Chapter 68 The Silent Revenge of Shisui Uchiha: 1 Whispers in the Night

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The moon hung low in the sky over the Hidden Leaf Village, casting a pale light across the rooftops. The night was quiet, save for the occasional rustle of leaves in the wind. But within the silence, something stirred—a presence, watching from the shadows.

Shisui Uchiha stood on the edge of the village, his Sharingan active as he scanned the darkness. He had been on edge for days now, ever since he had overheard whispers of a plot brewing within the Uchiha Clan. Tensions had been rising between the Uchiha and the village’s leadership, and Shisui feared that war was inevitable.

It wasn’t just the political unrest that troubled him, though. Shisui had always been loyal to both his clan and the village, but the growing hostility within his own family made him question where his loyalties should lie. The clan elders were becoming more radical, speaking openly of rebellion against the Leaf, while the Hokage sought to maintain peace at any cost.

Shisui had long believed that there was another way—a path where the Uchiha could coexist with the village without resorting to violence. But as the days passed, that path seemed to narrow, fading into a distant dream.

Tonight, though, his mind was focused on something far more immediate. Shisui had received an anonymous message earlier in the day, warning him of a secret meeting being held in the depths of the Naka Shrine, the Uchiha’s most sacred place. The message had been brief but clear: plans were being made, and the future of the Uchiha hung in the balance.

He had to find out what was happening.

The Naka Shrine was nestled deep within the Uchiha district, hidden from prying eyes by ancient trees and protective seals. As Shisui approached, he slowed his pace, moving silently through the shadows. His senses were sharp, every sound and movement magnified in the quiet of the night.

He activated his Sharingan, scanning for any signs of chakra. The shrine was heavily guarded, as expected. Several Uchiha shinobi were posted at the entrance, their expressions stern and unreadable. These were not ordinary guards—they were members of the Uchiha Police Force, loyal to the clan and its cause.

Shisui waited, his body tense as he considered his next move. He couldn’t risk being seen, not yet. If the wrong people knew he was here, it could ruin everything.

Carefully, he formed the hand signs for his signature technique—Body Flicker. In an instant, he vanished, moving so quickly that even the sharpest eyes wouldn’t have been able to detect him. He reappeared inside the shrine, deep within its shadowed halls.

The air inside was cool and heavy with the weight of history. Ancient scrolls lined the walls, and the stone floor echoed softly beneath his feet as he moved deeper into the shrine. His heart pounded in his chest, but his face remained calm, focused.

At the far end of the shrine, he could hear voices—low, urgent whispers that carried an edge of desperation.

He pressed himself against the wall, inching closer until he could make out the figures gathered around a stone table. Three men stood there, their faces partially obscured by the dim light of the shrine’s lanterns. Shisui recognized them immediately—Fugaku Uchiha, the clan head, and two other high-ranking Uchiha elders.

They were discussing plans. Plans for a coup.

“This is the only way,” one of the elders said, his voice tight with frustration. “The village council will never give us the respect we deserve. They’ve treated us like outcasts for years, and it’s only getting worse.”

Fugaku’s deep voice followed, calmer but no less resolute. “We’ve waited long enough. The Hokage has left us with no choice. If we don’t act now, the Uchiha will be erased. This is not just about power—it’s about survival.”

Shisui’s stomach twisted as he listened. He had known things were bad, but hearing it laid out like this made the reality even more stark. His own clan—his family—was preparing for open rebellion. And Fugaku, Itachi’s father, was leading the charge.

“There must be another way,” one of the elders said, though his tone lacked conviction. “Is there no possibility for negotiation?”

Fugaku shook his head. “The time for talking is over. We will strike, and we will take control of the village. The Uchiha will no longer live in the shadows.”

Shisui’s mind raced. He had always known Fugaku was a proud man, but to hear him speak of war so casually—it was like hearing a death sentence for the entire village.

He couldn’t let this happen.

Shisui retreated from the shrine as quietly as he had entered, his mind spinning with what he had just overheard. His first instinct was to find Itachi—his best friend, his closest ally in the fight to prevent a civil war. If anyone could help him stop this madness, it was Itachi.

But even as he made his way back toward the village, a seed of doubt took root in his mind. Itachi was loyal to the Leaf, but he was also loyal to his family. What would he do if he knew the full extent of his father’s plans? Would he turn against his own blood?

Shisui shook his head, pushing the thought away. He couldn’t afford to question Itachi’s loyalty now. There was too much at stake.

He arrived at the Uchiha compound, his heart heavy with the weight of what he had to do. Itachi was waiting for him, standing in the courtyard with his back to the gate. He didn’t turn as Shisui approached, but Shisui knew he had sensed him coming.

“Itachi,” Shisui said quietly, “we need to talk.”

Itachi turned, his dark eyes unreadable. “I know,” he replied, his voice calm as ever. “I’ve heard the whispers too.”

Shisui felt a pang of relief—at least Itachi was aware of the danger. But as he looked into his friend’s eyes, he realized that Itachi was already far ahead of him. He wasn’t just aware of the danger—he had been preparing for it.

“What are we going to do?” Shisui asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

Itachi looked up at the moon, his expression distant. “There’s only one way to stop this,” he said. “But it won’t be easy.”

Shisui frowned, sensing the weight in Itachi’s words. “What do you mean?”

Itachi’s eyes darkened. “We have to eliminate the threat. All of it.”

For a moment, the world seemed to tilt beneath Shisui’s feet. He had expected Itachi to suggest negotiation, to find a way to talk the clan down from rebellion. But this—this was something else.

“You mean…” Shisui began, but the words caught in his throat.

Itachi’s voice was cold, unyielding. “If the Uchiha Clan continues down this path, they will destroy the village. We cannot let that happen.”

Shisui stared at his friend, struggling to find his voice. He knew Itachi was right—if the Uchiha launched a coup, it would lead to a bloody conflict that could tear the village apart. But to eliminate the threat… to destroy the Uchiha…

“There has to be another way,” Shisui said, desperation creeping into his voice. “We can still stop this. We just need more time.”

Itachi’s gaze softened, but only for a moment. “Time is running out, Shisui. We don’t have many options left.”

Shisui clenched his fists, his mind racing. He couldn’t accept that this was the only solution. There had to be another way—a way to stop the rebellion without destroying his clan.

“I have a plan,” Shisui said, his voice steady. “The Kotoamatsukami.”

Itachi’s eyes widened slightly at the mention of Shisui’s powerful genjutsu. “You would use it on the clan?”

Shisui nodded. “If I can place the clan elders under my control, I can prevent them from carrying out their plans. They won’t even know it’s happening.”

For the first time, Itachi hesitated. “That could work… but it’s risky. If the clan finds out, they’ll see it as a betrayal.”

“It’s a risk I’m willing to take,” Shisui said firmly. “If it means saving the village and the clan, I’ll do whatever it takes.”

Itachi was silent for a long moment, his gaze fixed on the ground. Finally, he looked up at Shisui, his expression unreadable.

“Very well,” he said. “We’ll try it your way.”
