My Little Girl (88)

Su Huang turned a deaf ear and continued to drink with his head lowered. His eyes were unfocused like a man who was close to entering the abyss.

Ningcheng sighed. Contrary to his actions, he could understand why Su Huang was like this.

Among their brothers, aside from Sheng Qianmo who was single-minded—’Oh right, not anymore. Even Brother Qianmo is now laden with a small flower bud’—most of them who grew up in the military camp together could see through each other’s feelings. For most of them, women were just entertainment and not as important as the battlefield. But Su Huang was different; he had someone in mind.

It was the woman who’d given birth to Little Su, his son. They’d all thought that Su Huang would be the first among them to start a proper family, as they’d all seen the deep affection Su Huang held for the woman. But later, she’d been revealed to be a spy of the Nanchao Kingdom. Once exposed, she’d run away without a second thought. Other than his son, Su Huang had been left with nothing but remembrance.

That woman had caused Su Huang to lose a city, and it’d been five years since the emperor had driven him to the Yan City. He’d returned to the capital only a while ago.

Although half a decade had passed since then, Ningcheng could see that Su Huang hadn’t let go of the past.

When Ji Xili arrived, she saw Su Huang sitting by the window and drinking from a pot of wine. She went over and stood in front of him, affixing him with a firm gaze. Shu Huang looked up at her as well. Over the years Ji Xili had turned even more beautiful, and she was no longer the girl who only followed behind Sheng Qianmo. He gave her a faint smile, and said, “Long time no see, Xili.”

Ji Xili bowed her head and smiled. She poured a cup of wine, touched his pot with it, and then drank it in one gulp.

Ningcheng Yuan ordered wine and some snacks. As soon as he saw the two drinking, he rushed over and grabbed Xili’s cup.

“Don’t learn the drunkard’s habits!”

Ji Xili wore a weak smile and asked, “How is Su Su?”

“Good,” Su Huang said before swallowing another mouthful of wine. “He’s very good, but a little clingy. Before coming here, I had to wait till he’d fallen asleep.”

Ningcheng Yuan shook his head and sighed. “Look at your disgusting tone! Su Huan, you should be thankful. Our Little Su is smart, you couldn’t find a boy like him if you searched.”

Su Huang didn’t laugh, and instead looked up at Ningcheng Yuan for a moment. His gaze was like a cold dagger that made the other’s hair on the arms tingle and stand up.

Ningcheng gave a quick cough to change the topic. “Oh, why hasn’t Brother Sheng arrived yet? I’ll go and have a look!”

After Ningcheng left, Ji Xili sat down in front of Su Huang, poured herself another cup of wine, but didn’t drink it. She looked out of the window quietly.

“How has he been all these years?”

“You’re asking me?” asked Su Huang, wearing a shallow smile.

Ji Xili pursed her lips and didn’t speak again.

Su Huang looked down and filled his cup again.

With a calm voice, he said, “In the past two months, he destroyed the Qing Kingdom in one stroke. I heard he brought a slave from there on his way back, and she lives in his manor. It’s quite interesting.”

Ji Xili’s hand tightened on the cup.

She muttered, “Is it true…”
