In Yunxiao Mountain

A young lady clad in a light-coloured dress ran toward the mountain’s highest peak without drawing upon her spirit energy to boost her speed. Ahead of her, a lion ran slightly faster, occasionally glancing back at her.

"Master, you won’t catch me," the lion spoke, leaping forward another dozen metres.

Yue’er widened her eyes. "I’m a two-legged human! How could I possibly outrun you with four legs?" Her lively eyes twinkled with a flash of mischief. The next moment, her spirit energy surged, propelling her feet like the wind. With a few swift strides, she shot past the lion.

"Come on, let’s see who’s faster!" Yue’er laughed heartily as she darted up the mountain, her silver-bell laughter clear and pleasant, echoing through the forest.

Human and beast raced toward the mountaintop. After about the time it takes to burn a stick of incense, Yue’er reached the summit. Spotting the figure sitting cross-legged on the rock, she broke into a wide smile.

"Master!"

She called out, running forward to his side.

Years ago, after she and her two brothers had accompanied their parents back to visit Grandfather and the others, they stayed there for several months before returning. By the time they came back, their master had already returned to Yunxiao Mountain ahead of them, so the three of them made their own way back to the mountain.

Two years prior, her Father and Mother had departed without taking any of their children, wandering off to who knew where, only occasionally sending word.

Her Big Brother had also left the mountain two years ago and was now making a name for himself in the outside world.

Only she and her younger brother remained on Yunxiao Mountain. Their master had decreed they must reach fifteen before descending. Today marked their fifteenth birthday. Her brother was still practicing early in the rear mountains, while she had come to this mountaintop long ago to find their master.

Years ago, she and Big Brother Xiao had promised to travel together, but after returning, she never left the mountain gates again. Big Brother Xiao, however, had visited her several times, each time bringing back trinkets he’d bought during his travels.

The Azure Emperor sat cross-legged, gazing at the mist-shrouded scenery before him. Listening to his young disciple’s voice, sweet and full of joy, he turned his head slightly to look at her.

The little girl before him had grown up. She was no longer the chubby toddler of years past. Now she stood gracefully, charming and spirited, her face radiant with a bright smile.

Her features, by the standards of the Immortal Realm, were ordinary—neither strikingly stunning nor exceptionally beautiful. They were the kind easily overlooked in a crowd.

Yet, paired with her mischievous, lively eyes, that unremarkable face became impossible to ignore.

All these years, she had never shown her true appearance while by his side. What breathtaking beauty would emerge when her true face was revealed?

His gaze flickered as he recalled the girl from his memories—Yun Qi, the one he had found and taken in as his disciple.

Over the years, he seemed to have gradually forgotten the face of his first disciple, Yun Qi. Her features had blurred unnoticed, yet the only thing that remained as vivid as ever were her smiles and frowns, her cheerful calls of "Master..."

As his thoughts drifted, the crisp calls reached his ears once more.

"Master? Master?"

Yue’er looked at him curiously and asked, "Master, what’s wrong?"
