A group of people suddenly appeared in the midst of Long Chen’s tribulation. Leading them was a man with a black eyepatch. This caught Long Chen off guard. He sensed a powerful lightning aura from the man, which clearly marked him as a rare lightning cultivator. The man was tall, muscular, and bald, with runes slithering like centipedes across his bald head. Just looking at it gave people chills. His single eye, filled with flashing lightning runes, gazed at Long Chen with contempt.
“That’s Mad Lightning. No one knows his real name, but he’s one of the Wind God Sea Pavilion’s divine sons,” Tang Wan-er informed Long Chen through a spiritual message, her expression cautious as she recognized the man.
Long Chen glanced at him. The name fit perfectly—everything about this man screamed wild and unruly.
Mad Lightning stood with his hands behind his back, arrogantly sizing up Long Chen. “So, Tang Wan-er, this is the Long Chen you’ve been talking about? He doesn’t seem like much. If you were with me, no one in the Wind God Sea Pavilion would dare to trouble you.”
Behind Mad Lightning, his eight retainers grinned lecherously. Long Chen’s expression darkened.
“Wan-er, what would happen if I kill them?” asked Long Chen.
“Don’t. The Wind God Sea Pavilion forbids disciples from killing each other. If you kill him, it will implicate my master,” Tang Wan-er said hastily. She could sense Long Chen’s bloodlust rising.
Mad Lightning and his men burst into mocking laughter, as if they had just heard the funniest joke in the world.
“I promise I’ll be quick and clean,” Long Chen transmitted back to her.
“Long Chen, calm down,” Tang Wan-er pleaded, grabbing his arm. “This place is still considered the Wind God Sea Pavilion’s territory. If you kill them, all the karma can be calculated. I know you’re angry, but please endure a bit. During the ranking competition, we’ll teach them a lesson.”
Long Chen clenched his fists, his knuckles white with suppressed rage. If Tang Wan-er weren’t here, not even the heavens could stop him from killing these fools.
“Don’t like what I said, little man?” Mad Lightning sneered. “If it weren’t for the Pavilion’s rules, you’d already be a corpse just for looking at me that way. But don’t worry, the ranking competition is coming. You’ll see that you’re nothing but trash. You don’t deserve her.”
Mad Lightning waved dismissively, and his retinue followed suit with more taunts. One of them even made a vulgar gesture and said, “Little fellow, I also want to experience your techniques. If you can’t even beat me, you should just kill yourself, hahaha!”
As soon as they were gone, Long Chen’s face turned ashen, his eyes sharp and dangerous, as though he was on the verge of exploding.
“Long Chen, please,” Tang Wan-er murmured, holding him tighter. “Let’s wait for the competition. We’ll teach them a lesson they’ll never forget.”
Long Chen nodded reluctantly and instructed her to lead the others in battling the lightning beasts. These beasts, summoned by the Heavenly Daos, roared with a power that could shake their souls. Though the disciples were holding their ground, they were still at risk.
Seeing Long Chen calming down, Tang Wan-er smiled at him softly. When no one was looking, she snuck in a quick kiss on his cheek before returning to the battlefield.
Long Chen couldn’t help but smile bitterly. He looked at his own hands, which had seen so much bloodshed, yet they still reached for those he loved.
If it hadn’t been for Tang Wan-er holding him back, he would have killed Mad Lightning. Long Chen wasn’t sure why he had been so quick to anger over a few words.
The moment he lost his cool, he thought of the white-robed Long Chen. Back when the white-robed Long Chen appeared, he had a similar feeling.
He thought back to the time the white-robed Long Chen had appeared, and he could sense a similar sense of rage and instability. The realization sent a chill through him. When had his heart grown so weak that such a small provocation nearly drove him to explode?
“Is this the influence of my heart-devil?” Long Chen wondered, his thoughts racing.
Each time the white-robed figure appeared, Long Chen’s temper seemed to worsen. It was as if the slightest touch would make him explode like a blazing volcano.
In the past, Long Chen would have shrugged off such taunts, maybe even slapped the offender lightly to teach them a lesson. But this time, a fierce desire to obliterate Mad Lightning had surged through him, as if he wouldn’t be satisfied until the man was reduced to dust.
Moreover, it wasn’t just Mad Lightning. Even his eight retainers’ disdainful expressions made Long Chen want to tear off their faces.
“What’s happening to me?” Long Chen shivered. “Have I become bedeviled?”
The image of the white-robed Long Chen, with his cold, emotionless black eyes, flashed in Long Chen’s mind. His icy black eyes only contained a desire to kill, devoid of other emotions.
Long Chen took a deep breath, struggling to calm himself. This loss of control wasn’t just a bad omen—it was dangerous. If his heart-devil’s influence continued to grow, it might overpower him completely.
“Damn it, why am I always so unlucky? There’s never a shortage of idiots trying to provoke me. What a pain,” Long Chen muttered to himself as he tried to calm down.
However, the image of Mad Lightning’s smug face resurfaced in his mind, reigniting the anger he had just suppressed.
At that moment, the tribulation clouds trembled. Snapping back to the present, Long Chen quickly called out, “Lei Linger, keep the tribulation under control. Don’t let it dissipate.”
Lei Linger shot out of the primal chaos space. With swift hand seals, she summoned lightning chains that locked onto the clouds, securing them in place.
At this moment, the tribulation beasts were gone, and the storm was nearing its end. The female warriors were exhausted, and seeing Lei Linger suddenly unleash such an immense divine ability left them stunned.
“Condense!” Lei Linger shouted.
The next moment, the tribulation clouds shuddered, and the laws of the ten thousand Daos collapsed as the clouds were compressed into a tiny sphere in her hand.
Just then, Long Chen felt a faint tremor in his Dantian. When he looked inward, a smile spread across his face.
