Editor: Misty Cloud TranslationsA chilling breeze swept through the air. She sensed something approaching her, yet it remained hidden, watching her without drawing too near.
Yue’er gripped the Divine Whip in her hand and chuckled, "This secret realm seems rather entertaining!"
Suddenly, the whip snapped out, cracking against a nearby tree trunk. A layer of bark peeled away, leaving a fresh gash. The chilling aura that had permeated the area vanished with the crack of the whip.
She glanced around, gave a light snort, then gathered her energy and darted forward. However, after covering only a short distance, a pack of fierce beasts closed in, baring their teeth and snarling at her.
Seeing this, Yue’er tucked away her whip with a smile and drew her dagger instead. Before the fierce beasts could pounce, she lunged at them first.
Perhaps stunned that a human would dare attack them, the fierce beasts hesitated a moment before baring their claws and lunging to bite her.
Yet, after a stick of incense burned, only screams echoed as the fierce beasts scattered in flight. The air thickened with the scent of blood, and several carcasses lay sprawled on the ground. Yue’er was busy extracting beast crystals and cutting off the horns of those with medicinal value.
With her strength and the powerful contract beast by her side, these fierce beasts were no match for her. Thus, she walked on, gathering whatever she deemed useful along the way.
Surprisingly, she walked alone for an entire day without encountering a single person, as if she were the only one in this place.
As dusk fell, the air thickened with an eerie chill. The forest echoed intermittently with the roars of fierce beasts and the howls of wolves, making danger feel ever-present.
When night descended, she set up an array around herself, scattered insect-repelling powder, and lit a campfire. She rested by the fire.
As night deepened, the beastly roars vanished inexplicably, replaced by ghostly wails that echoed through the air. The chill in the atmosphere grew more bone-chilling, forcing her to abandon her plans for rest and remain vigilant.
She knew her body had always drawn such dark entities since childhood. Yet her parents had given her a protective treasure that kept these malevolent forces at bay. All these years, none had dared approach her.
Tonight, however, an inexplicable unease gripped her. Her grip tightened on the whip in her hand as she scanned her surroundings with heightened vigilance.
As midnight passed and drowsiness deepened, she inadvertently dozed off...
The very instant she fell into slumber, a chilling wind swept through. The burning branches, as if doused with cold water, hissed and died out.
A wisp of smoke began to spread, enveloping Yue’er. Faintly, an eerie sound emerged—an echoey, spine-chilling laugh. Yet Yue’er, usually so vigilant, seemed utterly oblivious. Leaning against the great tree behind her, she slept soundly until she was completely engulfed by that wisp of smoke, vanishing as if absorbed into the forest itself.
In truth, she remained seated there, leaning against the tree before the extinguished fire. Though she appeared to be in a deep slumber, her sleep seemed restless. Her brow was tightly furrowed, and beads of sweat had formed on her forehead...
