Chapter 4033: Charge

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

No one could have imagined that the droplet-shaped creature would actually target the entire battlefield. If the river of droplets fell, everyone would die. However, it was unknown how much that would increase the Immortal’s karmic chain.

Lu Yuan and the others could not understand the situation. Did the Immortal bug really dare to do such a thing?

At the edge of the battlefield was Tuo Lin, still carrying a statue of Lu Yin on his back. He steadily walked deeper into the battlefield. Turning around would allow him to easily retreat and avoid the falling river of droplets, while going forward would place him in the same situation as everyone else on the battlefield.

He did not hesitate to walk towards the center of the battlefield. “Master, your disciple knows that your heart is with the Tianyuan. I will carry you with me. If we die, we will die together.

“You’re right, Little Ruyu, I think the same. Master can’t be left without a home. I really want to drive those bugs away and protect Master’s home.

“What? Oh, you don’t need to blame yourself. You can’t defeat this enemy. Helping me get closer to the battlefield is already very good.

“Don’t worry, Little Ruyu, I’ll never put Master’s statue down. You won’t let go either? I know, Master will always be with you and me.”

Far away, outside of the battlefield in a different direction, Yu Leng stared into the distance in shock. “The Heavens Sect actually managed to hold back the Nest civilization’s invasion? They’ve even held back an Immortal? That’s too terrifying! Luckily, we never tried to directly go against the Heavens Sect.”

In front of him, Mo Bai calmly watched the battle. Neither took the opportunity to step onto the battlefield, but they also did not leave. She simply watched the war. No one could tell what she was thinking.

In the Aevum Inch, Lu Yin’s expression turned grim. This should be impossible. The bug Immortal would never dare to directly strike at everyone. Doing so would ruin the Immortal.

“Don’t worry. This old man is certain that it is impossible,” Master Qing Cao said.

When the droplet creature had released the river of droplets across the battlefield, Lu Yin had immediately informed Master Qing Cao of the matter, wanting to understand the limit of what was allowed by an Immortal’s karmic chain. Master Qing Cao had answered with absolute certainty; the Immortal would not dare to attack the entire battlefield.

While that attack would certainly annihilate all the Tianyuan cultivators, the Immortal would also be unable to take action ever again. They would be reduced to nothing more than a tool that could survive endlessly.

It would be no different from dying together with humanity.

An Immortal perishing with just one human megaverse? Clearly, that was impossible.

If such a cost could exterminate the entire human civilization, then such a decision could be considered, and it would also prove that the Nest civilization had more than one Immortal.

However, the current situation would only deal with the Tianyuan alone for a steep cost.

“A single Immortal sacrificing themselves to exterminate the Tianyuan’s human civilization? To be blunt, it’s not worth it,” Master Qing Cao stated. The truth was that he hoped that the bug Immortal would attack. That would mean one less enemy Immortal, and it would also grant the Nine Odysseys Megaverse and the Spirit Nidus a bit of safety.

While there were indeed a large number of Spirit Nidus cultivators in the Tianyuan, with the passing of a few eras, replacements could be raised up.

Such a cost was absolutely worth paying to eliminate an enemy Immortal.

If the human civilization believed such a cost to be worthwhile, then the Nest civilization naturally would not.

Lu Yin believed Master Qing Cao. There were too many human experts on the battlefield, and Master Qing Cao had not dared to kill even just Ancient God. Similarly, the Immortal had previously only sealed Uncle Jiang’s perception, avoiding killing the man.

Even so, Lu Yin was worried and nervous. Was it possible that the Immortal Lord had some means of bypassing a karmic chain? Was it possible that the Immortal might not even have a karmic chain at all?

“Is there any Immortal who isn’t restricted by a karmic chain?”

“Impossible. If such a thing existed, the cosmos would be in utter chaos. You must remember, life is born of the cosmos. The omniverse is always the master, not life. If an Immortal appeared without any restraints, how could the cosmos remain the master? Such a thing would be a reversal of the laws. It is simply impossible.”

