor that saved your life?"
"Under normal circumstances, she would, but what you’re asking her is to put her future Dao Path on the line. No matter how close we are, it will never be enough for her to ruin her cultivation journey for me," Wang Wei shook his head.
"How confident are you in convincing her?"
"Well, knowing her personality, she would revel in the thought that a Saint Vessel needed a handicap to win against her; she would be overjoyed if she could still defeat you in such a situation," Wang Wei replied, and Maitreya nodded. Meanwhile, the only uncomfortable individual was the Sword Saint.
"Then —"
"While she would gladly accept such a fight, the others — her brothers — they wouldn’t let her — unless there was something else to gain."
"You want to bargain?" The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint stared at him.
"I’ll be honest: the best I can do is to relay this deal and advocate for you. And if you want to increase my odds of convincing her, you need to prepare to pay."
"And what exactly do you want to add to this wager?"
"I don’t know. You’ll have to wait until you meet with Yan Hai," Wang Wei shook his head.
"Fine," the Primordian Heaven Lord said after exhaling deeply. Others might not care about the Grand Dao Source Positions, but for him, he needed both the Saber and Sword Positions to have a chance at ascending to a higher realm. "Let’s sign the contract. Maitreya can be the witness."
Wang Wei reached out for the contract and swiftly analyzed it. The Sword Saint was meticulous, adding as many clauses as possible stating that Wang Wei must do his best to convince Yan Hai. The bastard even added that Maitreya would also be punished if Wang Wei didn’t follow the contract. In the end, after adding the clause that failure was a possibility, Wang Wei signed the treaty. Everyone then moved to the central hub of the array to work together on the current threat.
"What exactly is your plan?" the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint asked.
"Wait."
"Wait? Right, the duchess — what is she doing?"
Wang Wei glanced at him but did not say anything. Instead, he secretly connected to Ai to understand what was going on.
Primordial Chaos:
Future Reverence was frustrated beyond words. Whoever was leading the effort to stop him from destroying this timeline and converting it into World Source was ruthless, fast, and highly efficient. It felt like dealing with a machine designed for this task.
"There is no way Wang Wei is this capable, right? Now that I think about it, his ability to use [Authority] without his soul and [Existence] collapsing is an anomaly. Could it be the duchess? Did he hand the [Authority] to her? But, even she shouldn’t be this fast and efficient."
The situation was not ideal. Future Reverence had tried copying Wang Wei and Death Reverence’s past actions by sacrificing one of the grand constructs to enhance his power and break through this array. Unfortunately, the other [Authority] holders fought him and even successfully stopped his action.
Future Reverence frowned. A feeling in the back of his mind kept reminding him that he needed to hurry. He did not know its exact source, but as a powerful cultivator, it was wise to follow his instincts. However, the issue now was what to do? Death Reverence used to be the thinker, and he was supposed to be the muscle, which is why he was grossly underprepared for the situation at hand. And while he could start creating powerful trump cards, by the time they were completed and became viable options, it would be too late.
While pondering his next step, Future Reverence suddenly realized something: these people were using arrays to protect themselves. Why couldn’t he do the same? The world was full of death energy, and even the hidden rules had been corrupted by it, meaning the primary materials for an array already existed. And although Future Reverence did not cultivate Array Dao and did not have a supplementary Dao — such as rune or knowledge — to help with the setup, he should still be able to create a semi-decent second-step array.
Without wasting another second, Future Reverence created a few avatars and tasked them with condensing this array. Meanwhile, the main body continued its bombardment of the Primordial Sword Dao Array. More than five yuan epochs soon passed, and the True Death Array was on the verge of completion.
"Are you sure she’s coming?" the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint asked.
"She is," Wang Wei calmly replied.
"What confidence do you have that she won’t run away? Did you sign a binding contract? A powerful oath?" he continued. Based on what Wang Wei said in the last meeting when he was the commander, it wasn’t hard for the Sword Saint to deduce his plan: find a way to push the duchess’ cultivation realm to the False Grand Dao Saint state, and then, come and deal with the current threat. However, so much time has passed, and there haven’t been any signs or news.
"Nothing, but I know she’ll come," Wang Wei said. If there were one lesson he had learned from this experience — primarily from the Infinite Divine Court and the Highest Sovereign — it would be to trust his people. And if he cannot trust them, don’t employ them in the first place.
"I appreciate your faith, but I need something more. Did you —"
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint frowned. He checked the situation of the array, and his mood instantly worsened. At this rate, it won’t take the enemy long before they break through — unless he uses the backup energy reserve. However, that reserve exists only to help nourish and repair the [Sword-Saber Dao Source].
"How long do we have?" Wang Wei asked.
"Three days."
"That’s not much," Maitreya sighed. "Could we do something?"
"His array is quite basic, with a few easily noticeable flaws. If someone is willing to try, we could destroy it," Wang Wei said, his eyes fixed on the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint.
"I’m not putting myself in any danger," the Sword Saint refused. He already had an escape plan: by fusing with the sword and hiding in another dimension, he could enter a hibernation state that would be undetectable even by a weak Grand Dao Saint. However, this plan has a flaw: it takes too long to wake up. And if he’s injured before executing it, the time required to wake up will be even longer, and that is if he wakes up in the first place. The [Saver-Sword Source Dao] is still a foreign third-step artifact; if he’s not at his peak, the Sword Saint is not confident he can use it.
"In that case, the only thing left is to fight," Wang Wei replied calmly.
"Let me do it. Your foundation isn’t completely healed yet, so I’m the better option," Maitreya suggested.
"No need. This is, after all, my —" Wang Wei stopped himself as he, along with everybody else, suddenly sensed something. A smile appeared on the corner of his mouth. "Finally," he muttered.
