Chapter 1675 Unzoku's Power (Part 1)

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The same question kept circling through the minds of the three of them again and again, refusing to leave no matter how hard they tried to focus on what was happening in front of them.

Why were they here?

Were they sent to this place because of the Medallion, dragged into the past by something they didn’t yet understand? Or was it Unzoku himself, pulling strings from afar, watching them closely and interfering the moment things started to slip out of his control?

No matter how they tried to reason it out, the timing was too perfect to ignore.

Whatever force had brought them here, it had activated at the exact moment when the three Alphas stood together, ready to clash. It had stopped the fight completely, freezing the situation in a way that felt unnatural, as if the world itself had intervened. And now they had been chucked into a world which was in the same situation.

For now, Jack and Steve were no longer charging at each other, no longer consumed by rage or desperation.

Instead, everyone stood still.

And now, rather than actively fighting, Gary, Kai, and Lupus felt like they were watching a replay of history, or worse, participating in a scenario from the past that felt disturbingly familiar to their own time.

The realization settled heavily in their chests.

The quest that had just appeared made things even clearer.

Unzoku was the cause.

He was the reason tension had built between Gary and Lupus in their own era, slowly poisoning trust and pushing them toward conflict. And now it was undeniable, he had done the same thing here, long ago, manipulating Jack and Steve, nudging them closer and closer to tearing each other apart.

If Unzoku could be dealt with here…

Then maybe, just maybe, the same solution could be applied in their own time as well.

Yet Kai’s thoughts went even deeper than that.

If we really have gone into the past, Kai thought, his eyes narrowing slightly as he stared ahead, then what if they failed?

The idea made his stomach twist.

What if Jack, Steve, and the others had tried to stop Unzoku before, and failed? What if that failure was the very reason Unzoku still existed in their present time, stronger and more dangerous than ever?

That left only two possibilities.

Either we find a way to defeat Unzoku ourselves… Kai continued silently, or we help them defeat him here and it allows him to be gone from out time.

But Kai found it difficult to believe the second option was the true answer.

There was a reason his mind resisted it so strongly.

If the system, or whatever force was controlling this trial, truly wanted them to directly help defeat Unzoku in this era, then their powers wouldn’t be restricted the way they were now. They wouldn’t feel suppressed, weakened, forced to fight with limits they had never experienced before.

No, this felt like observation. Learning. Preparation.

“As I said before,” Lenny spoke calmly, his voice cutting through Kai’s thoughts, “the one who must be dealt with is Unzoku. He is the one actively manipulating both sides, trying to force you into fighting one another.”

Jack listened closely, his jaw clenched.

Lenny reached into the pouch at his side and pulled out a small object, tossing it gently toward Jack. Jack caught it instinctively, looking down to see a ring resting in his palm.

“This is your reward for listening to me,” Lenny said. “Place that ring on Lilly’s hand, and she will be able to walk in the sunlight once more. It was forged using materials from rare beasts, so do not lose it. If I discover a cure or learn anything further, you will be the first to know.”

Jack’s grip tightened around the ring.

“The most important thing,” Lenny continued, his tone growing more serious, “is that you keep her close to you. What Lilly has, as I’m sure you’ve already seen, is something that can spread.”

His gaze darkened slightly.

“This world is cruel. It places people in positions they would never willingly choose. Normally, no one would ever wish for the person they love to become like me… or like Lilly. But when the choice is between death and survival, people will do whatever they must, even if the one they’re saving doesn’t want to be saved.”

There was a pause before he added quietly, “And then there are those like Unzoku… who spread this affliction deliberately.”

Jack said nothing, but his shoulders were tense, his expression conflicted.

“So then,” Steve finally asked, breaking the silence, “how do we stop him?”

Bliss stepped forward, lifting her hand. Three fingers rose slowly into the air.

“And here lies the problem,” she said. “Unzoku possesses a unique form of power over those who share his power. That means every werewolf.”

A murmur rippled through the group.

“However,” Bliss continued, “this power is not entirely his own. It is enhanced. You do not need to understand how or why, only what it means.”

She lowered her hand slightly, her eyes sharp.

“As time passes, Unzoku grows stronger. His influence over those like him increases. Every death empowers him. Every time those who share his blood kill one another, he gains even more strength.”

The words hit hard.

“This is precisely why he wants you to fight,” Bliss said. “Although his power grows naturally with time, abilities such as control, curses, and imposed rules require immense energy. Think of it like mana. It takes a great deal to use, and it recovers very slowly.”

She took a breath before continuing.

“If you confront him directly, using everything you have, there is a strong chance he will respond by using these abilities. He could deal with you quickly, though he would prefer not to. As long as you live, you are a source of power to him.”

Jack and Steve exchanged looks.

“However,” Bliss said, her voice firm, “that is where we come in. Lenny and I will assist you. I can restrict Unzoku’s abilities, cutting him off from his influence over you. You are both strong, and you are not alone. You have allies capable of helping you face him.”

Then her expression darkened.

“But there is one more complication.”

Everyone leaned in.

“Unzoku has a particular connection,” Bliss explained. “The closer he is to death, the more power others will lend him, consciously or not. When desperation rises, so does his strength. In those moments, he becomes far more dangerous than ever before.”

Silence fell across the mountain peak.

“And that,” Bliss concluded slowly, “is why I have another suggestion…”
