Chapter 137 Kurama’s Misadventures, Fox in a Ninja’s Body: 10 The Final Slip

The festival had ended, and for a brief moment, Kurama allowed himself to breathe easy. He had survived yet another day in Naruto’s body without completely blowing his cover, and despite a few close calls, it seemed like things were starting to settle down.

But Kurama should have known by now that peace never lasted long in Konoha.

It was early the next morning when Kurama’s temporary sense of calm was shattered. He was heading toward the training grounds, hoping to avoid any more social interactions, when he ran into none other than Sai and Yamato.

Sai greeted him with his usual emotionless smile. “Good morning, Naruto. Captain Yamato and I were just looking for you.”

Kurama groaned internally. Not these two.

Yamato gave him a stern look. “We have training scheduled for today, remember? You’ve been skipping out on it all week.”

Kurama tried to play it off, scratching the back of his head in an attempt to look sheepish. “Oh, right. Sorry about that. I’ve just been... uh... busy.”

Yamato crossed his arms, his brow furrowed in frustration. “Busy or not, you can’t slack off like this, Naruto. You need to focus on your training.”

Kurama groaned. He had no idea how he was supposed to train like Naruto. What if they expected him to perform some advanced jutsu or show off his Rasengan? He had managed to get away with pretending so far, but this was different. There was no way he could fake his way through actual training.

“Alright, alright,” Kurama said quickly, trying to sound enthusiastic. “Let’s get started!”

The training began innocuously enough. Sai and Yamato were mostly focused on sparring drills, and Kurama did his best to keep up without overexerting himself. He threw a few punches, dodged some attacks, and generally managed to avoid making a fool of himself.

But things took a sharp turn when Yamato suggested practicing some jutsu.

“Alright, Naruto, let’s see your Rasengan,” Yamato said, his tone expectant.

Kurama froze. Rasengan? How the hell am I supposed to do that?

He could feel both Yamato and Sai watching him, waiting for him to act. Panic surged through him. He had no idea how to perform Naruto’s signature move. He wasn’t a ninja—he was a giant fox stuffed into a human body!

Kurama clenched his fists, desperately trying to think of a way out. He couldn’t let them see him fail. Not now.

“Uh... actually, I’ve been working on a new jutsu,” Kurama blurted out, hoping to distract them. “It’s still in development, so it’s not quite ready yet, but...”

Sai raised an eyebrow. “A new jutsu? That’s interesting. Why don’t you show us?”

Kurama’s heart pounded in his chest. Of course he’d say that.

“Yeah, well, it’s not exactly stable yet,” Kurama stammered, backing away slowly. “I don’t want to accidentally blow something up.”

Yamato frowned. “Naruto, you’ve been working on the Rasengan for years. You should be able to control it by now.”

Kurama could feel the walls closing in. There was no way out of this. If he didn’t show them something soon, they were going to realize that something was wrong.

Desperate, Kurama decided to gamble on one last, risky plan.

“I’ll show you,” Kurama said, stepping forward. “But we need to go somewhere more... secluded. This jutsu is a little unpredictable.”

Yamato and Sai exchanged glances but followed him as he led them deeper into the training grounds, away from the prying eyes of other ninjas.

Once they were far enough away, Kurama knew he had to act fast. There was no way he could perform the Rasengan, but maybe he could get out of this situation another way.

“Alright,” Kurama said, turning to face Yamato and Sai. “I’m going to need some space for this. It’s a big one.”

Sai and Yamato nodded, stepping back to give him room. Kurama took a deep breath, concentrating as hard as he could. Maybe if I channel some of my chakra, I can create a distraction...

He reached deep within himself, summoning the raw power of the Nine-Tails. Chakra swirled around him, crackling with energy as the air around him grew thick with tension. He could feel the power building, ready to be unleashed.

But just as Kurama was about to release the chakra, something went horribly wrong.

The chakra surged uncontrollably, spiraling out of his grasp. Kurama’s eyes widened as he realized he had overdone it. Oh no...

