MWS Chapter

Gary and Kai were still in the middle of settling in now that they had gotten back. Both of them had practically moved out of their regular homes and now were living in the Howlers manor. It wasn’t something that had been officially announced or discussed in depth, it had just sort of happened naturally. With everything that was going on, being in one place together simply made more sense.

Which turned out a lot of the others were doing the same. There were even those that would just come by every now and again to use the training facilities or maybe the swimming pool. The manor had slowly turned into more than just a home, it was becoming a central hub for the pack, somewhere they could gather, train, and keep an eye on each other without having to constantly send messages back and forth.

It was also just a general good meeting spot for everyone to be in. For Gary, he was enjoying a warm shower, food delivery that came to you as soon as you wanted, and he had even found the time to watch a movie or two at home with Xin. Even if the others were also present with them at the time.

Although they did enjoy it, they still couldn’t fully enjoy it due to all the thoughts in the back of their head. No matter how relaxed the environment was, no matter how comfortable the manor felt, there was always the reminder that something bigger was happening outside of these walls. The attacks, the strange creatures, Unzoku, and whatever plan was unfolding behind the scenes.

During that time, Gary had even called out the others, because he had planned to try and teach every core member the power of Qi. He had learnt it partially already before he had left, but realised the amazing things it could do, and remembered the lessons he went through with the Knights.

Now, he could pass them on to Innu and the others as well. If they were going to face stronger enemies, then relying only on their base abilities wouldn’t be enough. Qi had changed the way he fought, and if they could grasp even a fraction of it, it would increase their survivability.

“You know Gary, you really suck at explaining stuff.” Innu said. “Like you’re lucky I can kinda interpret it, but I feel like Kai would have been better at this.”

Currently, Xin, Marie, Innu, Austin, Olivia and Park were outside all training along with Gary. They were spaced out across the open training ground, some attempting to focus their energy, others trying to replicate the coating of Qi that Gary had demonstrated.

After teaching them, they could pass it down to the others, if there was time. The idea was to strengthen the core first, then allow the knowledge to spread naturally through the rest of the group.

“But you know this coating of Qi I think will end up being really useful if I can control it properly.” Innu said. “Using both at the same time, it should make my weapons super strong right, and maybe I could even slice one of those things in a single throw.”

Gary nodded slightly. The theory was correct. If Innu could combine her throwing accuracy with a properly condensed layer of Qi, then the penetration would be far greater than before. The problem wasn’t the idea, it was control. Qi wasn’t something that responded to brute force, it required focus, and for some of them that would take longer.

As for why Kai wasn’t with them, that was because he had been rather busy. When the group took a break from the practice and headed back inside enjoying some ordered food on the large kitchen table, the relaxed atmosphere returned briefly.

Kai had come out from the office.

“It’s good that you are all in one place, I have some things to inform you all about.” Kai stated.

“You got some information.” Marie asked.

“I got something.” Kai replied. “But take of it what you will. Our groups have reported around the country, spotting of Wolf like Zombie creatures. Their description match what you guys ran into.

“It’s not just limited to one city, they’re popping up everywhere, and from the reports they’re killing citizens continuously.”

The mood shifted instantly.

“Damn it.” Park said. “It’s like we thought then right, they’re trying to blame this whole thing on us to get us into trouble.

“Even if the public don’t think it’s us the vampires definitely are.”

“Right.” Kai said. “We have someone who doesn’t care how many deadly Werewolves he makes, it’s not like Lupus and his Pack. He also doesn’t care if he gets the blame for this because it will all be pinned on us.

“Honestly, it might be the best time for Unzoku to have done this. Before the King’s power were strong. Even if Unzoku tried to make these Zombie Werewolves, they would have been dealt with easier.

“But now with them gone, Unzoku has free reign, and the only ones that can stop him are us or the vampires.”

Gary leaned back slightly in his chair, thinking through the situation. If Unzoku was spreading these creatures across multiple cities, then this wasn’t just chaos, it was deliberate escalation.

“Should we try and meet with the vampires?” Marie asked. “Gary talked with their king before, we have a contact with Blackjack right, we can then try explain all of this maybe they will understand.”

“The maybe is the issue here.” Kai replied. “And after our last trip with them as the Altered hunters I’m not too keen on trusting them fully, but that is an option.

“But before that I have something else….” Kai paused for a second.

“What did you want to say?” Xin asked.

“It could be my imagination.” Kai replied. “But when asking our allies what was happening, it seems that the Altereds might be getting targeted as well. There has been a lot of Altered deaths.

“Now it could just be a coincidence, and the Werewolves are killing everything running into Altereds, but the number just seemed rather high.”

Gary felt his jaw tighten slightly at that. If Altereds were being specifically targeted, then this wasn’t random hunger.

“And… originally, I wanted to get in touch with the Strike force, maybe start a team to get rid of these Glutton werewolves. Rather than telling the vampires this isn’t our fault we can even show them by fighting against whatever these things are.

“But at the moment, I can’t get in touch with Midwak.”
