Chapter 49 The Lost Village of Kagegakure (Part 2)

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The world around Naruto and his team disappeared into a void of complete darkness. For a moment, it felt as though they were floating in an endless abyss, weightless and disoriented. Naruto instinctively reached for Hinata’s hand, feeling the familiar warmth of her presence in the cold, consuming blackness.

Then, without warning, they landed—hard.

Naruto groaned as he pushed himself up, brushing off the dirt from his orange jacket. "What just happened?" he muttered, glancing around.

The team was no longer in the eerie village square. Instead, they found themselves in a vast underground chamber. The walls were carved from stone, adorned with strange runes and symbols that glowed faintly, illuminating the dim space around them. There was no sign of Kuroyami or any of the villagers.

"Is everyone okay?" Sakura asked, immediately checking on Hinata and Shikamaru.

"I’m fine," Hinata responded softly, though her pale eyes were already scanning the room with her Byakugan. "There are no immediate threats, but this place is… strange. I’ve never seen chakra signatures like these before."

Sasuke stood a few feet away, his Rinnegan analyzing the runes etched into the walls. "This is a trap. They’ve separated us from the outside world."

"Typical," Shikamaru muttered, hands in his pockets as he surveyed their surroundings. "Looks like we’ll have to find a way out the hard way."

Naruto clenched his fists, a determined look in his eyes. "Whatever this is, we’ll break through it together. We’ve been through worse." He looked at Sasuke, who nodded in silent agreement.

But as they began to explore the underground chamber, it quickly became clear that this wasn’t just a simple trap. The walls pulsed with energy, and the atmosphere grew heavier with each step. The strange symbols began to glow brighter, casting eerie shadows across the room. It was as if the village itself was alive, watching their every move.

Suddenly, the ground trembled beneath their feet, and a section of the wall collapsed, revealing a hidden corridor. Without hesitation, Naruto led the way down the narrow passage, his heart racing with both anticipation and dread.

As they ventured deeper into the labyrinth, they came across statues of long-forgotten warriors, their faces twisted in agony, and their bodies frozen in battle poses. Some of them resembled shinobi, but others were creatures Naruto had never seen before—beasts with multiple heads, wings, and claws as sharp as blades.

"What is this place?" Sakura whispered, her voice barely audible. "It feels like… a tomb."

"Or a prison," Sasuke added, his expression grim. "This village has been hiding something for a long time."

As they continued down the corridor, they came to a large chamber at the heart of the underground complex. In the center of the room stood a massive stone pedestal, upon which rested an ancient scroll. The scroll was bound in chains, glowing with the same runes they had seen on the walls.

"This must be what they were hiding," Shikamaru said, stepping closer to examine it. "But why go to such lengths to keep it sealed?"

Naruto’s instincts told him not to touch it, but curiosity got the better of him. "Only one way to find out," he said, reaching for the scroll.

Just as his fingers brushed the surface of the ancient parchment, the room shook violently. The chains around the scroll snapped, and the runes flared to life, filling the chamber with blinding light.

"Naruto, get back!" Hinata shouted, activating her Byakugan as the ground beneath them began to crack.

Too late. The scroll unfurled itself in midair, its contents revealed to them all.

A deep, guttural voice echoed through the chamber, sending chills down their spines. It spoke in an ancient language, but Naruto could understand the intent: "You have unleashed what should never be set free."

The light from the scroll coalesced into a swirling vortex of dark energy. From it, a figure emerged—a being cloaked in shadow, its eyes glowing with malevolent power. It hovered above the pedestal, its presence overwhelming, as if the very air around it was suffocating.

"You have come for answers, Hokage," the figure spoke, its voice like a thousand whispers overlapping. "But you are not prepared for the truth. The darkness that lies ahead is not one you can fight with strength alone."

Naruto gritted his teeth, raising his fists. "I don’t care what you are! If you’re threatening my village, I’ll take you down, no matter what!"

The shadowed being chuckled, the sound echoing through the chamber like a haunting melody. "Your resolve is strong, but your understanding is weak. You have been deceived."

Sasuke stepped forward, his Sharingan spinning as he tried to analyze the entity. "Deceived by who?"

"By those who claim to be your allies. The Hidden Villages are built on lies, and you are all pawns in a game that has been played for centuries."

"What are you talking about?" Sakura demanded, her fists clenched as chakra swirled around her. "What lies?"

The figure descended from the air, its glowing eyes fixating on Naruto. "Kagegakure is not your enemy. We are what remains of the true guardians of the world. The great nations, the Five Kage—they have forgotten their purpose. But we have not. The darkness that is coming… only we can stop it."

Naruto stared at the being, torn between confusion and determination. "If you’re here to help, then why the games? Why hide yourself? Why trap us?"

The figure’s form shifted, becoming less menacing, almost human-like. "Because the truth is not something that can be given freely. It must be earned. And you, Hokage, must prove that you are worthy."

Before Naruto could respond, the figure disappeared into the swirling vortex, and the chamber began to collapse around them.

"Run!" Sasuke shouted, his eyes locking onto the nearest exit.

The team bolted toward the corridor they had come from, barely avoiding the falling debris. Dust and stone rained down as the entire underground structure shook, threatening to bury them alive.

As they reached the surface, gasping for breath, they found the village of Kagegakure eerily silent. The mist had thickened, and the shadows seemed to twist and writhe with a life of their own. There was no sign of the villagers or Kuroyami.

"What just happened?" Shikamaru asked, catching his breath.

Naruto looked at the ruins of the underground chamber they had just escaped from, his mind racing. "I don’t know. But whatever that thing was, it’s not over."

Hinata stepped forward, her Byakugan scanning the area. "Naruto… the village, it’s disappearing."

They turned to see the structures of Kagegakure slowly dissolving into the mist, as though the village itself was fading from existence.

Sasuke narrowed his eyes. "This place was never real. It was a projection, a test."

"A test for what?" Sakura asked.

Naruto’s expression hardened. "For us. For what’s coming. Whatever this darkness is, we need to be ready."

The team stood in silence as the last remnants of the village vanished before their eyes. The weight of what they had just experienced hung heavy in the air.

"We’ll head back to Konoha," Naruto said, his voice steady. "And we’ll prepare for whatever comes next. We’ll find the truth, no matter what it takes."

As they began the journey home, the shadows of Kagegakure lingered in their minds. The Hidden Village of Shadows may have disappeared, but the darkness it warned of was still out there, waiting.
