Chapter 4560: Invitation

Lu Yin stood in front of Obscura's gate as he looked up at the cosmos beyond the sky of the megaverse. He then looked towards Thousand Machinations' Abyss before sitting down cross-legged, not moving again.

Thousand Machinations was not surprised. Are you not leaving? That’s probably because you are not certain what lies beyond that gate.

Given that Lu Yin’s current identity was a being of the Death Megaverse, it was reasonable for him to have some knowledge of Obscura. That gate might lead to some unknown megaverse, but it could just as easily lead to Obscura’s Vestigium. If a skeleton went there, their death would be assured.

He might as well stay where he was.

But if he stays there, how will he face the powerful enemy that might be on the other side after this current battle ends? Thousand Machinations was thinking about Lu Yin, yet Lu Yin was also thinking about the Abyssal.

What exactly were Thousand Machinations’ intentions? It was obvious that Lu Yin could not escape. Either the Lepidarch or Furball would kill him without question. If Thousand Machinations did not help, did that mean that it wanted to watch Lu Yin die?

Or did the Abyssal truly believe that Lu Yin was capable of hiding his strength so well that he was actually capable of defeating the two Immortals before him?

Not even his true self had ever been regarded so highly.

All Lu Yin could do for the time being was wait, wait for the battle outside the megaverse to be decided.

The Lepidarch had revealed its true body and was employing methods that it had never used against Lu Yin. Furball had also unleashed their second world: Green Firmament.

Lu Yin stared at Green Firmament, seeing a gear above the sky that started to turn. The four Immortal Lepids fell further and further back, afraid of being ground to death by the gear.

The power of Green Firmament was astounding. Even Lu Yin’s true body would have to be somewhat cautious if he faced this world. This was Furball's most powerful combat state.

But combat power was just one aspect. The Lepids were clearly overestimating Furball. Even if they had the opportunity to kill one or the Immortal Lepids, they would not do so as Furball did not want to increase their karmic chain.

The Lepidarch had attacked Furball because it wanted to quickly defeat this opponent with Butterfly Bloom, but it had no intention of killing Furball either.

However, Furball had actually endured for quite a long time by relying on divine energy. The Lepidarch was rather unable to see the limits of its opponent. Not only that, but the Lepid also knew that it was being watched by some being from the Death Megaverse in the shadows. Its only real option was retreat.

Before long, the battle ended. Darkness returned to the cosmos.

Lu Yin looked away. The Lepidarch had left, and it was his turn next.

Furball controlled this megaverse and could see through it at a glance, especially since Lu Yin was still beside Obscura's gate.

The green giant leaned down and bent their head low to look at Lu Yin. It was as though the giant was examining an ant.

Lu Yin slowly looked up and met Furball’s gaze.

A sound rang out with enough force to nearly destroy the universe. "Little mouse, I found you. You’re the one who lured that Lepid here, aren't you?"

Lu Yin rose to his feet, still looking up at Furball. He slowly bowed. "Chen offers his greetings, Senior."

Furball laughed wildly, the sound shaking the universe. Everything that could be seen was trembling. "Skeleton of the Death Megaverse, you have crossed the line! I can slap you dead."

Lu Yin stared up at Furball. "What good would slapping me dead do you?"

"Because you deserve to die." After saying that, Furball raised their hand and fiercely slapped it down, not wanting to waste any time talking.

Lu Yin shouted, "Thousand Machinations is watching you!"

Furball hesitated and then suddenly glanced behind itself. They looked around and eventually looked back down at Lu Yin. "What did you just say?"

Lu Yin answered in a low voice, "Thousand Machinations is nearby. The task I was given was to deal with the Lepidarch. Now that I have succeeded, it will take me back to its Abyss."

Furball laughed again. "You want to scare me with Thousand Machinations? Do you think that I will be afraid? It is just one of the Death Megaverse’s Abyssals. It’s not as if my Obscura has never killed one before. Do you know who I am?"

Lu Yin loudly replied, "If you are not afraid of Thousand Machinations, then are you also unafraid of the River of Aeons’ main stream?"

Furball was taken aback. "The River of Aeons’ main stream?"

"I have already found this megaverse’s branch stream of the River of Aeons. I found it while you were fighting the Lepidarch. If you touch me, I will disturb that branch and draw down the main stream itself."

Furball sneered. "Are you trying to scare me?"

Lu Yin calmly replied, "Perhaps."

"I can abandon this megaverse."

"You won't. This place is very important."

Furball straightened up and looked down at Lu Yin from high above.

Lu Yin was very nervous at this moment, but he had no other option. This was the only thing that he could come up with. If Furball still wanted to kill him, he could only pass through Obscura's gate.

That was also why he had stayed so close to the gate.

Furball did not attack. They simply lowered their head to take a closer look at Lu Yin. Behind the giant, the massive dining table was so large that its presence was suffocating. It felt like the entire megaverse was going to be cooked.

Lu Yin did not dare to lower his guard at all. Although Furball was powerful, they were not fast. Lu Yin knew that he had enough time to get through the gate.

Thousand Machinations watched from the distance. It could not hear the conversation between Furball and Lu Yin, but as Furball looked down at Lu Yin, even the Abyssal was curious about what the two of them were talking about.

After quite a while, Furball suddenly crouched back down, their movement startling Lu Yin so much that he nearly leaped through the gate. Fortunately, he managed to restrain himself in time.

Furball smiled at Lu Yin, their voice suddenly a great deal softer. "Little thing, do you want to join Obscura?"

