Chapter 2492: Seeing the truth

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

In the capital of a Centennial Empire—Sector 904—

Here in the capital of the Iron Glory Empire lived all the members of the ruling family and the families closest to them, filling the capital with nobles, children of nobles, and the servants who attended to them, to the point that it was difficult to find anyone belonging to another class here at all... just like most imperial capitals scattered throughout the universe.

Ever since the war began more than a week ago, enormous screens had been installed throughout the major squares to follow the ten broadcasts without interruption. The nobles had been excused from their duties, and life throughout the capital had largely ground to a halt as everyone gathered to watch the battle that was changing the face of the universe before their very eyes, a battle that, in their minds, was being fought between evil and an even greater evil.

But suddenly, after those broadcasts changed from the enormous battles they had been following into what appeared to be nothing more than a conversation between two men... everyone’s expressions suddenly changed along with them.

<...They should be grateful that I don’t intend to burn the universe and everyone in it, and if I did... it would be my right.>

Poof

One of the mustached men standing among the spectators suddenly collapsed to the ground, his eyes trembling violently as the meaning of those words struck him.

The enormous square, which held hundreds of thousands of spectators who had been watching the broadcast together, fell completely silent. The silence became so absolute that if a needle fell to the ground at that moment, the tiny noise it made would sound like an explosion here.

Their expressions gradually turned to horror, confusion, tension, and utter helplessness as they tried to understand everything they had just heard... Suddenly, the world they had known and understood throughout their entire lives had begun collapsing right before their eyes.

But that suffocating silence didn’t last for long.

"...What does he mean? What does he mean by that?!"

"We... we’re just secondary actors in some enormous conspiracy? All the great powers know that the world is going to end, and they’re conspiring against us so they can survive on their own while leaving everyone else behind?!"

"Lord Robin is fighting alone on behalf of all of us while everyone else merely watches!"

"He’s trying to put us on the right path all by himself. The Cosmic Elder left him with a responsibility like this, entrusted something this enormous to him, while we curse him and wish for his destruction day and night?!"

"Everyone, maybe he’s lying! Maybe everything he’s saying is—"

"Shut up!!"

"....." From the balcony of his palace overlooking the capital, the Centennial Emperor’s face twisted so badly that it looked as though someone had suddenly driven a dagger into him.

This empire had been founded eight million years ago by his own father, and throughout all those years he had hoped to continue leading it for at least another eight million, never imagining that the future he had taken for granted might not exist at all.

The rumors about the hundred-million-year mark? Of course he had heard them before, just as he had heard all the rumors concerning the Ancient Belt...

Everyone had always believed that the planets would eventually drift toward another dimension, just as the planets of the Young Belt did when they transitioned into the Mid Belt. Everyone had been waiting for that distant moment to finally discover whether there truly was an Ancient Belt waiting for them to transition into, or whether the entire thing was merely another rumor and they would simply remain exactly as they were forever.

But apparently, there was no such thing as forever at all. Something really was going to happen when that time arrived, something real rather than some distant rumor, and whatever that something was, it would mean their deaths.

And that something was connected to the Space Beasts beyond the End-of-the-World Wall, the very beasts that Lord Robin was currently fighting, while the Cosmic Elder himself had previously gone beyond that wall to hunt the greater ones among them...

All of this had been happening around them while they remained completely oblivious!

"...Send word to every Centennial and Millennial Empire in the Sector. We need to sit down together and discuss this..." The Emperor gritted his teeth as he gave the order, unable to simply continue watching without doing anything after everything he had just heard.

Beside him, an old man immediately bowed. "Your Majesty... four urgent meeting requests have already arrived, and more requests are still coming in one after another. The meeting is scheduled for the moment the broadcast ends."

"When the broadcast ends..." The Centennial Emperor let out a long breath as he continued staring at the enormous screen. "What more could he possibly say after everything that’s already been said? Fine... I understand them. Let’s keep listening and see what else he has to say."

