Chapter 4443: Inconceivable

After pondering for a moment, Hong Xia still ultimately decided to release Bei Xia. He could not simply stop cultivating whenever he failed to understand Lu Yin's methods. Lu Yin was trying to find a way to deal with Hong Xia, and the man was actually on a very tight timeline.

One day, eight years later, Lu Yin was floating beneath a barren black mountain range. There, even the flowing water had turned black. It was somewhat viscous, and just the sight of it made people uncomfortable.

Xiang Siyu looked at the river with disgust as she lifted the raft up so that it would not touch the stream below.

Lu Yin did not care, and he simply looked up at the sky. The earth in this place was black, and yet the sky remained as blue as ever. In that case, where was the black sky illuminated by this black land?

That was where his mind was wandering when Xiang Siyu cried out, "Look!"

Lu Yin glanced over to see someone slowly walking across the black earth. Black bubbles rose up from the muddy surface and strange, disgusting creatures occasionally poked their heads up. However, none of it affected this person in the slightest. That person was Bei Xia.

After eight years, they met again. What a small world.

Bei Xia also saw the two on the raft. The sight of a raft in such a place was simply too out of place.

He looked at Xiang Siyu, who was staring at him with open curiosity. He had not been able to see her clearly the last time they met, but this time, he did. This woman had a refined, otherworldly appearance. She was beautiful beyond what could be seen in the mortal world, like a fairy flying above a black swamp. It was such a striking and fresh image.

Before anyone could even speak, Bei Xia vanished once again.

Hong Xia appeared, staring at Lu Yin in disbelief. Exactly what was going on? Why had they met again? This place was extremely far from where they had encountered each other last time. Lu Yin had to have some method to track Bei Xia.

Hong Xia knew that asking would get him nowhere, so he could only leave again.

Lu Yin just smiled and teleported away, along with the raft. He gave Xiang Siyu a look of absolute wonder, though there was also a touch more wariness in his eyes. No one could match this level of luck. For someone to gain such extraordinary luck, they must have surely lost something in return.

Could it really be like what he had mentioned before, that he was sharing in her misfortune as well as her fortune? That would not do at all.

Luck was simply too intangible. Once it turned bad, who knew what they might run into?

Elsewhere, Bei Xia was released again. This time, Hong Xia told the man to stay away from rivers. He wanted to see if Lu Yin would still run into Bei Xia and was truly curious about how Lu Yin had succeeded this second time.

Bei Xia was very obedient. In his mind, Hong Xia was both his master and his savior. Hong Xia had avenged Bei Xia and also extended his life, so Bei Xia obeyed anything that Hong Xia said.

And yet, for some inexplicable reason, Bei Xia wanted to encounter those two people again. More precisely, he wanted to see that woman, the one unstained by filth, the flying fairy.

This time, Bei Xia took a route through a desert. There were no rivers in this place, only endless yellow sand. After traveling for several years, he learned from some locals that there was a forbidden land nearby that mortals could not approach. Legends claimed that within that region lay the secret to immortality.

Bei Xia was a cultivator, so he naturally would not miss out on such a place. He entered the forbidden region, and when he opened his eyes again, he saw a landscape that was as beautiful as a painting. Figures darted across the sky, and a voice reached him. "This is Everstar, created by the Yue clan. This place does not cultivate the Path of Dispassion. Immortal Ba Yue is this clan’s ancestor. All who enter must remember this well: in this place, the Path of Dispassion is not followed."

All? Bei Xia glanced around, and his gaze suddenly froze when he met someone's eyes.

Outside of a blossoming peach grove, startled eyes set in an exquisitely beautiful face were looking at him. Is it that woman?

"Lu- Lord Lu, it's him again." Xiang Siyu was dumbfounded. Five years, just five years had passed, and yet they had run into him again already.

Lu Yin saw what happened clearly. This time, he was not focused on Bei Xia, but rather on Xiang Siyu. This woman's luck was simply too good. It was almost too much to bear. Could it end up affecting him as well?

After their last encounter, he had teleported away from the black land to arrive at Everstar. By chance, he had heard that this land belonged to a clan that did not cultivate the Path of Dispassion and that they followed Ba Yue. Curiosity had brought Lu Yin to this place, and yet Bei Xia had arrived as well.

"You may enter and seek apprenticeship." The echoing voice resounded with considerable authority, but in the very next instant, the sky collapsed, and the earth split apart. Bei Xia disappeared, and Hong Xia appeared in his place. The blossoming peach grove was reduced to ashes in the blink of an eye.

Hong Xia stared at Lu Yin. "Just how are you tracking him?"

That desert’s forbidden region could teleport people by using a power that folded space. Bei Xia had been directly sent to Everstar. Hong Xia had seen it and had not stopped it, but he had never expected that traveling to Everstar would lead to another encounter with Lu Yin.

Lu Yin frowned. "Listen, old man, don't go throwing around accusations. We were here before him."

That was precisely why Hong Xia had lost his composure. How could Lu Yin have possibly predicted that Bei Xia would travel to Everstar? Hong Xia was the one who had decided where Bei Xia would go. He was the one who had placed Bei Xia in that desert. As for the forbidden region, Hong Xia had not paid any attention to it. Everstar and Ba Yue did not matter to him at all as such things were merely part of the experience of low-level cultivators.

However, it was precisely that forbidden region, a place that he had never paid attention to, that had caused Bei Xia to encounter Lu Yin yet again.

How exactly had Lu Yin pulled this off? Waiting in advance meant that his methods were simply heaven-defying. Hong Xia felt like matters were slipping out of his control.

