"Jade!"Numerous cries sounded out. Hearing them, Jade's heart felt warm. She had indeed lived well, having so many sisters who cared for her in her final moments.
The only regret she had was being unable to see that man again. Though she felt unworthy of his love, just being by his side for a time would have been enough. If only she hadn't been so stubborn in the past.
"You have a lot of nerve, trying to lay your hands on my wife."
The voice was too sudden. It had an air of indifference and conceit, as though the words had been spoken carelessly. Yet, they managed to drown out the roars of the void beasts with absolute ease.
A broad back appeared before Jade. She had no idea when it had gotten there or how it had gotten there. Yet, her eyes involuntarily watered when she saw it.
A young man with one hand clasped behind his back and his other palm facing forward seemed to be the only line between the rampaging void beasts and their deaths.
Those who didn't immediately recognize him still felt endless despair. Yet, the next scene stunned them all.
The countless attacks, each as large as a moon, suddenly came to a grinding halt before they reached this young man's palm.
In the next instant, they all burst into a rain of blood and flesh.
The only one to react wasn't just Jade. The view of that back was simply too familiar to them all. It had been in their thoughts and dreams for too long. Plus… who else would enter a battlefield like this wearing nothing but that flimsy cloth, without even a defensive treasure to speak of? There was only one answer… their husband.
Jade was so shocked that it took her several moments to realize what Dyon had said.
'His wife? He takes me as one?'
Thinking to this point, her delicate features couldn't help but bloom as blood flowed to her soft cheeks. She lowered her head, not knowing what to say. All of her wit and cleverness seemed to disappear with the wind.
She had most definitely not been this kind of person in the past. The Jade Dyon initially met would have most definitely had a clever remark for what he just said already. But in the past years, she had gone through too much. That combined with how indecisive Dyon had been in the past when it came to relationships led to her current state.
Ri, Clara, Amphorae and Luna stood frozen in place. They subtly pinched each other as though trying to make sure what they were seeing wasn't a dream.
That voice, it was real. That back, it was real. This sight before them… it was real.
Their eyes welled up with tears. With the exception of Amphorae who still seemed capable of withholding her emotions, the others couldn't hold back, their thoughts and feelings of the last century spilling over in a flood.
Dyon could hardly turn back around and smile before a pile of soft bodies assaulted him from all sides. Caught off guard, he nearly lost his balance in the air, wishing he had more arms to hug them all.
Jade stood off to the side, nervousness still coloring her features.
After a moment, she realized that these four had indeed been behind her. Maybe when Dyon said wives, he wasn't referring to her at all.
When she had this thought, though her heart contained a faint trace of sadness, she still smiled warmly. She had wanted to see him again, and here he was. How could she not be happy?
"Aren't you going to go?"
Jade was startled by the voice that appeared to her side. It took her a second to realize that Amphorae was standing by her side.
"Big Sister Amphorae, you should go. If you're too stoic, little brother won't be happy."
Even after all these years, Jade hadn't forgotten that she was older than Dyon. She still remembered meeting him on Acacia Academy's roof and thinking to herself how fun it would be to tease her junior a bit. She had never expected that the young man she saw as a boy would be so clear headed and witty even in her presence.
Still, even if he was many times more powerful, she would still call him little brother. This small advantage, she wasn't willing to give it up.
Amphorae smiled lightly toward these words, but with her personality, it still came off somewhat indifferent.
"I know him very well." Amphorae said lightly. "When he said wives, he most definitely included you."
Jade was stunned silent.
"What are you two mumbling about? You see your husband standing here after so long, yet you don't come to greet him? When did I gain this pair of heartless women?"
At this point, even Amphorae was stunned by the sudden voice. She looked up to find that Dyon had somehow appeared before them, his grin wide.
"When did Jade become your wife? Are you trying to take advantage of a vulnerable woman?"
Clara glared at Dyon. She had somehow already wiped her tears clean and regained her previous demeanor. In an instant, it was impossible to tell that she had been happy to see Dyon.
Toward these words, Dyon's smile only widened.
"I guess I should show you guys something."
Before the women could react, Dyon's soul qi sprang free, enveloping the universe in the blink of an eye.
At that moment, a flood of memories entered their minds. They looked toward empty space with a dazed expression, unable to grasp what it was they were seeing until the relay of memories finally came to an end, stopping at this very place.
The five women looked toward Dyon with a stunned expression.
"How is it? Your husband is pretty great, huh? Even the Immortal Plane is my plaything. Look at you all, actually thinking I'd be in any danger."
Hearing these words, the women recovered and Clara was the first to act, sending a kick toward Dyon that sent him flying.
At this point, even Dyon wanted to know what he did wrong. He really hadn't expected this kind of reaction. Most of his strength came from calling upon fundamental runes. Without them, he still had a mortal body, though, this 'mortal' body was no weaker than an Immortals. With Clara's strength as a Three Facet Overlord, she too had strength comparable to an Immortal, so Dyon could only suffer in silence.
When Dyon looked back to complain, he could only be stunned again.
'Why are they all crying? Shouldn't this be a happy occasion?'
In the end, Dyon sighed. He could understand how they were feeling. They probably felt that he had suffered a lot. But, wasn't everything okay now? What was the point of crying about things that happened in the past? They should be celebrating.
"That kick was for forgetting Big Sister Madeleine."
Dyon was speechless. He didn't forget her, she erased his memory. There was a difference.
"Forget it, how can I argue with my own women. I should be more magnanimous."
Ri giggled toward these words, but Clara put her hands on her hips.
"You've become more of a chauvinist pig after regaining your memories. I think the little place called Earth we grew up on isn't half bad. You should take some of their teachings more seriously. I for one will make sure women across the Immortal Plane learn about feminism."
Dyon's lip twitched.
Coughing lightly, he cleaned himself up a bit.
"I'm going to go and find my daughter, she'll treat me much better than this."
When Dyon said these words, he noticed that their faces became somewhat solemn, causing him to frown.
"What happened?"
Dyon's playfulness vanished, a baleful aura enveloping the battlefield.
The warriors of the Mortal Empire felt their knees grow weak.
Luna sighed. "She's bedridden right now and has been in a coma for several months now."
"Is that so?" Dyon's words were short, but anyone could tell they were laced with murderous intent.
He looked around the battlefield. Seeing the pitiful number of Three Facet Overlords here, a sinister smile coated his expression.
"Master!"
Three young men bowed in unison when they saw Dyon.
"En." Dyon nodded faintly.
Seeing their master's mood, the three young men looked at one another and didn't say anything more. They had, of course, regained their memories as well. But, even if they hadn't, they would still worship this master of theirs without reserve.
"… All those who've defected from this army will be sentenced to death."
Dyon didn't say another word after this. He took a step and directly vanished before their eyes, his speed simply inconceivable.
These people wanted to gain benefits from him then escape when things became difficult while his daughter was protecting their backs? Wasn't that too good of a deal? Since they feared death so much, he would show them that it really was nothing much.
Dyon could already cross universes with ease even before he transcended. Now that he had, reaching Soul Rend Planet was a thing that could only be described to be as easy as breathing.
It was nothing more than the blink of an eye before Dyon had appeared with the very room his daughter was lying in. Seeing her pale complexion and her bandaged wounds, it was difficult for him to not lash out and destroy everything.
A familiar evil aura pervaded his heart as flames of black flickered within his eyes.
