Chapter 4036: The Peak Of Life

This chapter is updated by JustRead.pl

Home, home… Emperor Slayer also had a home. He did not like his home, though he had taken refuge in many different places and met many people. Did he want to die in his homeland? No, but he also did not want to die in the Tianyuan. What kind of ending would that be, being toyed to death?

He had thought that the Tianyuan was a paradise, but it had become his grave. If word of this made it back, how would Emperor Slayer ever show his face again?

He was Emperor Wu Slayer! He did not want to die, and no one would make him die.

“You want to kill me? Just what are you supposed to be?” Emperor Slayer lunged forward, charging at the massive droplet.

Huh? Su Shidao was stunned. Did he go insane?

The droplet was pressing down on everyone’s hearts. Whether by design or not, it fell extremely slowly while making everyone despair as death approached. There was a rhythm to death, and it matched the rhythm of the droplet’s descent.

It was the rhythm of the megaverse’s civilization going extinct.

At that moment, everyone understood that resistance was useless—at least, everyone aside from the one figure who was charging forward, Emperor Slayer.

He rushed past Ancient God, Lu Yuan, and all the others. He raced past swarms of insects and even blasted by Luo Chan. No one stopped the beast. Watching him throw himself into the fire was also amusing to see.

At least, that was what Luo Chan thought. Shan Xiao shared that emotion.

Only Emperor Slayer did not find his actions amusing.

He was entirely focused on the giant droplet as he arrived at a place close to Zhao Ran and Jiang Feng. As the droplet creature stared at him in puzzlement, Emperor Slayer raised his right index finger. “Senior, you have my thanks. Now, go for me!”

At that moment, Emperor Slayer was the center of everyone’s attention.

Countless eyes watched as that finger caused the void to warp as it traced out a growing arc. Light gathered quickly and formed a vast flow that resembled a star. Suddenly, it all collapsed into a blade of energy that stabbed at the giant droplet.

The blade struck the droplet, and countless eyes stared on in disbelief as the droplet was pierced through. The blade shot straight through the droplet, stabbing across to the other side.

There was a thunderous boom as the enormous droplet exploded. The blast swept out to the sides, cleaving the universe in two.

Above the tear, ripples spread out from the blade.

It was a scene that could be seen even from outside the Tianyuan.

Lu Yin was the one who saw these events play out the most clearly.

Through the Heavenly Karmic Macrocosm, he stared at the Tianyuan in a daze. He could no longer see the battlefield. The explosion of the droplet had split the universe in two, with the battlefield down below and the sky up above.

Lu Yin could only see that energy blade. It was vast, majestic, and utterly peerless.

It was an attack that exceeded his comprehension, and it was unimaginably terrifying.

At the same moment, Master Qing Cao shot to his feet and turned to stare in the direction of the Tianyuan. “What just happened?”

“You felt that?”

Master Qing Cao’s expression grew solemn. “That was an Immortal. What a sharp aura! Don’t tell me that that was the Immortal bug.”

If it was, he had no wish to fight it.

Lu Yin replied, “Don’t worry, it wasn’t.”

Master Qing Cao grew puzzled. “Then where did that aura come from?”

Lu Yin turned to stare at the man. “You don’t know?”

Master Qing Cao met Lu Yin’s gaze with a stunned expression. Could it be- Wait, he’s testing me.

“I don’t know.”

Lu Yin’s eyes narrowed as he scrutinized Master Qing Cao.

He had indeed been testing the man, using the attack to investigate if Obscura had a presence in the Tianyuan.

Lu Yin was ninety percent sure that a member of Obscura was hiding there, and Master Qing Cao should know about it. However, the man was too cautious to admit to anything.

Logically, aside from that hidden member of Obscura, there were no other Immortals in the Tianyuan.

Is this old fox lying with his eyes wide open?

Master Qing Cao continued to stare at Lu Yin. “What just happened? Could Greater Sancte Green Lotus or Greater Sancte Blood Tower have returned?”

Lu Yin looked away. “No idea.”

“You’ve been watching. How could you not know? Lord Lu, if that attack was made by that Immortal bug, there’s no need for us to continue on. We should hurry back to the Nine Odysseys Megaverse. We might still be able to help defend that megaverse.”

“I just said that it wasn’t. The Tianyuan is still safe.”

“Truly?”

“Why else do you think I’d be so calm?”

Master Qing Cao studied Lu Yin for a moment before letting out a breath and sitting back down in a cross-legged position. “I hope that you’re right. Do not be impulsive. The survival of the entire human civilization can hang on a single thought.”

Lu Yin ignored the comment and resumed watching the events in the Tianyuan.

Emperor Slayer had released that attack, but how had the beast managed to release something so terrifying? Had he hidden his strength? No, that was impossible. That did not match his personality at all.

Lu Yin slowly released a breath. Regardless of how Emperor Slayer had done it, he had blocked the Immortal bug’s blow and bought the Tianyuan a bit more time.

Most likely, that bug could not release another attack at that level anytime soon.

There were just two days remaining before the green lotus leaf reached the Tianyuan. They need to keep stalling.

In the Tianyuan, the energy blade faded away, and the shockwave that had severed the universe also dissipated.

Every eye was staring at Emperor Slayer in utter disbelief. It was as if they were seeing the man—no, the beast—for the first time.

Even Jiang Feng was dazed. Was that really Emperor Slayer?

He remembered just how arrogant the beast had been when he had first arrived in the Tianyuan. He had only quieted down after being taught a lesson. How could that same beast have released such an incredible attack? It had clearly been at the Immortal level.