This was simply impossible.

Hong Xia stared intently at Lu Yin, speculation filling his mind.

Lu Yin just showed a faint smile. He appeared mysterious, but in truth, not even he understood the situation.

Hong Xia suddenly looked over at Xiang Siyu. He had not paid her any attention up until this point, but he suddenly considered her presence at Lu Yin’s side. The man was cultivating his mental state, so why would he bring a woman of no importance along with him?

Beneath Hong Xia's gaze, Xiang Siyu forcibly suppressed a chill to meet his eyes.

Hong Xia continued to stare at the woman. There was something wrong with this woman.

Lu Yin’s eyes narrowed, and he stepped forward to block Hong Xia from staring at Xiang Siyu. The two men’s gazes met. "Care for a drink?"

"Fine." Hong Xia did not refuse and moved to step onto the raft.

Lu Yin continued in a contemptuous tone, "You are not worthy."

With that, he teleported away, taking the raft with him.

Hong Xia stood where he was, dazed. He was not even angry. Instead, his mind was entirely preoccupied with Xiang Siyu. There was absolutely something wrong with that woman.

He soon looked over at Bei Xia, wondering if he should be allowed out again.

Bei Xia opened his eyes. "Who are they?"

Hong Xia replied, "My enemies."

"I see." Bei Xia looked away, but in his mind, he saw the eyes in the blossoming peach grove that had met his gaze and the stunning face that he had seen above the black earth. Enemies?

In those moments, she had looked so much like his wife. Our wedding… That beast…

At the thought of that time, Bei Xia suddenly coughed up blood and lost consciousness.

Hong Xia was greatly alarmed, and he immediately checked on the young man. Not good!

A flaw had appeared in Bei Xia's mental state.

Lu Yin, how hateful! How absolutely despicable!

This solitary flaw was enough to reduce Bei Xia's chances of becoming an Immortal by more than half. Not only that, but even if he did succeed, he would need a great deal more time than before. Despicable! So this was Lu Yin's intention all along!

Lu Yin did not know how much damage the few encounters had done to Bei Xia. At this moment, he was particularly wary of Xiang Siyu.

After all, Lu Yin was already able to fight against two-law Immortals. After his next breakthrough, there was a good chance that he would simply overtake Hong Xia entirely.

Lu Yin was even considering Hong Xia at peak performance.

Once he reached that level, there would be no further need to scheme or plot.

After thinking things over, Lu Yin decided to send Xiang Siyu back.

"You don’t want to wander around anymore?" Xiang Siyu asked in confusion.

"This is enough."

Xiang Siyu felt rather regretful. "I don't know if these years together have helped you or not, but I feel that they were worthwhile. Your path is different from mine, and the way you think about things is also different."

Lu Yin nodded. "As long as this has helped you, it’s enough. The more Immortals that humanity has, the better."

Xiang Siyu asked curiously, "Are you sending me back because of Hong Xia?"

Lu Yin did not deny it.

"Are you afraid that he will make a move against me?"

Lu Yin poured himself a cup of wine. "A little."

If Hong Xia could not understand how Lu Yin kept finding Bei Xia, the man would eventually grow suspicious of Xiang Siyu. Even if he remained wary of Obscura’s rules, no true Immortal would be unable to do anything.

Xiang Siyu smiled. "Lord Lu, a man like you is actually very charming."

That confused Lu Yin.

"Some people say things and never do them, while others do things and never say them. You do things, but you also say them. That’s quite nice. At least there are no misunderstandings," Xiang Siyu explained with a smile. Peach blossoms drifted through the air, creating a very beautiful scene.

Lu Yin looked at her. That was not accurate, as the misunderstanding had become massive. What he was mostly worried about was being affected himself.

Xiang Siyu stood up and lazily stretched, revealing her graceful curves. "Just as I’ve said before, you can use me anytime you want. I leave myself to you."

The corner of Lu Yin's mouth twitched. He took her back home.

At the same time, within Vestigium, Hong Xia spoke with Ba Se. "I wish to report the location of the Ten-Eyed Divine Crow to Obscura."

He did not avoid the issue and was direct about matters. As long as they were in Vestigium, any member of Obscura could hear what he said.

Lu Yin needed to know about this as well, as this was Hong Xia’s revenge for how Lu Yin had damaged Bei Xia.

Ba Se calmly replied, "Your current mission is still incomplete. Providing the location of the Ten-Eyed Divine Crow will not earn you a reward."

"That doesn't matter."

Ba Se remained silent, and Hong Xia proceeded to share the location of the Divine Crow.

His purpose in doing this was quite simple: if he could not get it for himself, then Lu Yin could not be allowed to get it either. For so many years, Hong Xia had made countless attempts to pluck the eyes of the Divine Crow, but he had never succeeded. At one point in time, he had even wanted to use the Divine Crow's innate abilities to kill Lu Yin, but instead of dying, Lu Yin had ended up obtaining an eye for himself. Hong Xia had only learned of that after the war’s conclusion.

At the time, Hong Xia had wanted to go and move the Divine Crow’s corpse to another location, but it was not easy to move the Ten-Eyed Divine Crow. For some unknown reason, it resisted being moved. With no other choice, Hong Xia had only been able to try to pluck out an eye once more, and he had failed.

Lu Yin had already successfully taken one eye. If he were allowed to continue to take more, he would only grow stronger.

For this reason, no matter how reluctant Hong Xia might be, he still decided to report the Divine Crow’s location to Obscura. For one, doing so weakened Lu Yin's growth potential. Additionally, this would curry favor with Obscura, improving their opinion of Hong Xia.
