Chapter 4: A Day in Konoha

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

It was a bright morning in Konoha. The sun bathed the village in golden light, casting long shadows over the rooftops and streets. Birds chirped, shopkeepers opened their stalls, and children raced to the academy. It was a typical day, peaceful and calm – except for one thing.

“Naruto!!”

Iruka Umino’s voice echoed through the bustling streets, a mix of exasperation and frustration. He stood in the middle of a market square, arms crossed, glaring at a very familiar sight: a young Naruto Uzumaki covered in paint from head to toe, laughing mischievously.

“What the heck were you thinking?” Iruka asked, though he already knew the answer.

Naruto stood proudly on a makeshift platform, a bucket of red paint in one hand, a wide grin plastered on his face. Behind him, the Hokage Monument bore the newest addition to Naruto’s endless pranks—giant, brightly colored faces of the Hokage covered in ridiculous drawings. The First Hokage had a mustache, the Second had huge googly eyes, and the Third… well, the Third was painted to look like a clown.

“I’m gonna be Hokage one day, so I figured they could use a little upgrade!” Naruto declared, placing his hands on his hips.

The villagers, who had initially been upset, now watched with a mix of amusement and resignation. They were used to Naruto’s antics by now, though that didn’t make the clean-up any easier.

Iruka sighed deeply, massaging his temples. “Naruto, do you have any idea how much trouble you’re in?”

Naruto blinked innocently. “Trouble? Me? Come on, Iruka-sensei, it’s just a bit of paint. Besides, it makes them look way cooler, don’t you think?”

Iruka rubbed his forehead, resisting the urge to yell again. As Naruto’s academy teacher, he had become all too familiar with these situations. No matter how many times he tried to scold or reason with Naruto, the boy’s energy was boundless, and his desire for attention never ceased.

Before Iruka could respond, another familiar voice interrupted.

“Oi, Naruto, what did you do this time?”

Sakura Haruno and Sasuke Uchiha, Naruto’s teammates from the academy, appeared at the edge of the square. Sakura had her hands on her hips, glaring at Naruto, while Sasuke gave him his usual uninterested glance, though a hint of a smirk played on his lips.

“Oh, you know, just making the Hokage Monument look better,” Naruto said with a grin, as if his act of defacing the village’s most important landmark was completely normal.

Sakura’s face turned red, her temper flaring. “You idiot! Do you ever think before you do something?”

Naruto scratched the back of his head, laughing nervously. “I mean, sure, I think sometimes...”

Before Sakura could land a punch on him, Iruka stepped in between them, still looking weary. “Alright, that’s enough. Naruto, you’re going to clean this up. And no more pranks for the rest of the week. Got it?”

Naruto’s face fell, his shoulders slumping. “Aww, come on, Iruka-sensei! I was just trying to—”

“No excuses,” Iruka cut him off, pointing sternly at the monument. “Get to work.”

Grumbling under his breath, Naruto hopped down from his platform and grabbed a rag from one of the nearby villagers. As he began to scrub the paint from the stone faces, he shot a glare in Sasuke’s direction, who was watching him with an air of amusement.

“What are you looking at, Sasuke?” Naruto grumbled. “You think you’re so much better?”

Sasuke shrugged. “I didn’t get caught.”

Naruto narrowed his eyes. “One day, I’m gonna be Hokage, and then you’ll have to listen to me!”

Sasuke raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. “Good luck with that.”

Sakura rolled her eyes and sighed. “You two are impossible.”

Despite the banter, there was a strange sense of camaraderie between them. Even though Naruto constantly tried to one-up Sasuke, and Sasuke barely gave him the time of day, the rivalry between them drove both of them to improve. Deep down, even Naruto knew that. But today wasn’t a day for serious training or ninja battles—today was just another day in the life of the future Hokage, trying to make his mark on the village in the only way he knew how.

As Naruto scrubbed furiously, Iruka watched with a small smile on his face. For all of Naruto’s troublemaking, Iruka saw the potential in him. He knew that beneath the pranks and bravado was a boy who longed for recognition, someone who just wanted to belong.

After a while, Naruto glanced up at the monument and let out a loud sigh. “Man, cleaning this is way harder than painting it!”

Sakura huffed. “That’s because you went overboard, as usual. Maybe next time you’ll think twice before pulling a stunt like this.”

Naruto flashed her a grin. “Where’s the fun in that?”

Sasuke shook his head but said nothing. He leaned against a nearby tree, watching Naruto struggle with the cleaning, secretly enjoying the sight of his rival paying the price for his antics.

As the day wore on, Naruto eventually managed to remove most of the paint, though the Hokage Monument would never be quite the same again. The sun had begun to set by the time he finished, casting an orange glow over the village.

Wiping sweat from his brow, Naruto stood back to admire his handiwork—or, in this case, the lack of it. “There! All clean. Happy now, Iruka-sensei?”

Iruka crossed his arms, giving Naruto a stern look. “I’ll be happy when you go a full week without causing any trouble.”

Naruto grinned sheepishly. “I can’t make any promises.”

Iruka sighed but couldn’t suppress a small smile. “Just go home and get some rest, Naruto.”

As Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke made their way back toward the village center, the familiar sights and sounds of Konoha surrounded them. It was a place full of life, where shinobi and civilians lived side by side. For Naruto, it was home—a home that he wanted to protect, even if he didn’t always show it in the most conventional ways.

As they walked, Naruto turned to his teammates, a mischievous glint returning to his eyes. “So, who’s up for some ramen? My treat!”

Sakura groaned. “How is it your treat if you don’t even have any money?”

Naruto laughed, rubbing the back of his head. “Details, details…”

Sasuke, as always, said nothing, but the faintest hint of a smile crossed his lips as they headed toward Ichiraku Ramen.

Another day in Konoha. Another adventure for the future Hokage.
