Chapter 1684 Unzoku's Last Stand (Part 1)

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Jack’s attack, with the massive hammer fully activated, didn’t just carry his own raw physical strength. It carried the weight of something far greater: the collective power of his pack members. The energy wasn't just coming from him; it was channeling from those in the city, even the non-combatants. As long as they were part of the pack, their Qi was flowing through the connection, surging into him to bolster his strike.

That was the reason why, when the hammer finally connected with Unzoku, it had damaged his body far more severely than the entity had expected.

Beast weapons were originally tools designed to bridge the significant gap between humans and beasts. They allowed humans to harness power they shouldn't naturally possess. Yet, Werewolves were fundamentally different. They were monsters in their own right. They were stronger already, possessing natural regeneration and immense durability. They grew even stronger by consuming the flesh and cores of other beasts.

For a Werewolf, an apex predator, to then use a beast weapon, one designed specifically for them and crafted from the strongest of beasts, the result was catastrophic. It was a multiplier of power that defied logic.

Unzoku had managed to lift both of his arms in a desperate bid to protect himself from the overhead smash, but the sheer flow of energy and the kinetic impact had shuddered through his entire body. He could feel the vibration waving through his bones, threatening to shatter them.

However, Unzoku was not so easily defeated. As he tensed his arms, his muscles bulged grotesquely. It wasn't a normal flex; his arms seemed to inflate, growing to almost twice their original size in a split second, rippling with unnatural power. With a roar, he swung one of those massive arms out, catching Jack right in the stomach.

The blow was heavy. It sent Jack flying to the side like a cannonball, the wind knocked out of him as he crashed into the debris.

At the exact same time, coming from the other flank to cover Jack, Bluebird and Lenny made their move. They came in as a synchronized blur. Lenny fired off a blast of red Aura that looked like the firing of a heavy cannon, a concentrated beam of blood energy. Bluebird, moving with the grace of a master swordsman, thrust forward with his blade shining brightly with concentrated Qi. They both aimed to stab and blast Unzoku’s exposed side while he was distracted.

Unzoku reacted with terrifying speed. He threw his fist into the ground to stabilize himself, and just like how he had expanded his muscles before, he did the same with his torso and side. His entire arm and flank grew into a mass of hardened flesh and muscle, effectively turning into a biological wall.

The attacks hit the flesh wall with a loud thud. The red aura splashed against it harmlessly, and Bluebird's Qi-infused sword struck the hardened muscle but did next to no damage at all, merely bouncing off the impenetrable defense.

Right after the failed attack, Jack was already back on his feet, his regeneration and adrenaline fueling him. He swung the hammer again, aiming for a follow-up. Unzoku’s arms shrunk back to their normal size instantly to increase his speed, and he was able to kick the head of the hammer away mid-swing, deflecting the heavy weapon. He then pulled back, ready to throw his own fist out to crush the wolf's skull.

Jack didn't back down. He swung his arm to intercept, and simultaneously, Bluebird’s sword flashed out, hitting Unzoku's arm and knocking it to the side to ruin his aim. An intense back-and-forth melee ensued, with each collision of fist, hammer, and sword shaking the entirety of the cavern. Dust fell from the ceiling as the structural integrity of their battlefield began to fail.

Watching the chaos, Lenny realized something.

‘Enough damage has been done to Unzoku for now,’ Lenny thought, his eyes tracking the movements of the titan. ‘If they hurt him further, he might tap into more dangerous powers, or become too unpredictable for us to handle. It will be more trouble for us in the long run. I have to create the seal now!’

Lenny utilized his vampire speed, vanishing from his spot and moving quickly from location to location around the perimeter of the fight.

He knelt and embedded a crystal deep into the stone floor. He moved with practiced precision, inputting crystals one by one until they formed a perfect, large circle right around where the three combatants were fighting. As he did this, the fighting in the center had gotten even more intense. Cracks were beginning to show in the walls and floor, even without Unzoku using the full extent of his powers.

Unzoku was starting to adapt. He began to use a number of skills that hadn’t been seen before, moving in strange angles and striking with invisible force. Scratches and deep scars began to appear across Jack’s body, blood matting his fur. Even as he was hit, though, the Alpha never faltered. He took the hits and stood up to strike again, his roar echoing through the chamber.

Bluebird, on the other hand, was pushing himself to his absolute limit. He was using everything he had, his Qi, his footwork, his vision, knowing full well that the margin for error was zero. If he was to get hit cleanly again by one of those muscle-expanded strikes, he would be out of the fight permanently, or worse, dead. He shifted his style, taking a more defensive measure as he moved around, supporting Jack by parrying the blows aimed at the Werewolf’s vital points.

It was working, but only just. The two of them, although doing well, were no longer winning; they were just surviving.

Gary and the others watching from the sidelines were gripping their weapons tight, wondering if they would need to join the fight. They hesitated, however, as they could see Steve and Bliss seemed far too focused on everything that was taking place. Interfering now might ruin the delicate setup.

That was when they spotted Lenny. He had finished placing the perimeter crystals and was now standing in a particular position right behind where the three were mainly fighting. In his hand, he held a strange, pulsating crystal that looked to contain a different array of swirling colors compared to the others.

As Lenny held it tight, ready to activate the seal, his mind flashed back to his conversation with Bliss regarding the plan.

“What is this seal that you are going to use?” Lenny had asked.

“I can create spaces,” Bliss had answered him calmly. “It’s not unique to me; technically, we can all create spaces. However, the level of power and stability creates a difference from one individual to the other. But, to be honest, a space that I would create on my own... Unzoku would be able to break out of it even if he is weakened.”

She had handed him the crystals then.

“Which is why I need to borrow the power of these special crystals. I have borrowed them in order to create a more powerful, reinforced space. It will seal him completely, as he has no access to power from the outside world while trapped in this space… but he will eventually break out. It is not permanent.”

The main issue weighing on Lenny's mind was whether they had done enough. They wanted Unzoku more hurt than he was right now before sealing him. Although the entity had suffered quite a large amount of wounds from Jack primarily, was it enough to keep him sealed for a long time? It was hard to say. But looking at the state of Bluebird and the blood on Jack, they were running out of time.

All Lenny could do right now was trust in the plan and activate it.

He gripped the multicolored crystal, pouring his energy into it.

"I’m activating the seal!" Lenny shouted, his voice cutting through the noise of the battle.
