“We’re finally back to square one with the War God Mage Academy te—” Kenta was still speaking when he turned toward the battle ring all he met with was the sudden appearance of Lucas Fist heading for his face.Immediately, in a fast fashion he formed a hand seal to cast a spell, while pushing off the ground and moving backwards to gain ground.
[> Mid Shinobi Skill – Fading Afterimage. <]
The moment he activated this spell, multiple versions of him appeared, all flickering like unstable reflections which made it hard to figure out which was his main body as there was nothing that stood out, since all the bodies he created were all glowing in weird glows.
At once, all these versions of Kenta all swung their wired hooks toward Lucas.
“Hmmm,” Lucas muttered in surprise as he realized the hooks had actually coiled around his outstretched right fist, from Agnes’ report, this mage supposedly uses mirage magic, meaning most of his attacks were usually more illusory than real.
That was why Lucas hadn’t reacted much when there was more than one of Kenta before him, but now he couldn’t help wondering whether he was trapped in an illusion or facing reality due to the pain he felt when the wired hook coiled around his hands, he just felt he had a very high mental will and these should have not gotten to him.
Still, he chose to press forward despite the pain, trusting only in his own strength, he stretched out his left hand behind him and unhooked the long staff strapped there.
At the same time, he tightened and twisted his right hand around the hooked wires, as the pain that shot through him increased more than double fold, it was sharp enough to make him feel like he might just lose his hand, but he didn’t care.
Instead, he pulled harder, using his superior strength to drag the mirage versions of Kenta toward him.
While this was happening, his greatsword, which had been lying on the ground nearby, levitated and rotated midair toward the outstretched staff he had outward, and the blade handle slid perfectly into the top shaft, as his Qi coated the weapon almost immediately this happened, triggering what looked like a reforging process.
Its shape shifted, locking firmly into place until a glaive formed in his grasp.
“Horizontal Sweep,” Lucas said as he swung the blade toward the incoming mirages before him.
The Qi-coated glaive which was crackling faintly with sparks of lightning, already emitted a thunderous roar before it even connected, this caused Kenta who had been hiding among the mirage bodies, to finally give up his concealment as he was scared of letting that glaive hit him in consideration of the power of wild Qi he could feel even before the glaive arrived,
In a rush he released his hold over the wired hook, while retreating backward.
“Got you!” Lucas said as the pain he was feeling in his hands suddenly vanished the moment the real Kenta moved away, that didn’t stop him though as he made sure to complete his swing, causing the mirage versions of Kenta before him to instantly disappear.
With a smooth motion, he shifted the glaive from his left hand to his right, still maintaining a firm two-handed grip.
In a lightning-fast move, he thrust forward as if piercing, though Kenta saw the attack coming, but he was barely able to react before he realized the glaive was already in front of him, it had traveled over at a speed even he was unused to.
But he still twisted his body in an unconventional way, doing everything possible to avoid a fatal injury, as a loud bang sounded out even without hitting anything, the lightning coursing around Lucas not only amplified his attack power and added a numbing effect to his strikes, but it also seemed to significantly boost his attacking speed.
At this moment, even Kenta was clearly at the fact that he was at another disadvantage again, with his weapon being much shorter, and Lucas’ previous strike had already forced him back while perfectly setting up a follow-up attack motion, he started to think wide trying to find a loop for himself from his current situation.
But Lucas just continued with his attack motion as he sharply withdrew the glaive, twirling it once in his right hand before raising it high overhead.
Then he brought it down in a heavy chop, in a diagonal strike from right to left, aiming for the lower rib region; the air above the weapon churned violently as the blade descended.
Bang!
The glaive finally landed, though Kenta hastily cast another mirage spell all in a bid to reinforce his defense, and he also tried to outpace the strike by moving toward Lucas, hoping to slip past the descending blow by bending.
But he had overestimated himself, because the glaive speed increased again and the moment the glaive connected, every layer of defense he was so proud of shattered instantly.
He instantly felt his insides twist painfully as he threw his hands up in a desperate guard, his tonfa baton acting as the last line of defense, even then, his protective coatings cracked apart on impact.
It didn’t help — internal injuries, check; overwhelming Qi energy, check; a deafening shockwave, check.
Kenta watched helplessly as his body was flung through the air from sheer strength, the crowd screamed when they saw him hurtling toward the stands, but just before he could crash into the spectators, his body suddenly halted.
A transparent light shield flickered into existence where he would have landed, and he slid down it at considerable speed, before he even hit the ground, he had lost consciousness.
“Lucas!!!”
At that moment, the fanatic supporters of the War God Mage Academy finally found their voices again as they cheered Lucas name, though they still didn’t feel like victory was guaranteed, especially with Alec, their Golem Prince, absent from the arena, but they began to feel far better than at the start of the battle, when everything had seemed bleak.

Not far away, the battle between Katie and Ayame finally concluded, with Katie emerging victorious.
Initially, Ayame’s fan-blade shinobi arts gave her the upper hand, allowing her to dominate Katie for a while, with her weapon and wind manipulation.
However, Katie endured every hit and waited patiently, and once she sensed Ayame’s mana was running low, she summoned her spirit equipment set.
With it, she transformed into a more empowered version of herself, the set had clearly been crafted with her unique abilities in mind, serving to amplify her strengths.
Although it wasn’t forged by one of the elite masters Alec’s system could supposedly summon and conjure using his system points, whoever created Katie’s gear was undeniably a top-tier forger when it came to physical aspect sets.
With the boost from the equipment, Katie seized the advantage, seamlessly switching between her Super strength and Super speed abilities whenever it suited her.
Her fists, coated in flaming aura, eventually overpowered Ayame in a brutal barrage of punches.
On Endrick’s side, things hadn’t gone as smoothly as hoped, both he and Liang ended up taking each other out of the fight.
Well, in fact, many of the top mages watching from their VIP booths hadn’t expected the outcome to turn out this way, because from the start Liang’s ice elemental control made him, in some sense, a natural counter to Endrick’s element.
