Lupus and Gary had easily broken out of their chains, the iron links falling away like paper under the weight of their transformation. Having fully transformed, they didn't waste a second, rushing immediately toward the center of the room. Two fully transformed werewolves were already on the move, but Jack and Gary intercepted them with terrifying speed, quickly taking out the two. They didn't rely on complex maneuvers; they had only used one move, grabbing the werewolves and smashing their heads into the ground with everything they had.
The impact was so forceful that it shook the entire cavern they were in, sending a vibration through the stone floor that everyone could feel. For a second, Lupus and Gary stood still, looking down at the werewolves on the ground to see if they would move.
“We didn’t go a little too hard, did we?” Gary asked. He was looking at his own hands, then back at the downed wolves.
Since their powers had been limited and suppressed for some time, a part of them was genuinely excited to finally use their full strength again. They hadn't felt this level of power in what felt like forever, and because of that, they weren't quite sure how to fully control it yet.
They were pushing harder than they realized, fueled by a moment of partly excitement, despite the dire situation they were in.
“It should be fine,” Lupus said, his voice steady. “I can hear that their hearts are still beating. They’re alive. And besides, with these guys, they might actually need a severe beating otherwise they’ll just keep getting back up over and over again.”
It was even then, as Lupus was speaking, he saw one of the werewolves on the ground reaching out. It was moving its hand, its claws scratching at the dirt, almost as if it was trying to claw its way toward the door despite the head injury. It was relentless. Lifting his foot up, Lupus slammed it down with a heavy thud, crushing through the bone of the reaching limb.
“Gary, I’m telling you this now,” Lupus said in a stern voice, turning to his companion. “We are going to need to be quite rough on these guys, otherwise they will keep getting up. It’s almost as if they have been possessed by the Luna’s wolf song.”
Immediately, those words took Gary back in his mind. It took him back to the moment when he was fighting against Lupus's pack in the past. He remembered the terrifying effect the song had on the wolves back then, how the werewolves became almost like mindless zombies that continued to get back up and fight again and again, no matter how much damage they took.
“They’re werewolves,” Lupus reminded him, looking at the others who were starting to stir. “They have strong bodies that can heal from something like this. We can't afford to be soft.”
Around the room, the sound of rattling metal was growing louder. The werewolves were breaking out of their chains one by one, and they started to rush toward the door. They weren't even looking for a fight; it was almost as if they were completely ignoring Gary and Lupus, focused only on getting out. There wasn't much time for talking or planning, so the two of them quickly split up to cover the exits.
Lupus rushed toward the door to block the path. Even on the way there, he was active; he reached out to one of the passing werewolves and pulled them back with a violent tug, throwing them behind him to clear his way. Then, with a powerful spring in his step, he leapt high in the air and went over their heads, landing right in front of the door to act as a final barrier.
He could see that they were still coming right at him, undeterred by his presence. So, Lupus lifted his hand and swung it out with all his might. A large claw strike came forth and hit three of them right in the chest at once, cutting deep and sending them flying back into the center of the room. Another werewolf leapt right up to Lupus, its jaws snapping, but he was able to move his head just in time, avoiding its bite. He grabbed the attacker by the neck and then threw the werewolf right back, sending it crashing into the others who were trying to push forward.
“ARGHH!” Lupus screamed at the top of his lungs, a roar that filled the entire cavern.
He knew he needed to be careful. Even now, he didn't want to kill these werewolves. He didn't want to be forced to kill his own kind just because they were being affected by the power of the Full Moon curse. He wanted to save them, but to do that, he had to keep them in this room.
Gary, at the same time, was taking care of those that were in the center. Since there were so many of them running erratically in every direction, he realized the best thing he could do right now was use his skills to maintain order.
[Lethal Pounce]
He quickly moved from one werewolf to the other, his body a blur of motion as he punched and leapt to the next targets. His hits were so large and carried so much momentum that they were making the werewolves almost float in the air from the impact. He was moving so fast that he had already hit three different werewolves before the first one he struck had even fallen right to the ground.
He then rushed forward again, his eyes locking onto a werewolf trying to sneak past. He kicked one right in the center of the stomach, the force sending them crashing hard into the cavern wall. Another werewolf had managed to leap onto Gary’s back, holding him from behind with a desperate grip, but Gary didn't panic. He was able to use his sheer strength to pry apart their hands, grabbing them and hurling them right to the floor in front of him.
The werewolves that hadn't transformed yet, those who were able to stay in human form because they were low enough on energy, could only watch. Although they felt weak, agitated, and pained by the moon's pull, they were looking at the scene in complete disbelief.
“How… these two,” one of the untransformed wolves whispered. “I knew they were strong when they fought against the pack on Steve’s behalf, but they never showed this level of strength. To be able to take down this many werewolves at once...”
“This power… they’re almost as strong as Alphas of their own pack,” another one noted, unable to take his eyes off the fight.
It wasn't just one or two people thinking this; everyone who hadn't transformed couldn't believe the power of the two fighters. They could clearly tell what their goal was, to stop the others from heading up the stairs. Yet, even as they admired the strength, there was still a gnawing thought in their own minds that they were trying to resist, the urge to join the frenzy and escape.
However, the situation was becoming more difficult, just as Lupus had said earlier. Even the werewolves Lupus had hit with his claw strikes, and even the one whose arm had been crushed earlier, they were all getting back up. They were shaking off the damage and charging again. More and more werewolves were breaking out from their chains across the cavern.
Killing this many werewolves wasn't an issue for Lupus and Gary’s strength; they had the power to end the fight permanently if they wanted to. The true issue was making sure they didn't get back up, and making sure that not a single one managed to escape into the world above.
At the same time, one of the Werewolves that had been struck into the Cavern wall, was now right next to one of the untransformed ones lying there right in front of him, and seeing him, the hunger in his stomach was rumbling.