Lu Yin released a breath, feeling somewhat reassured. Even so, he still kept an eye on the battlefield, relying on the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm to create karmic walls beneath the falling river of droplets in order to prevent it from actually dropping down.

He would never fully trust logic, as there were times when reason simply vanished.

In the Tianyuan, Jiang Feng remained trapped within the sphere of waterdrops. The river of droplets fell lower and lower, the pressure growing heavier and heavier.

The man focused on the droplet creature. What was it trying to do?

The Immortal continued to lower the river farther and farther, though to what end remained unclear.

Outside of the battlefield, Wang Wen observed the descending river. His eyes flashed as he took out his wireless jincan and issued an order.

A short time later, all across the battlefield, people started charging upwards, as though racing into the river of droplets and their deaths.

The bug Immortal was startled by the sight. Are these humans going to die? That can’t be.

It was lowering the river of droplets in order to force out the megaverse’s hidden expert, the one who had used karma to block the Nest civilization. Its goal had never been to actually strike the battlefield. The cost of doing so was too high, and the droplet creature could not bear it.

It would never willingly let the humans charge into the river and die there.

Such antlike creatures were not worthy of forcing the Immortal to increase its karmic chain. They were not worth that price.

That thought caused the river of droplets to suddenly contract. It shrank ten-thousandfold, until it formed a small river that suddenly surged towards Jiang Feng. Those who had been racing towards their death in the river had charged out in vain.

Beyond the battlefield, Wang Wen let out a breath of relief. He knew that the Immortal had been bluffing.

Wang Wen was not alone, as the entire battlefield let out a breath of relief.

Even on the green lotus leaf, Lu Yin did the same thing. Wang Wen’s quick wit had not only greatly reduced the pressure that the Immortal was exerting on humanity, but it had also greatly reduced Lu Yin’s own efforts. If the river of droplets had continued to fall, he would have been forced to spend all his energy erecting karmic walls.

Still, the crisis was not over yet. It was simply that Jiang Feng was the one facing all of the danger.

He was still inside the sphere of water droplets as the river slammed into it.

“Father!” Jiang Chen and Jiang Qingyue cried out at the same time that many others shouted.

Jiang Feng clenched the hilt of his sword. This was not an attack that he could directly confront. It carried much of that power that was unique to Immortals. He had to dodge; it was the only option.

Unfortunately, the sphere of waterdrops made dodging extremely difficult.

He had been trapped for a long time.

In front of him, a karmic wall appeared, and it blocked the river right as it was about to make contact.

The river fiercely slammed into the karmic wall.

Lu Yin had just erected a wall to block the descending river, but compared to the wall surrounding the megaverse, the one needed to block the river aimed at Jiang Feng was tiny. Lu Yin simply wanted to save one person, if possible. It just happened to be Jiang Feng whom he was protecting.

Jiang Feng saw an invisible power block the river. He closed his eyes, surrounding himself with nothing but darkness as clusters of flames appeared, flickering evasively.

The droplet creature’s attention was drawn to the karmic wall. It believed that the mysterious Immortal was finally taking action, and so it stopped focusing on Jiang Feng.

Karma and a river of droplets.

The powers of two Immortals collided.

The droplet creature’s eyes grew cold. Where is it?

“Why does a dignified Immortal hide your head and show your tail?”

No one answered. The karmic wall had been battered and was cracked. In the Aevum Inch, blood leaked from the corner of Lu Yin’s mouth as he desperately endured.

Master Qing Cao watched the young man with a conflicted expression.

There was a way in which Immortals could compare their strength, and that way was distance.

There were some Immortals who could influence a single megaverse with their attack, or a slightly larger range. Some could affect several megaverses, while others, at least in theory, could act without any sort of distance limiting them at all. However, such an Immortal had never before appeared in human civilization.

