Mid Sector 99, Planet NecropolisThe meeting and command hall, where Marshal Aro held all his internal gatherings. This enormous chamber was always crowded with planetary generals, intelligence officers, administrators, and military officials seeking advice, permissions, or direct orders. Tactical projections continuously floated above the gigantic circular table at the center of the hall, while streams of reports moved endlessly between the command stations surrounding it. The Marshal spent most of his time here whenever he was not inside one of the Supremacy Note-4 vessels, personally leading one of his invasions across the battlefields of the Mid Sector.
Now, however, the Marshal had departed to fight in neighboring Sector 98. Negative karma had accumulated heavily upon him after years of slaughter and conquest, and he was currently in a recovery phase, isolated from the outside world and unaware of anything happening beyond his chambers.
But this hall had not become empty.
Naturally, there was someone who took the Marshal's place to manage the affairs of the sector... someone who learned much from Aro, and taught him much as well! Someone who had witnessed the rise of the Third Army from its earliest fragile beginnings and remained one of the core pillars supporting the empire's military machine.
"Did Servon send anything yet?" Supreme General Haros spoke with restrained calm, though the tension hidden beneath his voice was difficult to conceal. Anyone observing him for a moment would immediately notice the stiffness in his posture and the faint unrest lingering within his eyes.
Haros was the youngest and smartest marshal within the Great Serpent Empire, and one of the earliest individuals to witness the establishment of the Third Army. He was also the one who taught Marshal Aro all his limited knowledge regarding interplanetary warfare at the beginning of the journey, allowing the Third Army to achieve a far stronger and more organized start than the others. While countless armies required decades of defeat and sacrifice to mature, the Third Army expanded with terrifying efficiency from the very beginning.
In the past, Haros would never have dared to sit while several Nexus States stood around him. Every one of them used to address him as Supreme Lord only a few centuries ago... yet now it had happened. Not only that, he even issued them orders without hesitation. Each one of them ruled a wing belonging to a great empire that he himself directed, yet they still gathered here awaiting his judgment before making major decisions.
"Supreme General Servon has not replied to our messages," one of the Nexus States spoke seriously, his expression darkening slightly. "Should we send a force to check on him?"
"...." Haros stared at the board before him for several moments, silently studying the countless shifting indicators spread across its surface. "We'll wait a little longer. If my fears are true and he was harmed in any way, what we send will not merely be a force to retrieve him... but our entire army."
Servon was the seventh prince of the Great Serpent Empire, Pythor's smartest follower, and at the time the highest-ranked individual among Helen's officers due to his wisdom, political cunning, and unmatched talent for choosing victorious battles before they even properly began. Many believed that if Servon desired it, he could have independently commanded one of the empire's primary warfronts long ago.
Servon had been left together with his three sorceress sisters to reorganize the Third Army within the Young Belt and rapidly annex planets to expand the Nihari Galaxy. He fulfilled his duty perfectly, exceeding nearly every expectation placed upon him. Entire planetary systems entered the empire's control without prolonged resistance under his leadership, and supply routes stabilized with shocking speed. He even continuously sent support to Aro in the Mid Sector without complaints despite the increasing pressure upon his own territories.
But after Aro's departure, he was summoned back to assume the role of assistant and secretary... Haros's former role.
Yet he did not remain long enough to enjoy his new position. Only a few months after beginning his service, the Millennial Empire of Eternal Chaos sent a messenger, saying they wished to negotiate.
And they added not a single word beyond that.
By that period, Marshal Aro was wreaking havoc throughout the Sorcerer Galaxy, leaving destroyed fleets and shattered strongholds behind him wherever he advanced, while the Vast Ice Empire publicly announced their submission as a wing under the Grave Empire after realizing resistance had become meaningless.
Thus, everyone assumed that the Millennial Empire of Eternal Chaos would declare surrender as well.
Therefore, Servon was sent alongside the three sorceresses to discuss the conditions...
That was six months ago.
Since that day, Servon had not left the throne hall after entering it, nor had he contacted them with either good news or bad. No transmission, no spiritual fluctuation, not even a single emergency signal had reached them. It was as though he had vanished completely after crossing the gates of that palace.
Months passed after that. Every force within the Grave Empire remained tense and prepared to move should Haros declare war upon the Empire of Eternal Chaos, or should confirmation arrive that something had happened to Servon. Fleets remained stationed near vital corridors, elite forces were held on standby without rotation, and countless commanders quietly began preparing for a sector-wide conflict.
