Chapter 1682 Another Problem

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

“You mean there are vampires with Unzoku?” Gary asked.

It was hard to believe. During their time, there had been no collaboration between the two groups, at least not openly. Vampires and Werewolves had always been enemies, standing on opposite sides of the battlefield. Yet, when he thought about it more carefully, certain things began to line up.

The Vampires wished to get rid of the Werewolves entirely, while Unzoku wished for the two Alphas to fight each other and tear their own kind apart. If the two sides had teamed up at some point, even briefly, it would have created a terrifying enemy. One that could strike from the shadows while manipulating events from above.

However, at least in their current time, it didn’t appear as if the two factions were working together. If they were, then the war would have already been far worse than it was now.

“Vampires… so that’s the name that has been given to us,” Lenny mumbled to himself.

His voice was calm, but his expression wasn’t. He wasn’t focused on the name itself, but on the presence of the two figures standing guard outside the cave.

Those vampires are clearly in a strong state of mind, Lenny thought. Which means they know exactly what they are doing… and who they are working for.

That thought unsettled him more than he wanted to admit.

I’ve already made contact with most of them in this era, he continued silently. Does that mean one of them has been working behind my back… or has been swayed over to the other side without my knowledge?

“I will deal with them,” Lenny said suddenly.

He gestured for the rest of the group to stay where they were. There was no hesitation in his movement, as if he had already decided what needed to be done the moment he laid eyes on them.

Without another word, Lenny moved off to the side.

The others waited in silence. A few moments passed before they noticed Lenny scaling the side of the mountain with surprising speed. His movements were precise and controlled, his figure blending into the rocky surface until he was directly above the guards.

He waited.

Even Gary could tell that Lenny was calculating the exact moment to strike.

Then he dropped.

Lenny landed directly on top of the first vampire. The impact was brutal. Before the creature could even react, Lenny drove his fist forward, smashing it into the vampire’s head. The force was overwhelming, killing it instantly.

The second vampire barely had time to turn its head.

A thin red line of aura shot from Lenny’s hand, slicing across the vampire’s chest. The attack was quick but restrained, not enough to cut the vampire in half. Lenny didn’t stop moving. He sprinted forward, closed the distance, clamped his hand over the vampire’s mouth, and slammed its body into the cavern wall.

The sound of bone scraping against stone echoed softly as the vampire’s back was crushed against the rock.

“He’s quite strong for an old man,” Gary muttered.

“We are all old now,” Bluebird replied calmly. “But although he was more well known for his alchemy skills, he was a hero of the war. In more ways than one, he actively took part in the final battle against the Shadow Plague.”

What drew everyone’s attention, however, was not how easily Lenny had killed the first guard, but what he was doing with the second.

Lenny didn’t finish it immediately.

Instead, his eyes began to glow red as he stared directly into the vampire’s face.

“Who was it?” Lenny demanded. “Who was the one that turned you?”

His grip tightened.

“Tell me their name.”

The vampire’s eyes dulled slightly, its resistance fading under Lenny’s pressure.

“Their name…” the vampire replied weakly. “Their name is Laxmus.”

The moment he received his answer, Lenny acted without hesitation. His hand flashed forward, slicing the vampire cleanly across the throat.

The body fell limp.

“This is a dangerous issue that must be resolved,” Lenny mumbled to himself. “It’s as I suspected… but first, I have to deal with the current situation.”

He turned and signaled to the others, letting them know it was safe to approach.

“It appears these two were the only guards on watch,” Lenny said. “But they weren’t guarding Unzoku directly.”

“Unzoku is confident in his power,” Lenny continued. “If anyone tries to go against him, he believes he can deal with them himself. These guards were only here to handle anyone who happened to stumble upon the cave.”

As the group ventured inside, they were all surprised by how well they could see despite the darkness. Even Bluebird, a human, moved without hesitation, his eyes adjusting quickly.

The deeper they went, the heavier the air became.

Bodies littered the ground.

Dead Werewolves.

Steve clenched his jaw, forcing himself not to speak immediately.

“There…” he said quietly. “From the pack. It really was Unzoku who was behind everything.”

“I’m sorry,” Jack said, his voice heavy. “For ever accusing you of being the cause of all this. In return, I will do everything I can to take him down.”

If anything, seeing the bodies only strengthened Steve’s resolve. Any doubt he had left vanished completely.

Lenny gave Bliss a brief look, but said nothing as they continued forward.

The cavern suddenly opened into a massive chamber.

The sight inside was horrifying.

Dead bodies of enormous beasts were scattered across the area. These weren’t ordinary creatures; they were high-tier beasts, powerful entities that should have been nearly impossible to hunt. Some of their bodies were torn apart, half-eaten, while others looked drained of life entirely.

Crystals jutted from the ground and walls, glowing faintly.

Strange markings were etched across every surface, symbols that pulsed with a disturbing energy.

And standing in the center of it all…

Was the one they were looking for.

“Unzoku!” Jack yelled, his voice echoing violently off the cavern walls.

Unzoku slowly turned around.

His massive demonic Werewolf form loomed over them, eyes burning with malice as he took in everyone present.

“I knew you were already on your way here,” Unzoku said calmly. “There was one simple thing the two of you had to do… but my life has never been easy.”

He took a step forward.

“I suppose once I’ve dealt with you,” Unzoku continued, “I’ll just have to kill all of your family and your packs myself. I’ll start from the beginning again.”

His lips curled into a cruel grin.

“You’ve caused me far too much trouble.”

Bliss moved into position, the medallion clutched tightly in her hand. Energy began to gather around her.

“A Celestial…” Unzoku said, narrowing his eyes. “So that’s your card.”

He laughed.

“I was warned you might come after me,” Unzoku said. “But you are the one who should be afraid of me.”