Master Qing Cao had to admit that, much like Greater Sancte Awe Gate, he could only affect the surroundings of a single megaverse. On the other hand, Lu Yin, while not using his own power, was able to borrow the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm and affect several megaverses. While he could only act defensively, and even if that ability was tied to the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, there was no denying just how terrifying the young man was.

When it came to strength as an Immortal, Master Qing Cao suddenly realized that Lu Yin had already somewhat surpassed him.

Through Lu Yin, the Immortal could also imagine just how terrifying Greater Sancte Green Lotus truly was.

Green Lotus’s Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm enveloped several megaverses. Not even Master Qing Cao was able to see the depths of Greater Sancte Green Lotus’s strength. The man was the stabilizing pillar of human civilization, its greatest foundation.

Greater Sancte Green Lotus had also lived for an unimaginably long time.

Pffff…

Lu Yin spat out a mouthful of blood while dissipating the karmic wall. On the Tianyuan’s battlefield, the river of droplets pushed forward. Jiang Feng had managed to escape from the water sphere, and he was racing away, but the river pursued him from behind. No one could intervene, as even a single drop from the river was powerful enough to eliminate any other expert on the battlefield.

Jiang Feng continuously evaded, but the droplet creature’s attention was still not on the man. It needed to find the hidden human Immortal.

Even so, it was very difficult for Jiang Feng to actually escape from the river, as he could not leave the battlefield.

He was not physically trapped, but the battlefield itself served as a cage.

If he left, there would be no one there to hold back the Immortal bug, and it would be able to freely kill the human experts at its whim.

The edge of the sword turned. Jiang Feng raised a hand and lightning roared, exploding across the universe as it blasted toward the droplet creature.

The Immortal did not move, and yet the lightning instantly dissipated, failing to even get close to its target.

Jiang Feng let out a helpless sigh. Since he could not escape, he would just face the enemy directly.

He did not believe that an Immortal was actually invincible.

He turned around and charged at the droplet creature.

The Immortal finally looked at Jiang Feng. “Oh? So you’re brave enough to swing your sword at me? Not bad, though still useless.”

As it spoke, the river of droplets split in two. One part continued to chase after Jiang Feng, but the other curved around behind the Immortal to shoot at the man from the front. The streams then split again, going from two to four, and four to eight. The streams twisted about, like writhing water serpents in outer space as they surrounded Jiang Feng.

Jiang Feng’s eyes snapped open. He let the current surge against him as all of heaven and earth fell under the pull of momentum.

Breathe. Breathe. Breathe.

Each breath made the stars tremble, and thunder roared endlessly across his body.

Countless eyes stared on as the man became a golden meteorite that pierced through the water to barrel straight towards the droplet-shaped creature.

The Immortal was taken aback. So that’s it. This man cannot withstand the full power of the river, but after I divided it, he was willing to risk a direct clash. However, even if you come close to me, so what?

Jiang Feng closed in on the droplet creature. From above his head, streams from the river fell, crashing down with shocking fierceness.

His body dropped, and he coughed up blood, but he did not give up. He continued forward.

From the side, another stream swept over, the impact leaving half of his body numb. He continued forward.

From below, water surged up and slammed into him.

Jiang Feng’s mouth opened so that he could spit out blood. He was almost unable to endure, and yet he pressed on.

In Whitecloud City, Liu Pianran was silently sitting in the seat that Jiang Feng had occupied during the time he had been lost in the darkness. Her husband and children had all gone to fight. She could only wait, so wait she would. No matter the outcome, she would endure it.

The golden meteorite drew closer and closer to the droplet creature.

The Immortal observed with some interest. “It seems that you do not truly understand Immortals.”

With that, it dispelled the streams of water. Then come, allow me to show you true despair.

Jiang Feng’s eyes were the color of blood. He was bleeding from his ears, mouth, and eyes, yet he did not care at all. The only thing in his sight was the Immortal. Nothing else mattered, and nothing else existed. Darkness closed in around him, so he shut his eyes and charged forward.
