SSS-Class Suicide Hunter (Web Novel) - Chapter 270: White Lion Faith (3)

Chapter 270: White Lion Faith (3)

This chapter is updated by NovelFree.ml

Translator’s Note:

Hello everyone, considering this is the first chapter where I’ve been ahead of the old translator, I imagine a lot more of you guys are joining me on this journey from this chapter. Before you begin reading the chapter, I wish to let out some thoughts and context beforehand.

For the new readers, my terminologies are very different from the old translators. I’ve followed and amended the terms used by the manhwa translators and modified a lot of things. From my comparison, I also seem to be translating a newer version of the novel, which has some things modified by the author/publisher, hence the terms are vastly different, especially in the latest ‘Race Wars’ and ‘Race Wars Part II’ arcs. So, at the very least, I would recommend everyone to re-read the ‘Race Wars’ arcs. I understand that not everyone would like my term changes and my methods, and I respect that. I am not a perfect translator, I doubt anyone is. Especially with a novel like this one, where the interpretations are so poetic and it’s really up to the reader how they want to interpret a lot of things. This is simply ‘my version’ of the novel. It’s my way of showing love to the series.

Now, time for some context, as some of you might have been wondering how this release rate was possible. I’ve basically been grinding translations for this novel at a, quite frankly, concerning rate during my uni semester break. I had initially decided to catch up within a couple months, but well, I ended up getting hyper-obsessed and did 10-15 chapters a day until today, when I’m caught up to the old translators. I plan to reduce my release rate soon, since I don’t want to spend my entire 1-month semester break on my desk, typing while looking at a laptop screen, but I promise that I plan to consistently keep translating this novel until its end.

I hope you all will continue enjoying this hyper-obsessed fan’s translations. Please do not hesitate to report any possible change suggestions or fixes by reaching out in our discord server.

For the ones who are still too lazy to re-read, here are some terms which will help you in this chapter, as well as coming chapters:

Pure Humans Tribe: Humans - Sword Saint’s race

Ghost Tribe: Dokkaebi - Viper’s race

Mountain Calamity Tribe: Snails - Heretic Inquisitor’s race

Gill Fish Tribe: Mermaids - Paladin’s race

Vampiric Tribe: Vampires + Dream Demons - Black Dragon Witch’s race

Fairy Tribe: Elves - Countess’s race

Earth Spirit Tribe - Goblins/Hobgoblins/Asuras - King of Death’s race

Thank you and enjoy reading!

I turned my gaze away from the beautiful ash-gray refuge and looked at Uburka.

“I know such a person.”

“What?”

“I know of such a person.”

Tower Master.

I recalled someone who felt everything was their responsibility, someone who went beyond that, turning everything into their own responsibility.

“But, I am not that person.”

Kieeeeeeeee-

Distant rocky mountains.

Through the mist, a white beast climbed a soaring rock and howled. Small green creatures that feared such a beast were also sporadically visible. Gororor… They seemed to be deliberating whether to climb up to where the white beast was, clinging to the bottom of the rock.

“I chose a different path,”

I held my sword upright.

“You can blame me, of course. The mistakes you make, the curses you'll hear from others, it all might feel like it's my fault for carelessly choosing you as my tribe and exposing you to the world. For bringing you into existence. For raising you. So you can blame me, but---"

"......."

“Come to me when you are stronger than me.”

I smiled slyly.

“Come to me if you can make them happier than I can!”

I swung the Holy Sword.

Shiny, the Goddess of Protection, shone brightly as its name suggested, cleaving the ash-stained dark clouds in two.

Through the gap created by the cleavage, a glimpse of blue sky appeared.

“Make them more lovable than I do! More splendid! Smarter! More beautiful! If such a person comes and complains--- I will gladly admit my failure in parenting!”

Until then.

“I am the mightiest father there is!”

I clenched my right hand.

“Ester!”

“Yes, family head.”

Suddenly.

Without any warning, Ester knelt on one knee beside me. She must have been waiting somewhere else than our hunters' waiting room, ready to appear at any moment when called.

“Ester, the advisor to the family head, is here.”

“The rain looks pretty pathetic, doesn’t it!”

"......."

Ester glanced upward. Despite the rain reminiscent of the jungle's rainy season pouring down, Ester appeared indifferent, as if looking at a drizzle on a neighborhood street.

“Yes. It seems trivial.”

