Chapter 5170: Brother

Hearing her words, Hao’er and Muchen exchanged glances and said in unison, “That’s not appropriate.”

“Huh? Not appropriate?” Yue’er looked at them in surprise, then glanced down at her dress. “This is the dress Mother prepared for me—it’s brand new! Why isn’t it appropriate? I think it looks pretty good!”

“Too flashy.” Hao’er said, looking at his little sister. The thought of her deliberately dressing up so beautifully to go meet that Xiao boy left a bitter taste in his mouth.

“Yeah, too flashy.” Muchen chimed in with a straight face, studying her seriously. “I think you should just wear your everyday clothes. And don’t put that flower in your hair—it doesn’t look good.”

“Really? I didn’t put on that many flowers! Should I go back and change then?” she asked, looking at them.

“Yes, go back and change.” They said in unison.

Seeing both brothers disapprove, she thought for a moment before obediently heading back toward the cave abode. “Wait for me, I’ll be out soon,” she called back.

After watching her enter the cave abode, Muchen’s handsome little face tightened. “Big Brother, I don’t like this Xiao Junyan.” Why did he feel like someone was trying to steal his sister? He disliked this Xiao fellow even before meeting him.

Hao’er’s tone carried a hint of sourness. “But just to meet that Xiao fellow once, Yue’er went to such trouble to dress up beautifully. Why didn’t she think to dress up beautifully for us when she saw us?”

The two brothers stood before the cave abode, their voices tinged with resentment, until Yue’er emerged. Only then did they fall silent.

“Big Brother, Little Brother, how do I look in this? Not too flashy, right?” Yue’er approached with a radiant smile, spreading her arms wide and twirling around for their inspection.

The pink dress wasn’t new, but it wasn’t old either. It still fit her perfectly. Compared to the ethereal grace of the sky-blue gown, this pink ensemble made her appear even more adorable and charming. No matter how you looked at her, she was simply stunning.

“Yue’er is naturally beautiful. Whatever she wears looks good on her,” Hao’er remarked, a hint of resignation in his voice.

“Sister, come here.” Muchen beckoned to her.

“Coming!” Yue’er spotted them and scampered over, beaming as she asked, “Is this alright? Can we go down the mountain now?”

Muchen reached up and gently removed the two small pearl flowers pinned in her hair. “No need for pearls now,” he said. “This is perfect. Clean, simple, and pleasing to the eye.”

“But Mother bought these for me! I usually don’t even dare to wear them,” Yue’er protested, staring at the pearls her brother had removed. She couldn’t understand why he was doing this. Pearls were for girls; he couldn’t wear them.

“Keep them. You can wear them again later,” Muchen said, handing the pearls back to her. “Once we’re down the mountain, remember to change how you address me.”

“Got it, got it.” Yue’er replied, tucking the hairpin away as she followed her brothers down the mountain.

At the mountain’s base, Xiao Junyan sat resting his eyes against a rock. Suddenly, he heard someone calling his name and opened his eyes.

“Brother Junyan? Br…”

Yue’er followed her two brothers down the mountain. But the morning mist was thick, and she couldn’t see where Xiao Junyan was. She started calling out, only to be silenced by her brother beside her after just a few shouts.
