Bang!!!

Talia was quick to realize that both Grayson and Cassian had been eliminated, which meant the next target for the War God Mage Academy remaining mages would be her, immediately she floated backward, trying to retreat toward Serena Marq’s position.

But at that moment, Endrick turned to face her with a smile.

Swoosh!

A green flash cut through the air, in that same split second she decided to retreat, though the attack had come quite unexpectedly; however she had been able to react on instinct and shifted aside, just enough for a bolt from Endrick’s crossbow to whistle past her face.

“Hey!, It’s no longer fun if you don’t chase me, you know, the plan was always for you to chase me around, that way I get to keep you distracted so you couldn’t support your teammates, because it the captain has deemed you a problem when your skills are linked with your teammates own... but alone, you’re just a bigger prey that can be hunted.” Endrick explained, with his words stunning Talia Frost further.

Ever since their fight began, Endrick had acted like a scaredy-cat. He’d done nothing but run, never even turning back to take a shot, and now that she thought about it, she realized she’d fumbled—badly.

He’d been slipping through every corner of the battlefield, always staying out of the main clashes, dragging her along and keeping her occupied the whole time.

And Endrick didn’t look like the kind of marksman who was too timid to fire even once, with what he said the truth hit her clearly now, She’d been played.

“It seems your team did their research, but just so you know—I’ll make sure to eliminate you before I go down to your two friends." Talia said, her eyes narrowing, as she had already noticed both Pale and Knight moving in and boxing her in some kind of a triangle lock.

“Them?” Endrick chuckled.

“Oh no, no—they’re not here to help me, they’re here to watch, because they couldn’t get too close to the captain; as he’s excited, and the shockwaves from his attacks are about to get wild, so I’m a better option.”

He slid his left hand under the stock of his massive crossbow and pushed it back into its position behind him, right now he was wearing a sly smile as he stared her down.

“So let’s do this again, shall we? Round two.”

Seeing him act so confident annoyed her, as she snapped her left hand forward, and three rune-blades tore through the air toward Endrick’s position.

This time, he didn’t dash, evade, or run, he sprang upward, and before his boots could even touch the ground again, a massive root burst from beneath him, thrusting him into the air.

He bent along the rising wood in a low, skating-like stance, riding the lift as thorny roots erupted from the earth below.

It didn’t change Talia’s mind, that he was now serious about coming for her, as she has always felt there was no reason to hold back on her end.

She pushed more mana she directed into her discs, as the circular rune-disks, with blades jutting out from their edges—spun faster, heavier, and shot toward him like saws.

But before they could close the distance, Endrick drove both hands forward and clapped them together.

In the next instant, the thick branches of the thorn-root carrying him snapped free, as if yanked by an unseen force, and hurled themselves into the air to intercept her rune-disks.

Boom!

A loud explosion erupted where the Qi reinforced wooden stakes and rune-blades collided.

[> Mid Tier Spell - Serpent Vine Spear <]

From behind the blast, she heard Endrick’s voice, already casting, even without seeing what he was doing, she refused to take the risk as she too got busy, four fresh rune-disks were summoned from her space ring into her hands.

She then proceeded to flood them with her mana before throwing them forward.

[> Mid Tier Spell - Frostveil Barrier <]

They swirled, snapped into place, and locked together in front of her like pieces of a larger mechanism, as a crisp click rang out as the runes along their surfaces flared icy blue after each part connected, with mist spilling outward while frost particles were drawn from the air to complete the spell that she had casted.

As of that moment, the serpent whose massive body was woven from vines burst out of the explosion and slammed its head into her barrier.

Luckily, she had cast the defense early; as a freezing shield materialized from the disc-array floating in front of her.

The vine-serpent smashed again, its wooden skull crashing against the ice shield—beautiful, runic symbols glowing across its surface.

Though the Frostveil Barrier was strong, but even Talia knew it wouldn’t survive repeated impacts.

So she shifted her footing on the rune-discs beneath her legs and tried to float away to a different angle entirely—

—but as she turned, three arrows curved through the air, homing straight for her.

Immediately a tattoo flashed across her skin. In a heartbeat, a curved blade formed in her hand.

Tink! Tink! Tink!

Three clean slashes—she deflected all three arrows. Still, every deflection sent a jolt up her arms, as these weren’t ordinary arrows; they were heavy, and packed with far more power than normal shots.

And in focusing on the arrows, she missed one crucial detail: each deflection pushed her backward... and backward... and backward.

The moment she finished the last parry, her eyes widened, the wooden serpent had finally broken through the Frostveil Barrier, and it struck like a living coil, whipping around her waist and shoulders, then tightening with brutal force.

Vines cinched down until her breath started to vanish, her struggling growing weaker by the second.

After about twenty seconds, her resistance collapsed, as her body went limp, and she slipped into unconsciousness, with the rune-discs under her feet losing their support from her they went off and dropped to the ground.

Endrick, who was still perched atop the thorn-root, walked forward and calmly commanded the serpent to carry her out of the arena, an automatic disqualification.

Naturally, he could have flung her out the way Cassian had done to Sophia... or ordered the serpent to release her mid-air and let her crash into the ring in a burst of violent aftershock sparks that was going on below.

Because no matter what happened next, she was already disqualified the moment she fell unconscious, but Endrick didn’t take advantage of that.

Instead, he acted like a gentleman, making sure she was carried off the stage without any extra fuss or rough handling...

“What are you still doing up there, staring at us?, Come down.” Arthur called out to Endrick who is still perched in the air on the thick root like he was enjoying the view.
