Brandon was still seated on his throne when he began receiving system notifications warning him of foreign energies entering the range of his territory and advising him to stay alert in case they had malicious intent towards him. However, when he tried to stand, he realized he couldn’t move even an inch. The next second, he opened the Lord Chat, however he wasn’t planning on sending a message to the regional lords group or the main kingdom lords chat group that housed all regions, he just went straight to the main chat for the lords under Alec.
Since he was now under Alec, he and the other lords had been placed in a private chat where they could contact and speak with one another freely.
[Brandon:] I think the orcs the old man warned us about have started making their move. I just got a system notification saying there are foreign energies approaching and I can’t even stand to do a thing.
[Alec:] Give me a couple more seconds. I’m sending over some golems to deal with the problem.
[Arthur:] I can’t stand too.
Brandon stared at Alec’s message again. ‘Seconds?’ he thought. But he had no choice except to believe it, because he couldn’t even rise from his seat.
All he could do was use his mind to send messages, after Alec’s earlier instructions, he had been one of the few who rushed back to his own land to explain things.
The truth was, he barely knew anything about ruling, and after he had first received information from his city heart earlier, he had only thought of one thing, and that was leaving quickly again and going straight to Alec’s city.
He hadn’t even stayed long enough to address the people who had come to speak with him as representatives of the citizens now under his rule, he simply wanted to get it over with and leave the rest for Alec to deal with as soon as possible.
What truly interested him was whether this place, which had been made look so glorified and spoken of with such awe, would actually help them break into the high ranks more easily, because all he had seen since arriving was hunger and poverty.
However, after going to see Alec and realizing that he actually seemed to know what he was doing, Brandon calmed down, because he was one of the few who had developed this blind faith that as long as Alec was around, nothing was bound to go wrong.
So this time, when he returned, he used his mana to augment his voice and addressed the inhabitants of his own settlement.
Before he arrived, some had already convinced themselves that the falling stone walls were some kind of demonic power sent to trap them for evil purposes.
They were even a few who had started spreading words like, ‘the new lord has already abandoned us, so why should we stay? We should climb the walls and escape while we still can.’
But there were also a few who believed it had something to do with the new city lord, so when they saw Brandon levitating in midair, they couldn’t help but stop where they were and listen.
After a few minutes, he was finally able to explain everything clearly to the people of the city, he told them that he would not be abandoning them.
Instead, he had gone to pledge their city as a subordinate city under his elder brother, who was far stronger than him, and that his elder brother, who is now the main city lord, was also the one responsible for the stone gates that had surrounded them for their own protection.
He even went into detail about how the stone walls had been created to help block future attacks from the orcs once they eventually decided to push into human territory.
With that explanation, not only did he restore some peace and calm to the distressed citizens after they learned the walls had been created to protect them, but he also managed to steady the growing panic in the city.
But it hadn’t even been long since he assured them they would be safe under him, that the danger indeed came knocking.
Atop the city walls, some of the inhabitants, especially the men who had once acted as makeshift guards for the settlement before their new lord arrived with these improvements, had climbed up to patrol, smiles still resting on their faces.
However, at that very moment, they noticed something far in the distance—rising dust.
The kind of dust that could only mean one thing, a large force was riding straight toward their city.
The moment they saw that, they all rushed down in alarm, only to meet the elders already shouting at them to hurry to the castle and inform the mayor of the city about the attack so he could issue orders on what they should do next.
_ _
Three Tier 7 High Orc generals had been assigned the mission of invading and killing all the newly appointed human lords in the cities surrounding the territory currently under Orc control.
Because clearly, the Orcs still wanted all of those cities and the only reason they had not moved to capture it was because the orc lord believes the time had not yet come and he was short of man power to manage the cities and he didn’t want a city where there is not enough Orcs managing it or they would have a riot on their hands when the humans rebelled.
Still, even though the Orcs did not yet have enough manpower to control all those cities, they would never allow a human lord to preside over them in peace.
The Orc king was fully aware of what would happen if he left the human territories alone and allowed them to grow. In his eyes, if he did that, then by the time the moment came to seize those cities, he might end up losing a portion of his Orc soldiers, and that was something he would never allow.
That was why he was sending a force now: to annihilate the new human lords before they had any chance to grow the city forces.
Each of those High Orc generals was supposed to command a hundred Orc warriors. However, because of the war, not all their units were complete.
Two were still at full strength, while one had already lost some numbers after suffering casualties on the front lines of the Orcs’ recent campaigns.
Even so, they believed they would be able to deal with the new lords without any real problem, because the average mages assigned lands were usually only in the Tier 6 or Tier 7 mage realm at the start, and those sent to the Wilderness Region were said to be the worst of the worst in talent rating.
That was also one of the main reasons the Orcs had been able to thrive in human territory for so long.
The weak human lords placed there in the past had failed to drive them out, allowing them to grow until their current lord finally led a charge, slaughtered many human lords of that era, and settled in the city he intended to use as the hallmark of his conquest over the entire human Wilderness Region.
