Chapter 70 The Silent Revenge of Shisui Uchiha: 3 Shadows of the Past

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

The riverbank where Shisui Uchiha fell remained eerily silent. Itachi sat motionless beside the lifeless body of his closest friend, his face blank, but his heart heavy. The grief that coursed through him was deep and unshakable, yet he knew there was no time to mourn. The village still needed to be saved, and Shisui’s sacrifice could not be in vain.

Shisui had entrusted him with the power of the Kotoamatsukami, a genjutsu so powerful it could change the fate of the Uchiha and the village. But with this gift came an immense burden. Itachi had always known the weight of responsibility, yet the events of the past few hours had shifted his view of loyalty and duty forever.

He stood slowly, his body tense with unspoken resolve. There was no turning back now. The path before him was clear, though it was one lined with darkness. If the Uchiha clan persisted in their plans for rebellion, the village would be torn apart by war. And Danzo Shimura, lurking in the shadows, would use this chaos to tighten his control over Konoha.

Itachi knew he had to act. He would have to stop his own family—by any means necessary.

Two days later, the Uchiha compound was buzzing with rumors. The elders had been restless, and Fugaku Uchiha’s presence seemed to fill every room with a tense energy. The clan had learned that Shisui was missing, and it didn’t take long for suspicion to arise. Whispers circulated that the Leaf’s leadership had a hand in his disappearance, further fueling the anger among the Uchiha.

Itachi moved through the compound quietly, his face an impassive mask. No one knew the truth of Shisui’s fate—not yet. And he would keep it that way for as long as possible. His father, Fugaku, had become the central figure in the growing rebellion, and the elders were now fully committed to their plan of a coup. Itachi’s heart twisted as he listened to their conversations, knowing that every step they took brought them closer to destruction.

That evening, Fugaku summoned Itachi to the family’s private quarters. The room was dimly lit, and the air felt heavy with unspoken tension. Fugaku stood by the window, his back to his son as he gazed out at the village below.

“Itachi,” Fugaku began, his voice low and steady. “The time has come. The Uchiha cannot wait any longer. The village elders have pushed us to the edge, and if we don’t act, they will crush us.”

Itachi’s gaze remained fixed on his father, but his mind was racing. He had known this moment would come, but it felt surreal now that it was here.

Fugaku turned, his sharp eyes meeting Itachi’s. “I need to know, Itachi. Where do your loyalties lie?”

The question hung in the air like a blade. Itachi had always known that his father suspected him of being too close to the village leadership. Fugaku had often hinted at his displeasure with Itachi’s role in the ANBU, and his father’s watchful eyes had followed him for years.

“My loyalty is to the Uchiha,” Itachi replied calmly, his voice betraying nothing. “But I also care about the future of this village. War will destroy us all.”

Fugaku’s eyes narrowed slightly. “Sometimes, war is necessary to secure peace. You know this.”

Itachi said nothing, but the silence between them was thick with tension. He could see it in his father’s eyes—Fugaku was already set on the path of rebellion, and nothing Itachi said would change his mind.

“Tomorrow night,” Fugaku said after a long pause, “the Uchiha will make our move. We will take control of the village before the Hokage has a chance to retaliate. When the time comes, I expect you to stand with us, Itachi. Your power will be essential to our success.”

Itachi’s chest tightened. He nodded slowly, though his heart ached at the words. His father didn’t know that by this time tomorrow, the Uchiha’s fate would already be sealed.

That night, Itachi met with the Third Hokage and the village council in secret. The moon shone brightly overhead as they gathered in the Hokage’s office, the air thick with the gravity of the situation.

“Itachi,” Hiruzen Sarutobi began, his voice gentle but firm, “we know what’s coming. The Uchiha have decided on rebellion. But I want you to understand… we are still open to negotiation. If there’s any chance to avoid bloodshed, we must take it.”

Itachi’s expression remained unreadable, though his heart was heavy. “I’ve tried,” he replied softly. “But the elders, my father… they won’t be swayed. They believe the village has already turned its back on them.”

Danzo, standing in the shadows of the room, scoffed. “There’s no reasoning with them. The Uchiha have always been a threat. We must eliminate them before they tear the village apart.”

Itachi’s eyes flickered with anger, but he suppressed it. He knew Danzo’s true intentions—he had never cared for the safety of the village; he merely saw the Uchiha as an obstacle to his own ambitions.

Hiruzen shot Danzo a sharp look, but said nothing. He knew that the situation had spiraled beyond his control, and the only way to prevent a full-scale war was to take decisive action.

“I understand the gravity of the situation,” Itachi said quietly. “If the Uchiha proceed with their coup, I will stop them.”

Hiruzen’s eyes softened with sorrow. “I’m sorry it has come to this, Itachi. You carry a great burden.”

Itachi nodded, though his mind was already elsewhere. He had accepted the burden of stopping his own clan, but the weight of what he was about to do threatened to crush him.

The following night arrived all too soon. The Uchiha elders gathered in the shadows of their compound, preparing for their assault on the village. Itachi stood in the center of it all, his expression cold and distant. No one could have guessed the storm brewing within him.

As the clan made their final preparations, Itachi moved silently through the compound, his mind racing. He had a mission to complete—a mission that would forever change the course of his life. But there was one final thing he needed to do.

Sasuke.

His younger brother was the one person Itachi could never hurt. The boy was innocent in all of this, unaware of the brewing conflict that would soon erupt into violence. As Itachi entered the small room where Sasuke slept, he knelt beside his brother’s bed, watching the gentle rise and fall of his chest.

“I’m sorry,” Itachi whispered, his voice barely audible. “I’m so sorry.”

Sasuke stirred slightly, but did not wake. Itachi stood and, with one final glance, left the room.

The massacre began in silence, the weight of the night pressing down on the Uchiha compound as Itachi moved through it like a shadow. His Mangekyō Sharingan spun as he cut down his fellow clansmen, his heart breaking with every step.

He knew that this was the only way. Shisui’s sacrifice had given him the power to end the rebellion before it began, but it came at an unbearable cost. One by one, the Uchiha fell, their lives snuffed out in the dark, and all Itachi could think of was Sasuke.

Danzo had demanded their complete eradication, but Itachi had made a deal. His brother would be spared. Sasuke would live.

When the last of the elders had fallen, Itachi stood in the center of the compound, surrounded by the bodies of his people. His face was blank, his mind numb. He had done what was necessary to save the village, but at what cost?

The silence of the night was deafening.
