Dave reached the bone palace in a few minutes. The guards at the entrance recognized him and opened the gate for him to enter.
One of them still stared at Dave, confused.
Dave related the undead's confusion to the equipment he was currently wearing. You don't say a Doom Knight wearing a Death Knight armor that much, or ever in the Dead Realm.
Dave nodded at the knights and went past them into the courtyard. He then walked up and into the Bone Palace. He was hesitating, thinking of what the king would think of him. But the last time they spoke, the Undead King had granted him an audience, and his voice can now be heard.
Dave walked up the spiral marble stairs. After a minute walk, he arrived in the throne room that was at the top of the palace.
Dagla and Samael were at the presence of the king, and they seemed to be discussing something.
Dave coughed as he entered, making his presence known.
The three turned their heads to Dave. Recognition, gratitude, and indifference faced him.
"Childe, you have come to see Us, welcome. Speak your desire," the king said, his voice monotonous, bland and far from how he used to talk to Dave.
Dave sighed and said, "Andre had said that something was going on in the world. Seeing how the undead are moving, could you be preparing to go to war?" Dave asked.
"Yes, War." The undead king said cooly.
"The Ash King, I presume?" Dave said.
"Right, it is time for all of this to end. However, Our strife with the Ash King turned out to be but a problem we need to solve. As the real reason for Our march are the deities that seek to upset the balance of power."
Dave didn't understand fully what the king said, and he didn't think to ask again would please the undead king. He didn't look like the person to repeat himself anymore. Thankfully, Dagla caught up to Dave's confusion and spoke, "The deities are gathering their troops. And the Demi-Gods want a place among them. From Gafgar's reports, you have met with Duradel Ashkar. Right?" Dagla said.
"Yeah, he was way too strong," Dave said.
"Yes, that man was the disciple to a dear friend of Mine. You have ventured in his tomb once. Unlike Ashkar, he succeeded in gaining immortality and ascended to half-Godhood. Now his quest lies in obtaining the power fragments of lesser gods and imbibes them into his being."
"The legacy items? The half-gods are gathering the legacy items that have not been discovered or have been failed in succeeding, I suppose," Dave said.
"Right, and so is that ring of yours. However, fret not. The deity that guards you will not permit its theft, it has been bound to you. However, that might change." Dagla said.
"Meaning?" Dave asked.
"The Clash of Gods has begun. And I believe you partook in the first wave. However, if you lose, your grasp of the ring of true Undeath will falter, and you will become susceptible to lose it."
"Oh, I didn't know that. I thought losing will only exclude me from participating." Dave said.
"It will, and once you lose. Many half-deities will come for your ring. And this is where we come." Dagla said.
"We protect our own, Childe." The king said. "Fight, and bring honor to the undead. And if the day comes where you fall, fold back to us. And be it, half-god, or a god we shall break them if they dare come to you with harm." The undead king said.
"Now, for the reason, we are fighting against the Ash King…" Samael pitched in and took a breath.
"The Ash King is the Son of Asmodeus. The God of Hell. He is basically a Half-God. His objective has always been to secure a divine fragment for himself. After obtaining many, he will become a deity comparable to his father. We do not wish to see that come to fruition."
"Oh, so that's why you want to stick while the iron is still hot," Dave said.
It was easy math. The Ash King was strong, but not God-Strong. If he gets his hands on the fragments, he will be a considerable threat to the legion. Nick's stunt at stirring things up with the clash of gods had some drawbacks. This was one of them.
"Indeed. Our task is to finish off the Ash King before he gains power enough to turn the balance. Our spies have informed us that he had sent a few of his demons to recruit people to his cause. You as one free to move among the ranks of visitors are tasked of destroying these Demonlings." The undead king said. Then he waved a hand, throwing a crystal sphere at Dave.
Dave inspected the item.

"Use this and find those that are aiding the Ash King." The undead king said.
A notification appeared in front of Dave.

You must slay 10 Demonlings before the Undead King marches to war with the Ash King.
Quest duration

Failing the quest will result in a loss of reputation and credibility at the Undead King's court.
Succeeding the quest will grant you the right to partake in the upcoming war against the Ash King.

'Damn, and here I thought I could have gone to the war if I liked it or not. Alright, a PVP quest. This is not bad. I can use this to hone my skill against players. The Clash of Gods will last for a while, and I need all the training I could get.'
Dave nodded at the king and said, "I'll do as you say."
Dave accepted the quest, and the king's lips curved in a slight smile.
"Go, Childe may fortune be with you."
The undead king waved Dave away and continued his discussion with the two Abyssal Knights.
Dave left the palace and headed to his settlement. Andre had told him that his weapons would be ready in a day. He didn't want to explore Conquest with low tiered gear. So he headed to revive his undead. Mainly the tengu.
When Dave arrived at the settlement, a server announcement popped into the sky.
Dave looked up and read the announcement.
***
Conquest Server Announcement!
Regarding the Clash of Gods.
From now on, all players can participate in the upcoming rounds. Players that don't have a legacy skill and end up defeating players who do have a legacy skill will hereby forfeit their legacy to the victor.
Players who have legacy skills can refrain from participating in the Clash of Gods if they fear losing it. But they will no longer be able to join the Clash of Gods again.
Due to the expected increase in the numbers of players joining the Clash of Gods, the duration of the weekly battles will be shortened to one action every 3 days.
If a player had already obtained a number of points in upgrading their legacy skills but still lose to a player without a legacy skill, the latter will preserve the points gained and can continue to upgrade the skill to a higher tier.
Victory against players without a legacy skill will grant 1 point only.
Thank you for your understanding, and we hope you enjoy the game.

"Oh, this changes a lot," Dave said to himself.
Legacy skills weren't omnipotent. The wielders can still lose to a skilled player. There are a lot of players in Conquest, and it wouldn't be surprising for them to win against the odds. With the new event, Dave thought of a certain player with a mecha suit. He didn't have a legacy but was strong enough to contend with the most powerful players of Conquest.
Also, this didn't mean he was the only one with extraordinary ability, and there could be others who have decided to hide their unique and hard-earned skills. Something that could give them an edge in the heat of battle.
Dave looked at his ring and thought, 'It's gonna be more interesting now. I guess trying to hide Deadra's Sword and Shield will no longer be an option. I'm gonna have to go all out."
Dave smiled and continued into his settlement.
