In this world, there was no lack of people who did nothing except suck up to the winning side. When they were actually needed, they were nowhere to be found.
Naturally, Long Chen couldn’t even be bothered to exchange pleasantries with these old foxes. He left this absolute pleasure to Miao Yin. As for himself, he went to the heart of the citadel. The entire headquarters had been destroyed, city and all, and only the divine pool remained safe as it was sealed by Grand Dao power. Even the palace master’s attack was unable to destroy it.
In theory, since that Heavenly Sovereign had fled, the Cult of Mara was not technically destroyed. Based on the laws of the karmic luck clash, they were not completely defeated just yet.
However, while the Heavenly Daos still wanted to give the Cult of Mara a chance, Long Chen begged to differ. He raised his hand, circulating the power of the golden lotus to seize the energy within the karmic luck divine pool. In front of countless shocked gazes, the divine pool crumbled. The destruction of the divine pool at the headquarters meant that the Cult of Mara would no longer be able to condense karmic luck, and their name would be erased from history.
Long Chen’s action left countless people dumbfounded. This karmic luck divine pool was sealed by the Heavenly Daos. How was Long Chen able to ignore the laws of the Heavenly Daos and forcibly seize it? What kind of heaven-defying ability was that? Most importantly, even after he broke the rules of the Heavenly Daos, there was no divine punishment unleashed upon him. This completely toppled people’s understanding of the rules of the world.
…
Just as Long Chen absorbed the karmic luck divine pool, the Heavenly Sovereign who had fled spat out more blood.
“You bastard! Long Chen, I will not rest until you are dead!” roared that elder.
Just then, the cocoon in his hand began to flash. Black lines wriggled, and the energy fluctuations became incredibly intense.
“Shit!” The elder’s expression changed, and he hastily sacrificed what little essence blood he had left to pacify the cocoon. Only after it absorbed his essence blood did it slowly calm back down.
“Long Chen, just you wait! I will definitely have my disciple avenge this humiliation!”
The elder glanced back in the direction of the now-ruined headquarters of the Cult of Mara. Clenching his teeth, he vanished along with the cocoon.
…
Long Chen absorbed the karmic luck. And then, just as he had expected, with the destruction of their branches, headquarters, and main karmic luck divine pool, the Heavenly Daos finally made the determination that the Cult of Mara was finished.
The original will in the karmic luck that Long Chen had seized instantly fell apart, and the ocean of karmic luck he had absorbed instantly became masterless.
Hehehe, as expected, the greater the risk, the greater the reward. I wonder what level I’ll reach when I absorb all this karmic luck…
Long Chen was delighted. The Cult of Mara was gone; even though there were certainly some survivors, he wasn’t worried about them. He wasn’t worried about the elder either; although that old fellow was like a wild dog that would undoubtedly bite when his back was pressed against the wall, that dog would have to recuperate from its wounds first before it could start barking again.
The palace master’s attack had injured his core, and Long Chen had then taken most of his essence blood. It would take centuries to fully recover from such a thing. Even if he had every precious medicine and pill in existence, with his ancient body, the chance of recovering within a few years was basically zero. Meanwhile, Long Chen was sure that he would be able to reach the Divine Sovereign realm within ten years, and by that time, he would no longer fear a Heavenly Sovereign.
After cleaning up the battlefield, Long Chen didn’t even bother going back to those so-called “major figures” who wanted to speak to him. He simply got on the flying boat and flew off, not forgetting to raise the banner of the first academy while he shuttled away.
“Isn’t that too arrogant? Does he really think he can fight the outsider devils all on his own?”
“Even if he’s powerful, does he think he can surpass the Star Master from back in the day? Even if he does become as strong as the Star Master, he will need all of us to fight the outsider devils together! Who does he think he is?!”
“Youngsters are always immature, and they are bound to suffer a painful defeat sooner or later!”
Being treated this way made these major figures irritated. Once Long Chen had gone, they began to vent.
There were many people present watching them with contempt. They truly were a bunch of foxes who jumped ship the moment the winds turned. If there was danger, no sign of them could be found. But once victory had been decided, they suddenly showed up to get a share of the spoils. If Long Chen did give them any face, it would make the others look down on him.
This attitude actually won him even more respect from the majority of people—specifically, anyone with the slightest sense of shame. These people had all refrained from stepping forward to talk to him. After all, while Long Chen was fighting, not a single one of them had gone to assist him. They hadn’t even cheered him on, in fact, so why should he bother with them?
When news of the Cult of Mara’s destruction spread, the entire Sovereign Emperor Heaven was shaken.
Many had only just received word of the North Sea Silver Fox race’s destruction; they’d heard that Long Chen had rallied disciples from different races and challenged the outsider devils alone. After slaughtering those enemies, he rejected the karmic luck reward and split it amongst all the warriors who had fought alongside him…
This news was deeply shocking. It was so incredible that, no matter how many times it was repeated, many were still doubting its veracity. In fact, they were still trying to verify the rumors when Long Chen led the academy’s disciples against the Cult of Mara.
Then, everyone learned that the Cult of Mara had been destroyed. An overlord of the primal chaos era, gone just like that! This information was even more unbelievable; let alone those who hadn’t seen it personally, even many people who had personally witnessed it found it hard to believe.
While countless people were investigating this matter, the first academy’s flying boat was flying through the sky in a rather pompous manner. Long Chen did this intentionally, in order to show everyone that even after undergoing a bloody battle, even when everyone was exhausted, they still dared to stand tall and proud.
The High Firmament Academy had many enemies, and Long Chen had even more enemies. He was practically announcing to them that this was their chance to attack. The question was whether or not they had the guts.
Long Chen stood at the bow, gazing into the distance. Miao Yin, Zi Yan, and the others were maintaining their distance, because the palace master was standing beside him.
“That was a Heavenly Sovereign. How do you feel about that?” asked the palace master.
“What was that power?” asked Long Chen.
The palace master smiled. “I asked the sweeping elder the same thing. He gave me a strange answer.”
“What was it?”
“The hand follows the reversion of the Dao. All things beneath the heaven are of being; from being, non-being.”
When Long Chen heard that, his eyes widened, and he shivered down to his very core. “So that’s how it is!”
Now it was the palace master’s turn to be shocked. “The hell do you mean? You understand that?”
These cryptic words had left the palace master completely befuddled. The sweeping elder had only said this much, and the palace master hadn’t asked anything more. He was quite certain that, even if he had asked, the sweeping elder wouldn’t have elaborated.
Long Chen excitedly said, “I think I understand the secrets of the Heavenly Sovereign realm!”
