Chapter 36 The Past

Note: Author indicates that this chapter explains the male lead’s nasty behavior of shooting on his wife in the previous kitchen story.

“Little Guo’er, when you get pregnant, your n*pples will definitely turn bigger and redder, and then, they’ll start secreting sweet milk… Your n*pples will also become extremely sensitive. As soon as I touch you, you’ll definitely be leaking milk…”

“Stop talking!” Tang Guo bashfully covered the man’s mouth..

Cheng Yuzhou smiled and pulled down the girl’s hand, continuing his unfettered imagination, “Then you’ll beg me to suck your milk…and that taste…tsk tsk…just thinking about it makes me ravenous…”

The more Cheng Yuzhou spoke, the more excited he became, and the light in his eyes became increasingly brighter.

“Then do you want me to get pregnant with a baby?” Tang Guo asked thoughtlessly.

When Cheng Yuzhou heard the girl’s casual question, he was a little startled for a while. This time, Tang Guo took hold of the reins.

“Yuzhou, do you want me to give birth to a baby for you in the future?”

Tang Guo felt guilty when she asked this.

The girl also knew that their current relationship wasn’t that deep, their yearning for physical pleasure was far greater than emotional attachment. So asking this question was deliberately making it a little hard for Cheng Yuzhou to answer.

“Well, I do want you to give birth to children for me in the future. It would be better if you can have two! But of course, that is only if you are willing to bear them.”

Cheng Yuzhou paused for a while before finishing the words that made Tang Guo dumbfounded. Then, he started calmly fixing the girl’s clothes again.

Tang Guo was too taken aback and surprised that she couldn’t tell whether Cheng Yuzhou was joking around or being serious for a while.

“What do you mean? What do you mean by giving birth for you in the future? Do you plan to maintain an extramarital relationship with me, and then treat our children as b*stards or illegitimate daughters?”

Tang Guo who was usually carefree and without worries, enjoying her current life as a high school student, suddenly brought up the topic of children and actually became unprecedentedly serious.

Cheng Yuzhou ignored Tang Guo’s denouncement and glare, taking the neatly dressed girl into his arms with a smile and stroking her hair lovingly.

“I won’t let my child be without a father. I originally planned to sue for divorce. Before you came, I had already hired a private investigator to collect evidence. After you came, I became even more unable to stand this marriage filled with lies and betrayal.”

Tang Guo lifted her head from the man’s arms and asked in surprise: “You’ve been planning to get a divorce since a long time ago? Why?”

“If I didn’t explain it to you clearly, you wouldn’t have the mind to concentrate in your afternoon classes, wouldn’t you? Forget it, let’s skip those classes in the afternoon. After all, this isn’t the first time anyways. I’ll go make a call to arrange it, you take the keys and wait for me in the car.”

Afterwards, Cheng Yuzhou drove Tang Guo near the top of the mountain and took out a blanket from the car to spread on the grass in the shade. The two sat there, chatting while watching the scenery.

“I once had a child, a boy.”

After Cheng Yuzhou said this, a long silence appeared, one filled with sorrow, depression, bitterness and sadness.

Tang Guo didn’t say any comforting words that would’ve been of no use, Instead, she hugged Cheng Yuzhou’s waist and leaned her head atop the man’s shoulders.

Cheng Yuzhou also wrapped an arm around Tang Guo’s waist, propping his head on the girl’s, and together, they remained silent for a while.

“After a long time had passed since the child was lost, I had discovered by accident that we didn’t even share the same blood.”

Cheng Yuzhou’s turbulent mood finally calmed down after much trouble, and he began to narrate to Tang Guo about the love-hate relationship he had with wife in a flat and straightforward tone.

“Whose child was it?”

“It was my wife’s ex-lover. Her lover was a married man who wanted to have an affair but didn’t want to take responsibility. After my wife and I met, she took advantage of me being drunk and sent me home together with my friend, then, she stayed the night at my home.

“Did you guys do it?”

“I don’t know, I had lost consciousness after getting drunk, so I didn’t know how I got home. Later on, my wife was found to be pregnant, so we immediately held a shotgun marriage.”

“What happened next?”

Upon realizing that Cheng Yuzhou had stopped talking and had started to blank out, Tang Guo asked in continuity.

“After the child was born, he started living in the hospital almost everyday because he was easily afflicted with minor illnesses like colds, fevers and the like.

Cheng Yuzhou started to choke up a little when he said this. After taking a short break, he then continued.

“After he was finally cured, his illness soon relapsed. We hired two nannies to take turns in taking care of the child but he still fell sick. The child was too young. He couldn’t withstand the constant torment and before he could even turn 1, he passed away.”

Tang Guo could already hear the faint whimper in his voice and her heart felt similarly pained as though a needle was stabbing it but she could only hug Cheng Yuzhou’s waist tighter in comfort.

Cheng Yuzhou turned around and picked Tang Guo up, letting her sit on top of him. Then, he buried his head into the girl’s neck and cried silently.

