Editor: Misty Cloud TranslationsGray Wolf clutched the wound in his abdomen as he retreated to stand beside Shadow One. Cold sweat beaded on his forehead, his face pale as he asked, "What’s that sound?"
"Sounds like a fierce beast running?" Shadow One hesitated before speaking. Regaining his composure, he steadied Gray Wolf with one hand. Seeing the sword still lodged in his abdomen, blood seeping freely, he asked, "How are you?"
"Hmph! Won’t be dying anytime soon."
Gray Wolf snorted, took a deep breath, and reached behind him to grasp the sword. With a surge of spirit energy, he snapped the blade clean through at the point where it pierced his waist.
"Clang!"
The blade snapped clean in two, emitting a crisp, metallic clang. He didn’t pull out the broken piece, knowing that doing so might cause unstoppable bleeding.
The battle wasn’t over yet, and he could still fight!
"It’s Bai Xiao!" Qi Kang declared, a gleam flashing in his eyes. "He’s arrived just in time! As long as he ties up those cultivators, we have a chance to win!"
"Roar!"
"Howl!"
His words had barely fallen when, amidst the thundering vibrations, a series of beastly roars echoed through the air.
Simultaneously, the expressions of the several monarchs darkened. Turning their heads, they noticed a massive eagle soaring toward them from the distance. Upon its back stood a man clad in green, holding a flute and playing it.
No one heard the sound of the flute, yet they could see rings of musical energy emanating from it.
"Awoo!"
Hundreds of powerful fierce beasts charged forward, lunging at the cultivators below. Their attacks were immediate, tearing and biting, plunging the group accompanying the monarchs into chaotic battle against the beasts.
"Are you all right?" Bai Xiao twirled his flute and called out to Qi Kang and the others below.
"If you’d arrived any later, we probably wouldn’t be doing so well," Gray Wolf replied with a faint, pale smile.
Seeing the conspicuous wounds covering each of them, Bai Xiao explained, "The beasts I command can only handle those cultivators. They’re no match for those monarchs."
The monarchs’ power and aura were too overwhelming. These fierce beasts were not ancient Sacred Beasts. They could handle the cultivators, but they dared not approach those monarchs.
"We’ll deal with them!" Qi Kang declared, twirling his sword. He fixed his gaze on the monarchs, whose faces darkened as they watched the ensuing battle between humans and beasts. His voice barely faded before he leapt into the air, sword raised, charging toward one of the monarchs.
Seeing this, Bai Xiao leapt from the eagle’s back and grabbed the Gray Wolf, who was holding his sword and about to charge into battle. "Are you out of your mind? You’ve got a broken sword lodged in your belly, bleeding!"
"I won’t die! I’m going to take out a few more!" Gray Wolf said, pushing him aside and preparing to advance.
"Stay back!" Shadow One frowned, instructing Bai Xiao to keep watch. Only then did he gather his strength and dart toward the remaining lords.
"Leave the rest to us! We’ll take them all down!" After slashing through several cultivators, Xu Duo also charged at the lords.
In terms of combat prowess, the eight Phoenix Guard captains were all equally formidable. Trained personally by their Master, they were confident they could handle the troublesome cultivators and eliminate the remaining lords!
Amidst the constant clamor of battle and beast roars, Bai Xiao saw the situation and pulled him halfway back.
