Editor: Misty Cloud TranslationsThe middle-aged man on stage sported a pair of handlebar mustaches and held a folding fan in his hand. Presumably parched from speaking, he picked up the teacup from the table, took a sip, and continued: "Now then, when the Phoenix Empress single-handedly vanquished the three great emperors, the lands they once ruled shook as mountains crumbled and the earth split apart, the very heavens and earth changed color..."
Yue’er propped her cheek with one hand, listening with a smile as the storyteller recounted the Mother’s legendary battle against the three great emperors.
She never tired of hearing tales of her parents’ exploits, her heart filled only with pride and joy.
They were her Father and Mother! One day, she too would become a formidable powerhouse like them.
"Miss, here are complimentary tea snacks from our teahouse," the waiter announced, setting down the tea and treats before withdrawing.
Yue’er poured herself a cup and sipped it, slightly surprised. This spirit tea was truly remarkable. With just one sip, she felt her body brimming with Spirit Energy, and all traces of fatigue were swept away.
Sipping her tea, listening to the storyteller, and nibbling on the delicate pastries, she closed her eyes contentedly. Whenever the middle-aged storyteller reached a thrilling part, the patrons in the hall would applaud and cheer, some even tossing coins onto the stage as tips.
With a flick of her wrist, she mimicked the others, tossing several gold coins toward the stage. Instead of scattering on the platform, they landed precisely on the table, stacking neatly into a small pile.
The storyteller froze upon seeing the coins fall from above, his narration halting momentarily. He looked up at the second floor, his gaze landing on the smiling young woman. Instantly, he bowed with his fan in hand, his enthusiasm surging like he’d been injected with adrenaline, his storytelling growing more animated by the moment.
While others typically tossed small silver coins as tips, seeing someone reward him with several gold coins at once drew the attention of the first-floor patrons. They glanced up at the girl on the second floor, somewhat surprised to find that the generous tipster was a young lady.
Yet her attire was clearly of high quality, suggesting she was likely the young lady of some prominent family. They paid her little further attention, instead returning their focus to the middle-aged storyteller on stage.
"Whose daughter is that? She looks unfamiliar!" Nearby, at a tea table, several men murmured among themselves, their scrutinizing gazes fixed on Yue’er, dressed in a light-coloured gown.
"Is there any girl in this city we don’t know? If she looks unfamiliar, she’s definitely not from one of our local noble families. And look—she’s not accompanied by anyone. Probably just traveling through, huh?" remarked another man dressed in luxurious robes, a hint of mischief in his expression. His gaze lingered on the girl they were discussing as she continued to eat without pause, prompting a soft chuckle.
"Looks like she’s got a good appetite. Nice demeanor, though her looks are a bit plain."
"This girl clearly has no experience traveling. She just tossed out a few gold coins as a tip. See? In just a moment, people have already set their sights on her." The other man chuckled, tapping his fingers lightly on the table.
The man in the fancy clothes gave a sly grin, shot a glance at his companion, and teased, "If that’s the case, should we wait around to play the knight in shining armor?"
"Hahahaha..."
The man beside him burst into loud laughter, though his chuckles were drowned out by the cheers below. Patting his companion on the shoulder, he remarked, "Who was it just now who said this girl was plain?"
