Azure Emperor wiped the corner of his mouth. "Next time, taste it yourself first. Make sure it’s good before bringing it to me."

Hearing this, Yue’er beamed. "Master, we’re bored here. Why don’t we go visit my parents? At least Sister Mi’er is there. Her cooking is delicious. I haven’t had it in years."

"If you wish to go, have them come fetch you," the Azure Emperor said indifferently, taking out a book to leaf through.

"If I leave, Master will be all alone here," Yue’er sighed softly, resting her hand on her cheek as she gazed at him.

The Azure Emperor lifted his gaze to meet hers, his eyes settling on hers as if trying to peer through them into her very soul. Lost in thought, he remained silent for a long moment.

"Master?"

"I’m accustomed to being alone," he said, his eyes drifting back to the book he’d casually opened.

Yue’er fidgeted with her hair, twisting strands between her fingers, lightly brushing her nose with the ends, or occasionally nibbling on a lock. Suddenly, as if struck by a thought, she pulled out two emerald-green beads.

"Master, did you give me these?" she asked, looking up at him.

The Azure Emperor glanced at Yue’er and replied indifferently, "Mhm."

Yue’er’s eyes lit up. "So it really was you who saved me back then? I thought I’d just dreamed about you!" She laughed, her face radiant with joy and curiosity. "But Master, weren’t you on the mountain? How did you end up in the secret realm? And how did you know I was in danger?"

Perhaps finding her questions excessive, the Azure Emperor looked at her and asked, "Have you finished your calligraphy practice for today?"

"Huh?" Yue’er froze, wondering why he’d suddenly changed the subject. Still, she obediently shook her head. "No, I haven’t written it yet!"

"Then go write it. Don’t disturb your master while I’m reading." The Azure Emperor said indifferently, his voice neither loud nor soft.
