Chapter 1722 Meeting Marcus

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

After all of the trouble that had been caused, Marcus was finally being taken to where he needed to be, yet he was still slightly confused by the situation. Things had moved quickly after the fight, faster than he had expected, and now he found himself following Olivia without really being told where they were heading.

He followed Olivia into a vehicle and was now travelling with just her in the car. The silence inside was uncomfortable, and it didn’t take long before Marcus felt the need to speak up. There were too many unanswered questions running through his head.

“What did you mean earlier when you said I can’t see Gary?” Marcus asked. “Is it because he’s busy or away, or did he get hurt in the fight?”

Even Marcus had heard that the Howlers were the victors in the clash between the two packs. That alone had surprised him, considering the strength of the opponents involved, but he also knew that no battle like that ended without damage. Someone always paid the price.

“It’s not that,” Olivia replied, keeping her eyes on the road. “The situation is rather complicated. Things will be clearer once you meet the others and we talk about everything that needs to be done.”

Marcus frowned but didn’t press further. If there was one thing he had learned while dealing with powerful groups, it was that forcing answers early rarely worked in his favour.

Eventually, the vehicle slowed as they approached a large gate. Beyond it stood a rather large manor, its presence dominating the area around it. Marcus leaned forward slightly, looking through the window as the gates opened.

“That’s the Howlers’ manor?” Marcus asked.

“It is,” Olivia answered.

Although the location had already been attacked once, from what they knew about Unzoku, as long as they were Werewolves, it was likely that he would be able to track them down regardless of where they hid. Still, the manor offered something the old meeting spots couldn’t.

Compared to the Wolf’s Pool Club they had used before, the manor was a far better hideout. It was a place strictly for Howler members, and there was another reason it had become their main base. With the sheer number of people that needed to meet regularly, the manor simply made more sense. It provided space, security, and control.

As Marcus stepped out of the vehicle and looked at the large front entrance, a smile formed on his face.

“This is more what I was expecting when coming to meet one of the Kings,” Marcus said, giving Olivia a thumbs up. “I guess you really did take me to the right place.”

“If you keep that thumb up and smile like that, I’ll break it,” Olivia replied flatly. “I still don’t know if you’re really friend or foe. A part of me is hoping it’s foe, so the two of us can fight a bit.”

Marcus gave a nervous smile, which quickly faded. Although he was considered one of the Kings himself and worked mainly in the Underworld, he didn’t exactly consider his group a gang. Still, he knew better than to underestimate Olivia, especially after everything he had seen.

They entered through the front door, passing the grand entrance and moving into the large living and dining area. The glass windows at the back revealed part of the grounds outside, but Marcus’s attention was quickly drawn to the people already inside.

He recognised most of them from the party. Xin was there, along with Marie, Austin, and Innu, making up the majority of the core members. However, there were others present that he hadn’t expected to see at all.

“Luzen…?” Marcus said, stopping in place. “You’re here? I thought you were dead. And Slit, you’re here as well? I thought you would have definitely died.”

“What does that mean?” Slit said, his arms folded as he glared at Marcus.

“I’m surprised to see you here as well,” another voice said, having just stepped away from the fridge.

Marcus turned his head and saw Galark, the bookkeeper for the Lupus group, casually holding a drink as if nothing was out of the ordinary.

Here in the room, standing alongside the Howlers, were key members of the Lupus Pack. They were alive and, more importantly, not restrained in any shape or form. That alone told Marcus that something significant had happened while he was gone.

“I’m going to need some explaining,” Marcus said. “What exactly happened here?”

Since Lupus and his group had confirmed that Marcus was indeed someone from the Dark Guild, there was now a level of trust between them. From Xin’s point of view, at least, Marcus was being treated as an ally. It was obvious from the way everyone spoke freely in front of him.

They began to explain how the fight had unfolded between the packs and how both Alphas had disappeared during the chaos. Marcus listened carefully, piecing together the story as it was laid out in front of him.

They went on to explain how the two groups had decided it was best to work together for the time being. Since they were now all under the Howlers Pack, this was the only way trust could be maintained. Moving together, rather than separately, reduced the risk of betrayal.

“That’s a crazy story,” Marcus said after hearing everything. “Now I understand why you said I couldn’t meet with the three of them. To be honest, I found the whole thing strange from the start.

“Lupus told me he had decided he wasn’t going to attack the Howlers, and then when I heard he was suddenly on the move, I knew something was off.

“It’s quite possible that the whole thing was a plan to get them into the situation they’re in now and make them disappear.

“Or,” Marcus continued, his expression turning serious, “there’s also a chance that this is related to what’s happening to me.”

The room fell silent as everyone turned their attention to him.

“I have some news I need to tell you all,” Marcus said.