At that point, a war would erupt that could overturn Mid Sector 99 entirely. No... it would engulf the entire sector itself.
A war between the Grave Empire and the Empire of Eternal Chaos would produce catastrophic consequences that nobody wished to witness. Entire civilizations would collapse beneath the collision of those two monstrous powers, trade routes would shatter, neutral factions would be dragged into the flames, and even neighboring sectors would inevitably suffer from the aftermath.
"...Remain in a state of readiness." Haros rubbed his forehead slowly, hesitant to make the great decision despite the pressure building around him from every direction. "I will contact the Shadow Swords once more to find a way to approach the throne hall and learn what is happening. Perhaps I'll personally speak with the First Sword Theo this time."
Then he sighed and gestured toward a certain person. "Now then, regarding your matter, you sh—"
Bang
A person rushed through the gate in panic and haste, nearly stumbling before regaining balance. "Sir, the Imperial Guards are withdrawing every Royal Soul Master from the planet!!"
"What?!" Haros jolted upright.
-----
Beside the palace gate—
Whoosh
A person wearing the distinctive robes of the Burton Family Soul Masters descended from the sky, his aura still fluctuating slightly from rapid travel, then stared suspiciously into the eyes of the person standing beside the gate. "What exactly is happening? Why weren't we informed beforehand that we would be evacuated so we could prepare?"
"An emergency situation. You'll understand on the other side, please proceed, sir!" Wade pointed toward the gate and spoke with refined words, yet his tone remained sharp and controlled, while his eyes carried a threatening edge that made it clear his patience was currently limited.
"..." The Soul Master found the attitude strange, especially considering who he was speaking to, but silently entered the gate anyway without pushing the matter further.
Around the massive palace gate, streams of light continuously flashed as one Royal Soul Master after another entered the portal under the supervision of the Imperial Guards. The atmosphere had become so tense that even the surrounding air seemed heavy. Very few dared ask questions after seeing the expressions on the faces of the guards stationed there.
Wade, Malik, and the rest of the Imperial Guard leaders held a status second only to the three marshals.
In fact, even the three marshals themselves could not issue them orders. That was what made them special. Only His Majesty commanded the Imperial Guards, and if one day he ordered them to kill the three marshals or destroy the Grave Empire itself, they would not hesitate for even a moment. Their loyalty did not belong to armies, political factions, or even the empire itself... it belonged solely to the throne.
Wade's presence here meant that this matter was connected to His Majesty himself, that much was certain.
Whoosh
A shadow arrived at great speed and landed beside Wade, though this time he was not wearing the robes of a Royal Soul Master. "Division Chief Wade?" Haros spoke with surprise after recognizing him. "I was not informed that you were personally here."
Then he looked toward another Royal Soul Master leaving through the gate, his expression immediately changing. "What is happening?!" Haros asked in alarm.
The stationed group of Royal Soul Masters represented the second line of defense after the arrays, and the foremost pillar of psychological reassurance for everyone within the empire. Entire planets remained calm simply because those figures existed nearby. Everyone felt reassured regarding the possibility of war against the Empire of Eternal Chaos because those terrifying experts were stationed here... their departure was a massive blow to both morale and military stability.
"A small problem on Planet Donara." Wade sent Haros a meaningful glance. "We may require additional support."
"Donara?!" Haros understood immediately.
The planet where His Majesty resided, where the gate that continuously spewed space beasts existed... something had definitely happened there, something enormous! If even the Imperial Guards were personally withdrawing Royal Soul Masters in this manner, then the situation was certainly far beyond ordinary danger.
"Should I gather the wing commanders for you?!" Haros asked quickly, almost instinctively stepping forward. Whatever was happening on Donara was vastly more important than anything else. If the situation there spiraled out of control, the consequences could spread throughout the entire Mid Sector.
But he quickly shook his own head before Wade could even answer. He already knew Wade would firmly refuse.
"No. The oath they took is not harsh enough for us to trust them to that degree." Wade began walking toward the gate, his cloak swaying behind him with each step. "But tell them to remain prepared... we may need them, who knows."
Haros watched Wade disappear into the gate behind the final Royal Soul Master remaining on the planet, then swallowed as he felt his legs weaken slightly beneath him.
Even Wade himself had personally gone there...
Just how terrible was the situation over there?!