The man’s hot tears flowed endlessly down the girl’s neck, soon soaking her shoulder.

Tang Guo couldn’t think of any ways to comfort Cheng Yuzhou, and her heart was brimming with sympathy, grief and distress, so she started crying together with him.

The two people hugged each other tightly under the shade of the trees, on top of the empty mountain. Not a word was uttered as one cried loudly in sadness while the other cried silently.

After a long time, Cheng Yuzhou gradually calmed down and lifted his head from Tang Guo’s neck. The man’s eyes were teary and red, tears streaming down his entire face.

Tang Guo took out a tissue from her skirt pocket and gently wiped Cheng Yuzhou’s face before blowing her own nose.

The man shut his eyes while his arms were still around Tang Guo’s waist. He quietly cooperated with the girl’s action and after the girl was finished with his face, she started wiping her own.

“At that time, I felt like the sky was collapsing and I wanted to kill myself. Why didn’t I pay enough attention to the child’s sickness? If I had quit my job and taken care of the child at home, instead of just asking for leave while the child was in the hospital, would the child still be alive right now?”

“Yuzhou, you can’t think like that. Nobody was in the wrong for this matter so nobody should think like that.”

Tang Guo stroked Cheng Yuzhou’s head, trying to comfort him and prevent his thoughts from spiralling into the wrong direction.

“No! I already know whose fault it was! If it weren’t for her, this tragedy wouldn’t have happened at all!”

“Why do you say that? Did you find out something afterwards?”

This was a very difficult topic, because every word he uttered reopened a wound that was already starting to scab and the old wounds once again started to bleed.

But Tang Guo couldn’t hold herself back from asking, because sooner or later, he would have to clarify the matter.

“After the child had gone, I was depressed for a long time, and the relationship between me and my wife dropped to a freezing point. We all complained in our hearts about the other party not having spent enough time with the child.”

“Don’t blame yourself, this situation can’t be blamed on you.”

Tang Guo heard this and couldn’t help but persuade Cheng Yuzhou.

“Later on, I had wanted to remedy our precarious marriage, so I bought a bouquet of roses and went to the hospital to pick up my wife after work. I didn’t think that I would accidentally see her together with the doctor, arguing secretly in the staircase.”

“What were they arguing about?”

“It turns out that this doctor was her former lover. At first, the married doctor had wanted for her to get an abortion after discovering that she was pregnant, and even abandoned her. For the sake of having a connection with that doctor forever, she quickly found a person to marry and even gave birth to that child.”

“Yuzhou, are you saying that the child wasn’t yours?”

“I was very furious that she deceived me, but I didn’t care whether the child was related to me or not. Since the child had already come to my side to be my son, I would’ve become his father all his life. But she killed my child!”

“Didn’t the child pass away due to sickness?”

“That was what my deranged wife did in order to make the child fall sick.”

“What did you say?” Tang Guo’s eyes widened in surprise.

“In order to have a reason to pester that doctor, she secretly often bathed the child in cold water or exposed him to cold wind behind my and the nannies’ back. The child was just a small baby, he couldn’t even speak or complain and was too weak to fight against ailments.

Cheng Yuzhou said as his tears trickled down like a string of broken beads. Tang Guo patiently wiped the man’s face.

“But didn’t she give birth to the child?”

“That’s what makes it even more chilling and hateful! When I heard the truth, I rushed inside to beat her. The doctor tried to stop me so I ended up beating the doctor instead.”

“Were you fine that time? Weren’t you also hurt by the doctor?”

Cheng Yuzhou smiled and pecked Tang Guo’s cheek, “Don’t worry. It was all in the past. It doesn’t hurt anymore.”

“Tang Guo cupped Cheng Yuzhou’s face and rubbed the tip of her nose against his affectionately.

“The detective that I hired hasn’t caught any substantive evidence of their affair up until now as well as that woman’s incriminating evidence of harming my child. I’ve only been pretending to keep up a farce with her, just to make them lower their vigilance.”

“You should just find some other reasons to sue for divorce .Don’t involve yourself with that kind of person anymore, they’re not worth it.”

Tang Guo held Cheng Yuzhou’s head and kissed him on the forehead, coquettishly persuading the man.

“En, I’ll listen to Little Guo’er. I originally planned to find out the truth, ask justice for my child and drag the doctor and her down to ruin. But now that I have you, I don’t think like that anymore.”

Tang Guo hugged Cheng Yuzhou’s waist and buried her head into the man’s chest. Cheng Yuzhou put his chin on top of the girl’s head and stayed quiet for a while before continuing to speak.

“The child has already left and I don’t want his reputation to be dragged into the quagmire by his mother’s notoriety. The child has already suffered too much, so I hope he’ll go straight to heaven.”

“En.”

The two remained in each other’s arms in silence until the sun had set and the houses beneath the mountain began to light up.
