The menacing size, and image of Unzoku was just as Midwak thought, and his presence remained unmatched.Even standing there now, seeing him in full, it was clear this wasn’t just another Alpha. This wasn’t like facing Lupus, or any rival pack leader. Just from looking at him it almost felt like, Midwak was staring at an entirely different being.
One that was not part of the mortal world where he stood on.
There was something unnatural about the air around him. It felt heavier, as if the world itself was bending slightly under his existence. Even the sound of the river behind them seemed quieter.
But his mind was strong, regardless of what his body wanted him to do.
There was a faint pressure pressing down on him. A deep instinct telling him to retreat… kneel down… lower his gaze.
Midwak wasn’t going to do any of that.
There was now only one person that he would be willing to kneel down to.
“I’m guessing you’re the one behind those ugly fucks that have been going around the city, causing mayhem, eating every person in sight?” Midwak asked.
Unzoku clapped and as he did the air around vibrated making a rather loud sound that rung out, echoing beneath the bridge. It wasn’t just a clap. It was force. It was power contained in something simple.
Showing the strength he had in his hands.
“Why are you asking a question to such an obvious answer?” Unzoku asked. “Aren’t you more curious as to why, I have come to see you?”
Midwak knew about the likely hood of what had happened to Lupus. He had heard from the others how most likely Unzoku was the one that had controlled Lupus.
In a lot of ways it made Midwak think, if this creature, could control Lupus, then even with his strong will could he do something about it?
It was unlikely.
Lupus had been stubborn. Strong minded. Yet even he had fallen.
Was he trying to do the same thing?
Now trying to control Midwak to try and get rid of the Howlers from the inside.
Midwak could feel it again.
That hunger.
The dull ache in his stomach that hadn’t gone away since yesterday.
“Do you even realise what has been happening to you?” Unzoku asked. “A hunger that can’t be satisfied, that’s the first sign.
“Then thoughts start to enter your head. Imaginary scenes play out. That’s the second step.
“Third, those scenes in your head aren’t so imaginary anymore, you start acting on them, and that’s when your body starts to change.
“That’s when you become a Glutton Werewolf.”
Midwak’s eyes narrowed.
“A Glutton Werewolf, is that what that thing was? And everything I’m going through is that because of you… or because I…”
Unzoku started to laugh cutting Midwak off.
The sound wasn’t light or mocking. It was deep and thunderous, bouncing off the concrete.
“I have nothing to do with it.” Unzoku said shaking his head. “You were already halfway there all on your own. Eating everything in sight, having the urge to continue to grow.
“Your mindset was already there. You’re never satisfied, so your body continued to grow. The Glutton Werewolf is the ultimate type of Werewolf.
“As you continue to have this strong desire your body starts to change and warp into this desire.
“Faster healing, more durability, and a body that can do things that shouldn’t even be possible!
“Midwak, this desire of yours to grow, I can help it, and I can make you the strongest Glutton that has ever existed leading this new type of Werewolf!
“You are the type of person that is not meant to be led, but instead is the type of person that is meant to lead!”
Midwak listened.
There was a part of him that felt something stir at those words.
Strongest.
Lead.
A body that could surpass limits.
He thought back to the restaurant. The extra hunger. The way he had devoured that Altered without thinking. The way even walking past the dead woman had sparked a thought.
‘When I walked past that woman as well… I wanted to eat her.’
Unzoku continued to laugh, as he gave a moment for Midwak to also make his decision.
The hunger pulsed again.
“So you’re saying, if I accept your offer, and if I continue going down this path, then I’m going to turn into one of those ugly fucks?” Midwak asked.
“Thanks because you’ve just given me the number one reason why I would never want to become one. I want to be stronger, but there’s always a limit to what I’m willing to give up, and I’m quite handsome ya know?
“I’ve lost my love, and now I need time to make a new one, and no one is loving something as ugly as that, or as ugly as you.”
Unzoku in response snarled at this lifting up his lip showing the bearing large teeth that were almost four times the size of a Werewolf.
The air shook slightly from the growl alone.
“There was an easy way to doing all of this.” Unzoku said. “I wanted for you to choose this path on your own, it would have made things easier.
“Why is it, that things are never so easy for me, are you prepared to do things the hard way.”
Unzoku started to transform just his arms, muscles bulging unnaturally, claws extending further, thicker than any Midwak had seen before.
Midwak felt it then.
The pressure.
The hunger.
The instinct.
For a brief second, the thought crossed his mind.
‘If I just let go…’
But that wasn’t him.
“Hey!” Midwak called out. “Do you have green hair?”
The question had caught Unzoku off guard, his hair was anything but green.
There was a flicker of confusion in those monstrous eyes.
“Then why the F*ck are you trying to tell me what to do!” Midwak said as his whole body transformed, fur bursting out, muscles expanding, claws extending.
He didn’t wait for another word.
He leapt deciding to fight Unzoku.