“Clear it away!”

I laughed and extended my right hand.

Ester also smiled and firmly grabbed my hand.

“Okay, family head. I will clear it.”

Our auras resonated through the clasped hands. It wasn't just the mingling of red and black aura becoming stronger. We circulated a single vision, a single drop of aura. A downpour of blood-red rain on some continent,

Demonic Formations Art.

Special Method.

Graceful Rain of Lamenting Heavens.

Rain falls.

“The primordial fear was terrible, wasn’t it, Earth Spirit Tribe?”

Rain falls.

“The sky of those ignorant times was merely gloomy, only causing unsettling premonitions and disquiet in your hearts, so profound that they could hardly surface.”

Rain falls.

“Those are no longer the rains we fear!”

Rain falls.

The resentment of villagers unjustly burned alive, the screams of countless deaths faced in the empire, all contained in the crimson raindrops, fall in the [Demonic Formations Art] spread by the Asuras.

Thud!

Thick fog is penetrated by the blood droplets reaching the ground in an instant. Thud! Before the fog could recover, another drop of blood falls, mercilessly eroding the base of the fog. Thud! Thudududu! Thudududu! Thud! Thudududu……

“The fears you will face from now on are even more terrible!”

The fog couldn't withstand the carpet bombing of blood droplets. It burst, dwindled, was crushed, and was torn to pieces by the raindrops.

What Demonic Formations Art revealed was the bare ground of the jungle.

A land not mystified or enchanted, simply existing.

-Our meticulously executed formation…

-Impossible, Ugor. We're overpowering him in terms of aura…

The Earth Spirit Tribe came into view as the ground was exposed.

They were in a state of confusion. They had planned to conceal themselves in the fog, attacking me with unseen swords and axes. The strategy failed before it even began.

I bared my chest and spoke.

“The place we live, this tower… From the 50th floor upward, it’s filled with masters from all sorts of worlds. Surely you don’t think all parents are like us, do you?”

-.......

“We conversed with you, we understood each other. You fighting me now is not out of dissatisfaction, but merely to achieve a dignified end.”

Ester’s Autumn Rain had melted all the fog away.

All the gathered tribes in the jungle were now looking at me.

“But the ones gathered on the 50th floor will be different.”

I said.

“The Princess mentioned it. The content of each tower is different, but from the 30th floor, they are generally similar.”

"......."

“To accept you as humans, to embrace you as children, our hunters first need to accept all this as reality. Not as NPCs or dungeons. They must see all of you as living beings right before their eyes.”

But.

How many towers have prepared themselves in this way?

Even our tower, even when the Black Dragon Witch was the second in the hierarchy, before my regression, didn’t we consider the tower a kind of [game]?

“How many of them cleared the 40th floor by annihilating their nurtured tribes?”

I remembered the 14 Asuras who perished in my previous tower, and I also looked at the hundreds of thousands of Asuras now before me.

“If there’s one such tower, that's millions. Ten towers, hundreds of millions. A hundred towers, billions. Countless corpses will be beneath those who stand triumphant.”

Before I knew it…

The vassals of the King of Death Family had gathered around me.

Kim Yul, with long hair tied with the hairband I gave, quietly looked down at the jungle. Silvia Evanair, with her hands clasped in front, stood demurely, unfazed by the millions of humans gazing up at her.

“Those who don’t see people as people.”

The former Flame Emperor.

“Those who flatter such people as heroes.”

The former me.

“That’s exactly what lies there.”

I pointed to the red sky with my hand.

“That’s the world beyond the 50th floor.”

If that's not hell, then what is?

[Quest Progress.]

[The Vampiric Tribe's voting begins.]

Then.

The Black Dragon Witch landed silently beside me with a thud.

She stood emotionlessly next to me, gazing at the world drenched in blood.

“The words of the King of Death are true.”

“Anastasia.”

“It’s hard to see this as the fault of us humans. After all, the wolves that appear in the hunting grounds are called monsters, and people who appear in the Aegim Empire are identified as [NPCs] when read with psychic powers. Well, the Aegim Empire might be like that because it’s a reenactment of a once destroyed world.”

The Black Dragon Witch tilted her lips, almost in a sneer.

“Humans kill people even if there are reasons not to. If it’s of no consequence to kill, it’s essentially granting them a license for free slaughter. If the world beyond the 50th floor of all towers is a battleground as the King of Death said... it might be even harder to find someone who isn't a slaughterer.”

