Chapter 1765 Gary's Anger

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The others in the group didn’t mind following what Gary had asked, as long as it would quickly lead them to the place they were meant to be.

The only one who was somewhat reluctant about the direct approach was Jin. Although there were others present who had gone up against these corrupted creatures before, like Austin and Innu, Jin possessed a unique perspective. Previously, with the specialized help of the Bree family, Jin had been able to successfully strip away the strange, transformative state these specific Werewolves were stuck in. Through that grueling process, he had realized a frustrating truth: it was completely useless to ask them questions. Their minds were gone, consumed by an unnatural hunger.

So, fighting against them right now was just for the sheer sake of fighting against them. Slaying a few foot soldiers wouldn’t really move their grand investigation ahead in one direction or the other.

Still, Jin logically thought it would be good for everyone, especially the other two Vampire Leaders, to physically know the exact enemy they were dealing with. Furthermore, if they could thin the horde's numbers now, there was less of a chance for the monsters to strike them from behind when they pushed deeper into the city.

Dropping low to the ground, Luzen inhaled sharply, sifting through the layers of decay until he isolated the unmistakable scent of fresh blood nearby. It belonged to someone who had been violently killed very recently.

Surprisingly to the rest of the group, the scent didn't lead them deep into the commercial district, but rather kept them in the current residential area they were already in. It led directly into the massive open courtyard area that was shared by all of the surrounding apartment blocks.

The grisly trail of fresh blood led straight to an open, outdoor concrete staircase, with a dark, disabled elevator shaft sitting right next to it.

“This path leads directly down to the underground car park,” Luzen said.

“Judging by the amount of blood smeared against the concrete walls and the stairs, it looks like they have been dragging quite a few bodies down there,” Marie commented, a shiver running down her spine. “I had thought the entire courtyard area looked to be a bit too bare for how many apartments there are above us. There should have been more bodies in the open.”

“You're right. Maybe when they got full and couldn't eat anymore, they dragged the remaining bodies down here to store them, like some type of communal feeding ground,” Austin commented.

“If this is their den, there could be a lot of them waiting in the dark. So we should all be ready for an ambush as we head in,” Kai warned.

The tense group moved silently down the concrete staircase until they reached a heavy, industrial metallic door. Gary reached out and pushed it open. A loud, grinding creak echoed through the subterranean chamber as the rusted hinges gave way.

All of them were suddenly staring straight into a pitch-black abyss. The lack of light was perfectly fine for both the Vampires and the Werewolves, as their supernatural eyes instantly adjusted, allowing them to see clearly in the dark.

While it was significantly harder for Austin and Innu to pierce the shadows, their lack of vision was immediately compensated by what they heard. Instantly, the horrifying sound of guttural, wet growling echoed off the concrete pillars.

Then came the frantic sound of heavy footsteps. Claws scraped against the asphalt as multiple creatures rushed forward, charging blindly toward their location at the entrance.

“There sounds to be quite a few of them down here... at least ten rushing us right now?” Haylock said, his tone casual, almost bored, as he accurately counted the approaching footfalls.

“Well, that should be perfectly fine, right? It means most of us only need to deal with one or two each,” Rowa commented, a cruel smirk playing on his lips. “Just remember to keep one of them alive. I want to see if I can do something with it.”

While everyone else was casually discussing their combat assignments, it was Gary who reacted with explosive violence. He didn't even wait for the creatures to reach the light. He ran straight ahead into the darkness. He hadn’t fully transformed yet, but his heightened vision easily picked out two of the grotesque Glutton Werewolves that had jumped ahead of the pack.

The monsters quickly stretched out their elongated, mutated arms to try and slash Gary to ribbons. But Gary didn't flinch. He quickly stepped from side to side, his footwork a blur, avoiding the lethal claws completely before pushing off his own feet.

Channeling his Qi directly into his step, when he pushed off the ground, the concrete cracked beneath his sneakers. He closed the distance instantly, moving faster than the Gluttons could even comprehend.

He stretched out both of his arms, his hands clamping down like iron vises right around the thick necks of the two Werewolves. Using their own forward momentum against them, Gary violently slammed both of the creatures directly into the hard asphalt.

BOOM!

With each step of the way, even though he wasn’t transformed into his towering beast form, he had been circulating his Qi and using quite a bit of his internal strength. The impact was so severe that the whole underground parking lot physically shook, dust falling from the ceiling.

“What are you things?! What have you done?!” Gary roared, his voice echoing through the cavernous space.

He was seething with an uncontainable anger. As he pinned the two struggling monsters to the floor, thick, coarse fur was aggressively starting to grow from his arms and along the sides of his face. His Alpha aura flared wildly in the dark.

The Vampires standing at the doorway were relatively surprised. It wasn’t just that Gary was incredibly fast when acting in his human form, but it was the sheer fact that he had acted first, throwing himself into danger without a second thought.

Was it because the Vampire Leaders were there, and Gary was just trying to put on a macho show of strength to intimidate them? To maybe prove they weren't the ones behind all of this?

No. At least, Jin could tell the absolute truth.

‘The way he struck them... his erratic, violent actions... I can sense it clearly. His heart rate has skyrocketed,’Jin observed silently, his eyes tracking the young Alpha. ‘That isn't a performance. That’s pure, unadulterated, real anger behind those actions.’

As Gary held the monsters down, his eyes adjusted to the deeper shadows in the center of the underground car park. There, illuminated by a single flickering emergency light, was a pile of human bodies. They had been tossed on top of each other like discarded garbage, left in the exact same mutilated, half-eaten condition that the others they had seen in the shops above were in.

Seeing the entire gruesome site was making Gary feel physically sick to his stomach. There was a big, fundamental difference in ideology between Lupus’s old group, the ancient Vampires, and those standing in the Howlers.

The ancient beings had always lived the detached life of a pure Werewolf or that of a semi immortal Vampire, viewing humans as lesser beings or simply food. But for Gary and his core group, they were kids who had grown up in these streets. They were ordinary humans whose lives had been drastically changed by circumstances out of their control.

They possessed a far deeper, lingering connection to human lives than any of the supernatural lords ever could. To Gary, those weren't just bodies; they were innocent people.

“If you won’t speak, then I’ll make it so you can never kill anyone again!” Gary snarled.

His arms fully transformed, bulging with monstrous, fur-covered muscle. He tensed his grip with overwhelming power, ruthlessly crushing both of their thick necks on the spot. The sickening snap of bone echoed loudly. Dropping the two lifeless corpses, Gary looked up, his glowing eyes locking onto the rest of the charging Glutton Werewolves.

“We can’t let the young pup completely show us up now, can we? I suppose we should join the fight as well!” Haylock said with a refined chuckle.

He gracefully stepped into the fray, effortlessly avoiding a leaping Werewolf’s wild strike that came from his blind side.

And then, in almost a split second, thin, glowing red strings made of highly pressurized blood erupted from Haylock's fingertips. The razor-sharp strings whipped through the air, perfectly surrounding the airborne Werewolf and wrapping tightly around all of its limbs. With a simple, elegant flex of his hands, Haylock pulled the strings taut. The beast's limbs were instantly torn and pulled completely apart in a shower of gore, the pieces dropping wetly to the floor.

“Remember to keep one alive, Haylock,” Rowa chided lazily from the back, not even bothering to draw his hands from his pockets as the slaughter commenced. “And try not to show them everything we can do.”
