Day 093 Side Story

【Netsuki-kun’s Perspective: Day 93】

TL Note : Netsuki is the Flame Lord’s name, as we find out in day 94.

There has been talk that the strongest monsters of this area, the “Falaise Eagles”, live on the path along the cliff we are taking today.

I had met them back when I was full of energy, a little before I met that fucking bastard --It was a guy called the Empire’s 【Conquering Wolf Hero】, I think. Anyways, he had subordinates and wore equipment that resembled wolves-- and was defeated, captured, and became a war slave. Although it was at a different location, I had fought these guys before to test my strength.

That was why I knew, but these monsters were on the rather troublesome side of all the flying-type monsters I had fought until now.

Even though they had a larger body than me, they had four wings, just as their name said, which they moved in ways that you would think were impossible and used to freely fly through the air. As if that wasn’t difficult enough to deal with, these disgusting bastards hunted by approaching their prey from their blind spot at the speed of sound without making any noise, and then slowly weakened their prey by secreting a strong paralysis poison from their talons.

Well, it was just the fighting style that was irritating, so once you got used to it, killing them wasn’t such a big problem. Even back then, when I was much weaker than today, I was able to kill one, only sustaining injuries that took around three days to completely heal.

It should be much easier to kill them now.

Anyways, it seemed that there was a boss-class monster here that controlled the Falaise Eagles around these parts.

It wasn’t just any boss-class either. I heard that it was one of the few and accordingly strong ones with a 【Divine Protection】.

Hmm, a Falaise Eagle with 【Divine Protection】, something that even I did not possess.

It should be so strong that if I, even at my current state, were to fight it head on, I would need to be ready to sustain serious injuries.

In addition, they were intelligent, so even if I were to slowly stack on damage with counters as they attacked, if they thought they were in trouble, there was a possibility that I wouldn’t be able to kill it, since they would instantly run away into the sky.

The most troublesome characteristic about these guys has got to be their intelligence. Yeah.

It’s so unfair in many ways that they can fly. As someone who has to stay on the surface, I’m so jealous.

Let’s see, if it’s these guys, even if it’s OgaRou who was able to beat us up, it shouldn’t be so easy for him to…… What??

Ummm, ok. This guy, extended string? from his fingertips and captured the Falaise Eagle that attacked from a place that was completely a blind spot. Uuuh, why string? He can spew it out? And why were you able to sense it. It was a complete blind spot hidden by rocks and these guys are super good at hiding their presence.

As we were thinking such thoughts, he quickly caught eighteen and ate them.

Just whaaaat. You could only say whaaaaat to that.

No seriously, put on a harder fight. These guys, they can fly, you know. They’re fast, you know. They’re intelligent and they’re huge, you know.

If it were on the ground, I could kill them easily too, but these are formidable guys that hide their presence and attack from a blind spot, you know? Despite that, why are you able to kill them instantly, as if they were nothing?

Oh come on, hold up a moment.

As we continued the path like that, the boss appeared.

It was a subspecies possessing jade feathers, and it was leading five Falaise Eagles. It was twice as big as normal. The intimidation was overwhelming.

If it was this guy, even OgaRou would have a hard fight. Judging by the species, it must’ve received divine protection from the 【God of Wind】 or the 【Demigod of Gale】, so it would most definitely use long ranged attacks using wind.

If that was the case, OgaRou, who couldn’t fly…… Ummmm, wings sprouted from OgaRou’s back? No, wait, those aren’t wings. If you thought about them, they looked more like insect wings.

Well, it didn’t matter which one. Or wait, it did matter.

How come could an Ogre create organs like that. I just didn’t understand. There had been all sorts of inexplicable things happening related to OgaRou, but this was really too strange.

No matter how amazing he is, in the end, he’s an Ogre, you know? He’s an existence that’s normally at least two ranks below us Lords, ok? How come he’s able to do that. I just don’t understand anymore.

And wait, as I was trying to escape reality, the air battle has already reached its climax, what am I supposed to do.

In the end, I was only able to exchange looks with Fuuki and Genki, who also had dumbfounded looks on their faces, and watched the fight.

TL Note : As you may have guessed, Fuuki and Genki are the names of the other two Lords (also day 94)

…… The match ended.

A fierce battle had unfolded in the air for quite a while, but OgaRou was gradually pushed back, and the boss, taking advantage of a brief opening, let out its strongest attack-- and was quickly smashed into the ground by a OgaRou who became serious.

Until just a little earlier, it looked like OgaRou was losing, but when I noticed, the tables had been instantly reversed.

I didn’t know how I should react.

Oh, whatever. I only understood that, in order to protect the wellbeing of my mind, I should stop thinking too deeply.

A demon follows the strong ones. And OgaRou is strong without a doubt. Therefore, he is someone who must be followed.

No matter how eccentric he is, he’s someone who must be followed. He really is amazing, after all.

Yeah, that’s good enough for me.