The Black Dragon Witch turned her head.

Bats were hanging from the thick palm branches.

“Sorry. I've been a nuisance in your conquest of the continent. Even as a mother.”

-.......

“But this world is wider than you think. The enemies you have to face are more than you can imagine. Of course, monsters that you cannot defeat."

-.......

“You have watched over other tribes for thousands of years. The Earth Spirit Tribe would never betray you first. Neither would the Gill Fish Tribe or the Ghost Tribe. Even now, the Mountain Calamity Tribe and the Fairy Tribe. Kids, your task isn't to chase dominion over this cramped continent and quarrel with meek tribes.”

The Black Dragon Witch smiled gently.

“Unite, and strike down the enemies that will threaten your world.”

Flap, flap.

The bats flapped their wings.

“We are a blood alliance.”

[Stage Clear.]

[The 43rd floor has been cleared!]

The 43rd floor.

A level I had reached in my previous world before regression— surpassing the 40th floor, which even the Flame Emperor failed and the Black Dragon Witch despaired.

We had successively conquered those stages.

But that wasn’t all.

[Quest Progress.]

[The Dream Demon Tribe's voting begins.]

‘Huh?’

I blinked and looked at the Black Dragon Witch.

The Dream Demon Tribe wasn't originally part of the tribes we were taking care of.

She then gave me a small smile as our eyes met.

“Kim Gong-Ja, Sometimes you see me as too simple.”

“What?”

“There are others who are frantically working to clear stages, not just you. Remember I told you I exhausted all my points bringing in the Dream Demon Tribe, inevitably failing. Have you ever thought about what I, someone of my standing, would risk failure for?”

"......."

I couldn’t help but be slightly astonished.

“Not a single objection…”

“Well, let's just say I've successfully concluded various contracts. Even among friends, contractual secrets should be respected, right?”

The Black Dragon Witch winked lightly.

[Stage Clear.]

[The 44th floor has been cleared!]

Haha.

Truly.

"......."

I smiled and turned around.

“Uburka.”

I looked at my son.

“You know, I don’t consider choosing you as a mistake.”

"......."

“Even if I go back, I would choose you. Even if I'm reborn, I would raise you. If I am the best father to you, then you are, to me, the best children.”

“I know.”

Uburka jerked his jaw, saying Ugohr.

“I know. Daddy, but just......"

“If you challenged me to a duel because you wanted to lighten the burden I carry, wanting to become stronger and join me.”

“There’s no need.”

I smiled brightly.

“Just as I am precious to you as a world, you are also precious to me as a world. You see the world as I see it. You feel as I feel. But, Uburka. I will also see the world as you see it and feel as you feel.”

"......."

“We are people of the same world.”

I took Uburka’s hand.

“We are humans.”

I looked beyond Uburka at the many Earth Spirit Tribe members arrayed.

“My dear friends.”

“There will be those who did not enjoy the same fortune as us, beyond the 50th floor. Even those who regard all this as a mere game, becoming kings and lords, indulging in debauchery.”

[Quest Progress.]

[The Earth Spirit Tribe's voting begins.]

“Let’s go.”

[Vote counting complete.]

“In the name of the Demonic Heaven. With the steps and words of the Blood Fire.”

[Option 2 votes: 00.00%]

“Let’s show them who we are.”

Uburka remained silent.

But it was not an ominous silence; it was a silence to embrace my words. Uburka’s fangs were always sharp, so it didn’t take him long to chew and digest my words.

“Shall we kill those who deserve death, daddy?”

“We shall rightfully save those who need to live.”

“How will we recognize who should live, how they should live?”

“By my death.”

I produced a dagger from my bosom.

Then I tapped the tape-wrapped handle of the dagger.

“By their life.”

"......."

So it is, then.

Uburka nodded, muttering to himself.

He then firmly grasped my hand that tapped the dagger.

Without words.

“It’s okay.”

I stroked Uburka’s red arm.

[Option 1 votes: 100.00%]

“We are stronger and more capable than any tower.”

[Stage Clear.]

“And thus capable of saving countless worlds, numerous people.”

[The 45th floor has been cleared!]

I looked down.

To my children who would be known as Asuras from now on, who will stand in the heavens one day, the Heavenly Demons who were once at the lowest.

I reached out to those children.

“Let’s ascend the tower together.”