Lu Yin stared blankly at Furball, thinking he had misheard. Jo- join Obscura?

He had never dreamed that Furball would say such a thing.

Furball continued to stare at Lu Yin. "Think about it. Obscura can offer you a better future than the Death Megaverse."

Lu Yin stared at Furball, still dazed. "Me? Join Obscura?"

Furball nodded. "Yes."

"I can join?"

"Of course."

"I am a skeleton of the Death Megaverse. I have been granted Bone Script."

"Merely a small problem. It depends on whether you are willing to join. Of course, you being willing still requires Obscura's approval, and there will be a test. However, I have high hopes for you."

Lu Yin was bewildered. "Why?"

Furball sized up Lu Yin before letting out a sound of admiration. "Because you are reliable enough. You managed to escape from that Lepidarch, knew to lure me over here to deal with it, and then still dared to face me directly. To do all this without even being an Immortal being is beyond rare. The last one capable of something like this was a human. Come to think of it, you are also a human skeleton… The human species is truly miraculous.

"You are definitely not weak and should be an Aberrant. My Obscura just lost an Aberrant, so it would be quite good if you joined."

Lu Yin did not answer immediately. Was Furball actually inviting him to join Obscura? This was truly interesting. He had never thought that something like this would happen. This was not anything that he had ever expected.

"This is your only chance to live. Join Obscura, and I will spare your life. If you do not join…" Furball stood up and looked down at Lu Yin from even higher. Lu Yin shrugged. "It seems that I have no choice. Fine, we’ll do as you wish."

Furball smiled. It was a smile that made it look as if they had just thought of something.

The giant dining table disappeared, and another gate of Obscura’s appeared in outer space. This one led to Vestigium.

"You are very clever and know that you can’t escape. I will go to Vestigium right now and have Ba Se invite you to join. Hehe, little thing, if you are not here when I return, when I find you again, I will make you die a miserable death because you will have humiliated me in Vestigium." After saying that, the enormous figure abruptly disappeared.

Lu Yin watched Furball leave. If not for his face being nothing but bones, his expression would definitely be very strange at this moment.

They actually invited me to join. Really, why would they come up with such an idea? That smile just now looked as if they had succeeded with some scheme.

Ba Se replied, "Strength, species, and location."

"An Aberrant. A skeleton. The Qi Megaverse."

Ba Se revealed a rare show of surprise. "A skeleton? In the Qi Megaverse?"

Furball was pleased with themself. "That's right! A skeleton from the Death Megaverse is in the Qi Megaverse right now. This skeleton has the strength to escape from a two-law Immortal. Hasn't that human Lu Yin broken through? Our Obscura currently lacks an Aberrant, so I am inviting this one to join."

Ba Se did not answer immediately. It was clear that they were considering this proposal.

"Hehe, Furball, do you know why that child Lu Yin was invited to join when he was just an Aberrant?" Old Man Hehe asked.

Furball instantly grew irritated. "Shut up. It was because we needed his ability to teleport to deal with those mangy birds."

"If you know that, then why invite this Aberrant to join? Can he also teleport?"

"He can’t teleport. If he could, he would have escaped long ago, and I would have never even had the opportunity to invite him. But this fellow belongs to the Death Megaverse."

Furball replied, "We have fought against the Death Megaverse several times in the past, and both of us have suffered casualties. To be honest, I suspect that the Death Megaverse even has spies among us, which is why I want to invite this fellow to join. He can serve as Obscura’s spy within the Death Megaverse."

"Is it alright to say such a thing so openly?" the Immortal Lord suddenly spoke up.

Furball sneered. "What does it matter if it is alright or not? Whenever someone new is invited to join Obscura, the matter needs to be reported to all members. That is the rule. If not for that, I wouldn’t have wanted to say anything. Besides…" Their voice started to rise. "I only said a skeleton from the Death Megaverse. There are countless skeletons within the Death Megaverse. Who knows which one this is?"

"Hehe, I’ve found that, ever since little Lu Yin joined Obscura, you have learned to use your brain, Furball," Old Man Hehe praised.

Furball grew furious. "Old thing, you aren’t one to say that! That human Lu Yin went from being a mere Aberrant to now daring to threaten all of us! You carry a great deal of responsibility for that.

"And don't call me Furball."

Another voice interjected. Wang Wen joined the conversation. "Cyan, this is quite clever. You can recruit both an Aberrant and someone who can help keep an eye on the Death Megaverse. I think that this is quite good."

Furball grew invigorated. They recognized Wang Wen's voice. He was the Keeper of Balance, which was no ordinary member of Obscura.

Obscura’s rules stood above the heavens. If there was anyone in Obscura who could break the rules, it was only the Keeper of Balance.

That was because the Keeper of Balance’s guiding principle was balance. He balanced both Obscura’s internal affairs and the Aevum Inch as they understood it.

The assault against the Human Trio had allowed everyone to see a demonstration of Wang Wen's ability as the Keeper of Balance. He had mobilized so many supreme powerhouses, and while his efforts had ultimately failed due to Lu Yin's breakthrough, that did not prevent Wang Wen, the Keeper of Balance, from making all the other Obscura members feel pressured.

This was without even considering his personal strength. Wang Wen was a terrifying existence who had once beaten Gao Tian so badly that the Plume Immortal had not even dared to return to its species’ main tree.

Receiving Wang Wen’s praise caused Furball to feel even more pleased with themself.