With a deafening roar, the chakra exploded outward in a burst of energy, knocking Sai and Yamato off their feet. Trees shook, and the ground trembled as the shockwave rippled through the training grounds.

When the dust settled, Kurama stood in the center of the destruction, panting heavily. He had only meant to create a small distraction—but instead, he had nearly leveled the entire area.

Yamato and Sai slowly got to their feet, their expressions a mix of shock and confusion.

“Uh... oops,” Kurama muttered, trying to play it off.

Yamato stared at him, wide-eyed. “Naruto... what was that?”

Kurama’s mind raced, trying to come up with an explanation. “That was... uh... a new version of the Rasengan! Still working out the kinks.”

Sai frowned. “I’ve never seen you use chakra like that before.”

Kurama could feel his heart pounding in his chest. They weren’t buying it. Not this time.

Before he could come up with another excuse, Yamato stepped closer, his eyes narrowing. “Naruto, something’s not right. You’ve been acting strange for weeks. And that jutsu... it didn’t feel like your chakra at all.”

Kurama’s breath caught in his throat. He was out of time. There was no more dodging or deflecting. Yamato had figured it out.

“I don’t know what’s going on,” Yamato continued, his voice low, “but you need to tell us the truth.”

Kurama clenched his fists, feeling the weight of the lie crashing down on him. He had come so close to keeping the secret, but it was over now. There was no way out.

With a deep sigh, Kurama finally spoke. “You’re right. I’m not Naruto.”

Yamato and Sai’s eyes widened in shock.

Kurama took a step back, his body glowing with chakra as he began to revert to his true form. The illusion of Naruto’s body faded, replaced by the massive, towering figure of the Nine-Tailed Fox.

Yamato and Sai stared up at him in stunned silence, their expressions a mix of awe and disbelief.

“I’ve been in control of Naruto’s body for the past few weeks,” Kurama admitted, his voice booming in the air. “He’s... taking a break, let’s just say.”

Yamato took a cautious step forward. “Kurama... why? Why didn’t you tell us?”

Kurama huffed. “Because I didn’t want to deal with all this ninja drama. But it turns out pretending to be Naruto is way harder than I thought.”

Sai blinked, still processing what he was seeing. “So... you’re not here to destroy the village?”

Kurama rolled his eyes. “No. If I wanted to destroy the village, I would have done it by now.”

Yamato took a deep breath, his posture relaxing slightly. “We need to bring Naruto back. It’s time for him to return.”

Kurama nodded. “Yeah, I know. I’m done with this whole human thing anyway.”

With that, Kurama closed his eyes, focusing his energy. Slowly, the chakra surrounding him dissipated, and he withdrew into the depths of Naruto’s subconscious.

When Naruto finally woke up, blinking in confusion, he found himself standing in the middle of the destroyed training grounds, with Yamato and Sai staring at him.

“Uh... what happened?” Naruto asked, scratching his head.

Yamato sighed, rubbing his temples. “It’s... a long story.”

Kurama’s adventure comes to a chaotic conclusion as his cover is blown, and Naruto finally returns to his body. After weeks of pretending to be human, Kurama realizes that the ninja life isn’t as easy as it seems, and Naruto is left to pick up the pieces of his friend’s misadventures. But with the village still standing and no real harm done, Kurama’s temporary stint as a ninja comes to a comedic end—though the memory of his antics will surely linger in Konoha for some time to come.

Epilogue: A Fox’s Lesson

In the quiet solitude of Naruto’s subconscious, Kurama sat, reflecting on his time in the outside world. Despite the stress, the close calls, and the overwhelming chaos of it all, Kurama couldn’t help but feel a strange sense of pride.

“Maybe humans aren’t as weak as I thought,” Kurama muttered to himself. “But I’m never doing that again.”

With a satisfied huff, the Nine-Tailed Fox settled down for a long, well-deserved nap.
