The heavy, rapid sounds the group could clearly hear moving across the manor’s rooftop were causing blaring alarm bells to instantly ring through their heads. It definitely wasn’t a friendly patrol. It wasn’t as if the regular, human Howler guards, or even the fully initiated Werewolves in their ranks, would ever usually use the slanted rooftop as a practical way of entry into their own headquarters.
They deeply feared what it might be, and mere moments later, they horrifyingly learned exactly what had breached their perimeter.
The loudest, most violent crashing noise was heard directly above them. And then, a split second later, violently breaking straight through the reinforced roof tiles and the heavy wooden floorboards of the second story, a massive figure dropped down right in front of the three of them in the dining hall.
Through the choking cloud of dust and the mess of falling debris that came crashing down with it, they finally saw it clearly. It was one of the mutated, Glutton Werewolves that had been giving the entire country so much bloody trouble so far.
Xin acted incredibly fast. Without a moment of hesitation, she leapt aggressively forward. As her feet left the ground, she seamlessly and violently transformed in mid-air. Her muscles expanded, her clothing stretched, and her large, heavily furred body bashed directly into the disoriented Glutton Werewolf, hitting it like a freight train and forcefully pinning the monster to the ruined floorboards.
She wasted absolutely no time. Straddling the beast, she raised her massive, clawed fist high into the air and started to rapidly gather the raw, condensed power of her Qi deep within her knuckles.
This specific, explosive technique was exactly what she had been rigorously training for every single day. Even before the main strike team had left the manor, she and Gary had been aggressively sparring, learning exactly how to properly channel and use their Qi to amplify their physical strikes.
Her heavy, Qi-infused fist pounded ruthlessly into the mutated Werewolf's snarling face. The sheer kinetic impact of the strike was so impossibly heavy that it violently cracked the solid oak floorboards in the ground beneath the monster's skull.
Not giving the beast a microsecond to recover or regenerate, Xin then lifted both of her massive hands high up, locked her fingers together in a double-axe handle, and slammed them down directly onto its face with all of her supernatural weight.
With a sickening, heavy CRUNCH, she had completely crushed its skull and killed the monster on the spot.
She breathed heavily, pulling her bloodied hands back. She intimately knew exactly how biologically tough and resilient these corrupted things were.
As she quickly went to turn around to check on the others, that’s exactly when she heard the shattering of glass. She could see that two more Glutton Werewolves had just violently jumped and broken right through the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the dining room. Simultaneously, another two horrifying figures were aggressively crawling down through the jagged hole which had just been created in the ceiling from up above.
They were surrounded.
As the two beasts from the ceiling leapt down toward her, Xin managed to instantly throw out her heavy fist. She caught one of the falling monsters perfectly in the jaw, violently whacking it in the face and sending its body flying backward. The beast crashed brutally into the marble kitchen counter, shattering the stone and completely breaking apart a large section of the luxurious kitchen.
But the other falling monster was faster. It had managed to slip past her guard, tightly wrapping its elongated, mutated arms entirely around Xin’s thick waist from behind. With terrifying leverage, it pulled her backward, violently slamming its heavy, clawed legs directly into her spine in an attempt to break her back.
The raw, physical strength of these mutated Werewolves was absolutely no joke, and their combat versatility was terrifying. But Xin wasn’t weak by any means. Snarling through the pain, she forcefully shifted her weight, brutally elbowed the beast in the ribs to break its grip, and aggressively turned around, landing firmly on the ground, completely ready to deal with the two monsters that had targeted her.
At the exact same time across the room, Olivia and Marcus were desperately dealing with the two Gluttons that had just violently entered through the broken glass windows.
Olivia had been fiercely fighting her opponent fully transformed. She was desperately trying to deal with the monster's incredibly tricky, elongated body proportions, as well as its superior, unnatural raw strength. The beast was wildly swinging its long limbs, trying to catch her.
However, utilizing her superior agility and her smaller, leaner Werewolf form, Olivia was eventually able to slip inside the monster's wild guard and get the better of it. After suffering a few deep, painful scratches along her ribs, she managed to violently drive her elongated, razor-sharp nails straight up and through the back of the beast's head, instantly severing its brain stem.
Meanwhile, Marcus had utilized a completely different, much more elegant approach. He had effortlessly sliced his opponent's head completely off its shoulders. When the monster had originally lunged at him, Marcus had seamlessly used his specialized Lightning powers. He had channeled the raw electricity outward to temporarily paralyze and stop the beast's massive body from physically reaching him mid-leap.
And then, channeling that exact same volatile lightning directly into the conductive steel of his blade, he was able to swing with blinding speed and effortlessly cut straight through the monster's thick neck muscle and bone.
The headless body slumped to the floor.
“I’m a lot better with an actual, physical weapon in my hand,” Marcus claimed, casually flicking the black blood off his glowing sword. “And because I’m currently highly worried about various ancient beings who are actively hunting after my life, I have decided to always strictly travel with a sword this time around. It makes pest control a lot easier.”
By the time Marcus sheathed his blade, Xin had also finished violently dealing with the other two monsters in the kitchen. She stood panting heavily amidst the absolute wreckage. She had managed to make quite a catastrophic mess of the cooking area, as nearly every single expensive appliance and marble countertop was utterly destroyed in the otherwise pristine manor.
“Crap,” Olivia hissed through her teeth.
She transformed back into her human self, wincing in pain as she looked down at her bleeding arm. “I’m... I’m not going to biologically turn into one of those mindless things now, am I?”
Specifically, she was nervously looking at the deep, jagged cut the monster's claws had left on her bicep, terrified of a infection.
“I really don’t think we can practically worry about that specific possibility right now, Olivia,” Xin said, shifting back to her human form and wiping blood from her chin. She looked around the ruined dining room. “There were quite a lot of them that just highly coordinated an attack on this heavily fortified manor. But... based on the sheer volume of emergency notifications that were rapidly coming in right before they dropped in on us...”
Xin walked over to the table and picked up her buzzing phone.
“I think the crazy Werewolves are systematically attacking the entire damn city right now.”
Holding firmly onto her phone, her fingers flying across the screen, Xin quickly recorded and sent a massive, encrypted voice message to all active members of the Howlers, the specific street squads, and the territory captains, ordering them to immediately pass it on to every single gang member and civilian they could reach.
“Attention! Slough is officially under a massive, coordinated attack by the crazy, mutated Werewolf creatures! Be aware of your surroundings immediately! All those that can physically fight, do absolutely whatever you can to hold the line and get rid of them! Protect the civilians! If we don’t all stand up and fight right now... the whole city of Slough might be completely lost tonight!”
