Immediately the judge called for the start of the battle, the mages of the School of Silent Night wasted no time, as they surged forward, bearing down on the War God Mage Academy team like a dark tide.Shin Jae-Hyun and Kenta were the first to move, Kenta gripped his tonfa, its usual blunt striking ends were replaced with razor-sharp blades that gave the weapon a vicious, gleaming edge.
Beside him, Shin dashed forward, with a kunai clenched in his right hand and a coiled wired hook wrapped around his left forearm.
“That one’s mine,” Pale declared, charging forward away from the whole team and straight for Kenta.
Behind him, Lucas silently raised a hand and drew his greatsword, though he said nothing; however, his stance and the place he was facing made it clear that he had chosen Shin as his target.
The moment the two sides were about to collide, the crowd erupted into wild cheers, anticipation electric in the air.
The School of Silent Night liked to fight as a unit, and they rarely engaged alone unless forced to, and it was clear to them now that is what the war god team was trying to accomplish.
From Shin’s left hand, two smoke bombs materialized, he hurled them directly at Lucas.
Agnes had already warned them about the smoke’s effects and the importance of avoiding it at all costs, recognizing the threat, Lucas shifted the angle of his blade and swung in a wide arc, swatting the bombs away as if batting a ball.
He had intended to redirect them back toward Shin, but things didn’t go as planned, as the flat of his sword struck the small orbs, they detonated instantly.
There was no shrapnel or explosive force, no visible injury—but thick, choking smoke billowed outward in an instant, completely engulfing Lucas.
The dark mist pressed down on him, heavily suppressing his mental powers and clouding his senses while he remained within its range.
On the other side, Pale had finally closed the distance with Kenta, who thrust his left hand forward in what looked like a simple jab, but the bladed edge of Kenta’s tonfa came with it, slashing straight for Pale’s throat.
Pale twisted at the last instant, letting the blade graze past, and slicing a thin line across his neck but missing anything vital.
As Kenta’s arm extended past him, Pale snapped his right hand up and seized Kenta’s wrist in a vice grip.
[> Low Tier Spell – Chill Touch <]
Pale cast the spell instantly, as his right hand turned ghostly white, frost spreading rapidly up Kenta’s sleeve and into his clothes, cold bit deep, numbing his muscle and slowing his blood flow.
Kenta immediately reacted without hesitation, as he used his free right hand by snapping upward in a brutal uppercut aimed at Pale’s chin.
Pale swiftly released the grip when he saw that move and shoved off the ground just in time, leaping backward, causing the uppercut to miss by inches.
Though Kenta had lost the initial exchange, but he wasn’t about to let the small advantage he had gotten slip away, as he pressed forward aggressively.
A palm-sized patch of ice had already formed on Kenta’s left hand. Beneath his feet, frost crept outward across the arena floor, not fully spread yet, but spreading fast, and Pale was the source of it.
Pale also now wields two short ice blades in reverse grip, their edges glinting with dangerous light as if they were sharper than even steel, his stance was low and coiled, ready to meet the next charge.
Across the field away from them, Lucas burst out of the dissipating smoke, as Beatrice immediately retreated several steps back, dragging her massive coffin before her with her left hand, while also keeping it positioned as a shield.
On the opposite flank, Endrick and Katie moved without hesitation, targeting Liang Xuefeng and Ayame Ren respectively.
Lucas swung his greatsword in wide, heavy arcs, lightning crackled along the blade in thin, electric veins, each strike carrying terrifying momentum.
Shin met every blow with only his small wind kunai, deflecting the massive swings with precise, almost impossible parries.
Every block forced Shin backward a step or two, the sheer power behind Lucas’s attacks was no joke, yet Shin endured with the pain in his wrist, and then his left wrist finally twitched.
As the wired hook shot out like a striking snake, aimed straight for Lucas’s right leg.
The wired hook coiled tightly around Lucas’s leg before he could bring his greatsword down to sever it, Shin yanked hard, dragging Lucas off balance and forcing his legs apart.
Lucas crashed to the ground, knees spread wide, with Shin’s first objective complete, he closed the distance in an instant, thrusting his wind kunai straight toward Lucas’s throat.
Lucas raised his left hand at the last possible moment, allowing the kunai to pierce clean through his palm, to the other side.
“Hngh!” Pain flared through his hand, but Lucas gritted his teeth, as he knew Shin’s speed outmatched his own, he felt this was his only chance to trap him, without hesitation, Lucas clamped his fingers down around Shin’s wrist, locking him in place.
Shin twisted, trying to pull free, but the grip was iron tight, for the first time, Shin was forced to look directly into Lucas’s face.
And all he could see was a wild, feral grin spread across it, if Alec had seen that expression, he would have recognized it instantly, and smiled in approval.
This was berserk-mode Lucas, the one who lived for mad, unrestrained battle.
“My turn.”
Lucas said as surged upward, his right hand snapping around Shin’s neck, as he lifted him high, then slammed him down hard onto the black stone arena floor.
Shin’s mouth flew open as the impact drove the air from his lungs in a violent rush, but Lucas wasn’t finished, as he raised his legs and stomped downward—once, twice, again, each strike hammering into Shin’s chest with brutal force.
Lightning energy crackled along Lucas’s boots, every stomp sent electric arcs spreading through Shin’s body, numbing his muscle and nerve alike.
At first, the numbness was bearable, and Shin could still resist it, But the strikes kept coming, overlapping, stacking.
And each new jolt deepened the paralysis until his limbs refused to obey.
Shin tried to lift a hand, to block, to fight back, but he got nothing, no response from his hands, his arms just lay limp at his sides, heavy and useless, while Lucas loomed above him, eyes burning with savage delight.
Seeing Shin’s limp, numbed form, Lucas grabbed a fistful of his hair and swung with brutal force, as Shin’s body arced through the air before crashing out of bounds, tumbling across the arena floor outside the marked lines.
The entire crowd fell silent.
The War God Mage Academy team which everyone had already written off, and believed would suffer a crushing defeat had now drawn first blood,
Lucas’s decisive throw acted like a spark, and as if a fierce fire ignited in his teammates. Pale, Endrick, and Katie, surged forward with renewed savagery, clashing against their opponents with ferocious intensity.