-----------------------

Greed Behemoth Galaxy—

Amid hills upon hills of gemstones and glittering treasures, and upon a throne made from stellar gold and Space Beast ivory... sat a round figure wearing a crown larger than his own head and an enormous necklace that hung down almost to his thigh.

That person continued staring at Robin as he calmly examined the book in his hands, while his own eyes remained visibly unsettled, their contents difficult to read or clearly distinguish... It was impossible to tell whether the emotion struggling inside those eyes was tension over what he had just heard, or greed toward what he was currently seeing!

"Opening passages with Spacetime... and your disciple sends you a degree of the Master Law of Identity? And that’s without even mentioning the Law of Truth you’ve already become famous for. Hmm, now this is true wealth, not those glittering stones..." The Behemoth began rubbing his fat-covered chin while continuing to stare at Robin. "Hmm, it’s only natural that he said at the beginning that he needs no one and nothing. I can’t expect anything less from someone who can fight three Great Powers without being swiftly annihilated... The amount of wealth and resources in his possession seems endless, and even one of his disciples has reached this level of strength."

"O Scion of Greatness," three half-naked girls beside the throne immediately dropped to the ground before him, "do you wish to make any move?"

"Hmm..." Finally, the tension within the Behemoth’s eyes gradually began to overcome the greed that had been competing with it. "Contact Amat and offer to purchase any information from his archives connected to what we’re hearing right now, any ancient information that could confirm or deny these claims, including information concerning the movements of the Four Great Powers in general throughout those ninety-eight million years, and whether there has been any coordination between them during that period or whether they share any common objective."

"At once." All three of them rose simultaneously without wasting any more time.

As for the Behemoth, his attention immediately returned to Robin’s eyes on the broadcast. "...Your thousandth birthday, huh?" Then he continued watching him, and the greed in his gaze gradually began to prevail once again. "You’ve accumulated an enormous fortune, founded an entire chain of Cosmic Academies, fought Space Beasts using an army of the Plague, and at the exact same time you’re fighting three Great Powers... You’ve accomplished all of that, and today is only your thousandth birthday, certified by the Soul Society itself."

Then he raised one hand and began rubbing his chest vigorously as he continued staring at the broadcast. "Good... good... The truth will inevitably come out sooner or later... The truth always comes out..."

---------------------------

Mid Sector 90—

On the surface of a barren planet still bearing clear traces of destruction, Renara stood watching the broadcast from a Phantom Shadow vessel stationed directly in front of her.

Her arms remained crossed tightly as she watched Robin without looking away, observing every one of his movements, every change in his emotions, and especially the deep, buried anger that could be sensed behind nearly every word he spoke...

She couldn’t stop the corners of her mouth from drooping downward as she gripped her own arms more tightly, almost as though she wanted to dig her fingers into them while she continued staring at him. "...This is the first time I’ve ever heard him speak this way."

"...He’s right about every single word." A man’s voice came from behind her, and Hedrick was also watching the broadcast with his brows tightly knitted. "There are details I’m hearing directly from him for the first time as well, things I didn’t know before, and even I’m starting to feel angry after hearing all of this."

"Why... why is he still fighting on Donara and sitting there personally protecting the Passage while he’s simultaneously fighting three Great Powers here in Mid Sector 90? All he has to do is stop what he’s doing, and they’ll leave him alone..." Then she narrowed her tear-filled eyes as she continued watching Robin. "Is he doing all of this for us?"

Hedrick stared at Robin’s regal profile on the broadcast for a long moment. "...We’ve personally witnessed the Lord’s strength and capabilities, and it’s obvious that the Cosmic Elder witnessed those things as well and placed his trust not only in those abilities, but in his character too... The Lord does what he believes is appropriate. He has his own vision of everything happening around him, a vision that we cannot fully understand, and our role is simply to carry out that vision without asking questions."

"We’ll continue fighting until we’re ordered to do otherwise." Hedrick raised his head slightly as he murmured those words, then turned his gaze toward a distant planet. "...The question is, will his words make any difference on the other side?"
