Chapter 51 The Trials of the Forgotten Shrine: 2 Into the Abyss

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

As Naruto, Hinata, Sai, and Yamato ascended the stone steps of the Forgotten Shrine, the oppressive weight of the ancient structure bore down on them. The air grew thicker, the fog denser, and the strange whispers intensified, swirling around their heads like ghostly hands tugging at their thoughts.

The entrance loomed before them—an archway carved from black stone, its edges worn by time but still imposing. Strange symbols, unreadable even to Hinata’s Byakugan, lined the arch, pulsating faintly with an eerie glow. Yamato stepped forward cautiously, running his fingers over the markings.

“These symbols are unlike anything I’ve ever seen,” Yamato muttered, his brow furrowing. “They don’t match any known language or script in the Land of Fire.”

Naruto scowled. “Doesn’t matter. We’re here to figure out what’s going on and stop it.”

Hinata, who had been silent for most of the journey, spoke softly. “Naruto… we need to be careful. Whatever power is sealed here, it’s older than anything we’ve encountered. I can feel it.”

Sai, ever calm, nodded. “We should proceed with caution. The chakra inside the shrine is… unsettling.”

Naruto exhaled, trying to shake off the foreboding sense of dread that gnawed at him. “Right. Stay close and be ready for anything.”

With that, they stepped through the archway and into the shrine’s interior.

The passage inside was dark and narrow, the walls lined with more of the strange symbols that seemed to hum with latent power. Their footsteps echoed eerily off the stone floor as they ventured deeper into the shrine. The whispers that had surrounded them outside were now replaced by a low, droning hum that seemed to vibrate through their bones.

Hinata activated her Byakugan again, scanning the walls and the path ahead. “There are traps everywhere… ancient ones. Some are chakra-based, others are mechanical.”

Yamato nodded and took the lead, using his wood release to manipulate the floor and disable some of the more obvious traps. Sai followed closely, creating ink creatures to scout ahead, their soft footsteps silent against the cold stone.

The group descended further, the air growing colder and the darkness more oppressive with each step. After what felt like hours, they reached a large chamber, its ceiling lost in shadow. In the center of the room stood a massive stone altar, surrounded by strange, shimmering light.

Naruto stepped forward cautiously, his eyes narrowing. “This must be it.”

Yamato moved to examine the altar, but before he could reach it, the ground beneath them began to tremble. The symbols on the walls flared to life, casting the entire chamber in a sickly green glow.

From the shadows around them, the cloaked figures reappeared, their eerie presence sending a chill through the air. They moved with unnatural grace, their faces still obscured by the masks they wore.

“You should not have come here,” one of the figures intoned, their voice echoing unnaturally. “This place is sacred, and its power is not for the likes of you to wield.”

Naruto stepped forward, his fists clenched. “We’re here to stop whatever it is you’re planning. I won’t let you hurt the people of my village.”

The figure chuckled darkly. “Hurt them? No, Hokage. We are not the ones who will harm them. The power sealed within this shrine… it will reshape the world. And you… you will be its first victim.”

Before Naruto could respond, the chamber erupted in chaos. The figures began to move, their hands forming seals too fast to track. The air crackled with energy, and the ground split open as dark tendrils of chakra erupted from the floor, reaching out toward the team.

“Move!” Yamato shouted, using his wood release to form a barrier around them.

Naruto leapt into action, summoning a Rasengan and charging at one of the cloaked figures. His attack was met with a wall of chakra, sending him skidding backward.

“These guys are tougher than they look,” Naruto grunted, regaining his footing.

Hinata, meanwhile, was engaged with another of the figures, her gentle fist technique clashing with their strange, fluid movements. Sai’s ink creatures swarmed the room, distracting the enemies while Yamato used his wood release to try and contain the dark energy spreading through the chamber.

But it was no use. The power within the shrine was awakening, and the team was quickly being overwhelmed.

Just as it seemed the tide was turning against them, the ground shook violently, and a deafening roar filled the chamber. From beneath the altar, a massive figure began to emerge—an ancient, grotesque creature made of stone and chakra, its eyes glowing with an unnatural light.

Naruto’s heart skipped a beat. “What the hell is that?!”

The cloaked figures began to chant in unison, their voices melding with the whispers that filled the air. The creature, now fully formed, stood towering above them, its massive arms raised as it prepared to strike.

“We cannot let it awaken fully!” Yamato shouted, his voice filled with urgency.

Naruto nodded, determination flooding his senses. “Right! We’ll take it down, here and now!”

With a roar, Naruto summoned the full power of Kurama, his chakra cloak flaring to life as he charged at the creature. Hinata, Sai, and Yamato followed suit, launching their own attacks in a desperate attempt to stop the ancient power from escaping the shrine.

But as they fought, it became clear that they were not dealing with an ordinary enemy. The creature was tied to the very fabric of the shrine itself, and every blow they landed only seemed to strengthen it.

Suddenly, the cloaked figures stopped chanting, their attention shifting to Naruto. The leader of the group stepped forward, raising a hand.

“You are strong, Hokage. But you are too late. The power of the shrine cannot be undone. You will fall here, as will your village.”

Naruto gritted his teeth, refusing to back down. “We’ll see about that!”

With a final burst of energy, he and his team unleashed their strongest attacks, the chamber shaking violently as the energy of their combined jutsu collided with the creature.

For a moment, it seemed like they might succeed. The creature let out a monstrous roar, its form flickering as the energy surged through it.

But then, the ground beneath them gave way, and the team was swallowed by darkness.