That blow could have destroyed the Tianyuan itself, had it landed elsewhere.

How did he manage to do that?

The droplet creature was also staring blankly at Emperor Slayer. Is this the human Immortal? It must be, though the aura doesn’t quite match. Is it or not?

Emperor Slayer stood tall in the middle of outer space. Never before had he breathed so freely before. In the Spirit Nidus, he had been hunted and forced into hiding. Then in the Consciousness Megaverse, he had been used, chased, and even enslaved. Now in the Tianyuan, he had been suppressed again. He had swallowed his anger the entire time, and at this moment, he had finally vented it all.

He slowly lowered his arm and then lifted his head to look out across the stars at an angle while muttering, “So you still managed to force it out of me.”

The droplet creature was on edge. So it really is him. This is the human Immortal. That karmic barrier was his.

Luo Chan instantly appeared behind the Immortal bug, its alarmed eyes locked onto Emperor Slayer.

Shan Xiao’s face had turned pale. So strong! So incredibly strong! How do the humans actually have such a terrifying powerhouse? These people far surpass the Third Rampart.

Why did the expert only act now? Is he really that confident?

Elsewhere, Lu Yuan and the others stared with odd expressions. Emperor Slayer? An Immortal? Impossible! This has to be a joke.

It was the greatest joke of the entire era.

Everyone stared at the beast while remembering all that he had done. Not one of his actions had so much as hinted at him being an Immortal. How had such a person unleashed such a terrifying attack?

They felt their entire understanding of the cosmos shattering. Could it be a dream?

Su Shidao, Yuan Qi, and the others from the Spirit Nidus felt that the situation was even more absurd. Had Emperor Wu Slayer, a figure of universal scorn, just saved an entire megaverse? Ridiculous!

Despite also being saved, the Spirit Nidus’s experts could not accept what they had just seen.

Speaking of which, how long is he going to hold that pose?

How long? Emperor Slayer could not say. All he knew was that he was shining brilliantly. That moment had been the peak of his life. Wait, the peak of my beast-form life? No, the peak of my life. I’m still human.

Jiang Feng quickly reacted and bowed. “I pay my respects to Senior Emperor Slayer.”

Right after that, Zhao Ran who was close, the distant Ancient God, Lu Yuan, Hongyan Mavis, and the others also bowed, followed by every human cultivator on the battlefield.

Voices echoed across the cosmos, shaking the Nest civilization’s insects.

Emperor Slayer nearly wept. Being worshipped by all humanity was just too wonderful. Maybe I should do it again?

He felt like he was floating.

Those who knew him were dumbfounded, while those who didn’t were exhilarated.

No one had expected such a master to be hiding within humanity. They finally had hope.

For a moment, the universe fell silent.

Emperor Slayer had become the center of the megaverse.

The droplet creature stared at the beast. “May I ask, are you human?”

Emperor Slayer finally lowered his gaze from the stars above and turned to examine the Immortal bug. He spoke slowly as he replied, “Your strength isn’t bad. Forcing me out shows your skill, but this ends here. Leave. I don’t want a slaughter.”

The creature softly said, “No Immortal can commit wanton slaughter. Your words are too arrogant.”

Emperor Slayer slowly smiled. It almost made him look feral. “Oh? Why don’t you try me.”

The Immortal did not reply.

Shan Xiao and the others grew warier. The insects in the swarm that surrounded them grew restless, but none of the bugs moved.

Silence returned to the universe.

“You are not human, are you? So why do you protect this civilization?” the droplet creature asked.

Emperor Slayer sighed. “Does it matter if I am human or not? Do such things have any meaning for us?”

The Immortal fell silent again.

“You broke through to the Immortal realm only recently, didn’t you?”

The droplet creature was startled. “How do you know?”

Emperor Slayer sneered. How do I know? I don’t.

Still, he had known that there was nothing wrong with saying those words. “Recent” was something that all depended on one’s perspective. The Immortal bug was looking at Emperor Slayer as though he was unfathomable, which meant that, in comparison to such an expert, the bug’s breakthrough could have only been recent. “You have not yet seen the cosmos clearly.”

The Immortal’s antennae twitched as it stared at the beast. “Since civilizations hold no meaning to you, why not abandon humanity and join our civilization? Ours is far stronger.”

Emperor Slayer reacted with a booming laugh. “They are all the same in my eyes! Enough with this nonsense. Leave. This megaverse is under my protection.”

Evident displeasure entered the droplet creature’s voice. “Even as a fellow Immortal, you may not be capable of driving me away.”

Emperor Slayer raised a brow. “Do you want to try?”

He raised his right hand and pointed his index finger at the bug.

The creature instinctively shifted to the side. The energy blade had clearly been released from that finger, destroying the massive droplet and shattering its own power. When that finger was pointed directly at the Immortal bug, it could not help but feel fear.

Emperor Slayer sneered. “Not going to try?”

The bug continued to stare at him. “Since you insist on protecting this megaverse, we will show you face and withdraw.”

Emperor Slayer suppressed the joy in his eyes and revealed only cold indifference. “That’s better.”

The bug continued to stare intensely at the beast. “However, there is one question that I would like to ask, as a favor.”

“Oh? Tell me.”

“When you released that attack earlier, you seemed to say something. Could you repeat it?”

Emperor Slayer’s eyes twitched. Damn it!

When he attacked, the only thing on his mind had been success or death, and he had just randomly blurted something out. He had never expected the attack to be so powerful that it would actually shatter an Immortal’s attack. Now, thinking back… what exactly did I say?
