Accompanying the Azure Emperor’s voice was a powerful aura of destruction. He supported the unconscious Yun Qi with one hand while gathering spirit energy in the other to grasp at the void. The dissipating Yin energy around him seemed to be forcibly trapped in that instant, and his hand pierced through it to seize a fragment of shadowy nothingness.

The shadow possessed a blurred form, its eyes glowing with an eerie green fire, now wide with terror. It struggled desperately to escape, even amplifying its own Yin energy until the surrounding trees and leaves were coated in a layer of frost. Yet it could not break free from the Azure Emperor’s grasp.

"Who... who are you?"

Despite its millennia of cultivation, it found itself utterly unable to escape this person’s grasp. The terrifying power emanating from this being was unlike anything it had encountered in its thousand years here. In that moment, an inexplicable dread washed over it, an aura of annihilation enveloping it. It felt as though its thousand-year-old spirit would be extinguished by this person in the very next instant.

"Spare me... spare me, sir..." It begged instinctively, utterly unaware that targeting the little girl with the innate spirit-gathering body would draw such a terrifying presence.

"Too late."

A cold, indifferent voice carried a murderous intent. He stared at the ancient specter clutched in his hand, his palm tightening slowly as a powerful current of energy gathered. A flame seemed to ignite within his grasp, consuming the millennia-old specter until it was utterly incinerated.

"Ah... no..."

A shrill, wretched scream, filled with resentment and unwillingness, pierced the night. The sound, starting piercingly sharp, gradually grew weaker and fainter until the ghostly soul was completely consumed in his palm, leaving only two green beads.

He examined the two beads in his hand, then swept his arm to dispel the lingering Yin energy from the space. Glancing down at the unconscious Yun Qi, he frowned.

"Master... Master..."

Whether it was the dissipation of the Yin energy or not, her consciousness slowly returned. Though her eyes remained closed, she called out repeatedly for her master, her arms clutching his hand tightly.

"Master..."

Yue’er slept restlessly, feeling herself plunged into boundless darkness. The coldness within that darkness froze her limbs, leaving her utterly powerless. Worst of all, within that void, it felt as though ghostly hands were tugging at her feet, trying to pull her deeper into the darkness.

But then, she thought she saw her master’s hand reaching out, pulling her from the darkness. It dispelled the icy chill from her body, allowing her to gradually feel a hint of warmth.

Ever since childhood, whenever she faced danger, it was always her master who came to her rescue. With him by her side, she felt safe.

The Azure Emperor sat beside her, letting her rest her head on his lap as she fell asleep. One hand rested lightly on her back, patting her gently, just as he had done when she had nightmares as a child, staying by her side.

The fire that had died out was rekindled by him. Warmed by its heat, her once-chilled body gradually grew warmer, and the slight frown between her brows slowly relaxed.

As dawn broke, the Azure Emperor glanced toward a certain spot in the forest, his gaze flickering. In the next moment, he supported Yun Qi against a tree trunk. His figure gradually faded, transforming into a streak of light that settled upon the core of the ten-thousand-year-old spirit wood nestled in Yun Qi’s hair.

Xiao Junyan had followed the sounds through the night, wandering the woods for a long while before sensing a human presence nearby. He had intended to investigate, only to find Yun Qi asleep against the tree.
