Thousand Machinations was not watching Lu Yin. Even though the bear clearly knew that he had gone to visit Obscura, they still did not watch him.
Lu Yin took the initiative to find Thousand Machinations. "I told Ba Se that I want Chang Tian back, but it said that Chang Tian is not with Obscura."
He was not being clever and lying about this, nor was he insisting on blaming Chang Tian's disappearance on Obscura. Either would easily backfire on him.
Thousand Machinations was surprised. "Obscura did not do it? Then who did?"
"Ba Se does not know."
Thousand Machinations sighed. "Then forget it. What a pity. We lost a Ten-Eyed Divine Crow innate gift for nothing."
Lu Yin hesitated, wanting to speak, but stopping himself.
Thousand Machinations glanced over. "Say whatever you want."
Lu Yin asked, "Is there a possibility? Could Chang Tian have deliberately allowed himself to be captured and then brought here?"
Thousand Machinations froze. They looked over at Lu Yin yet said nothing.
Lu Yin continued, "I do not mean to offend you, Senior, but Chang Tian belongs to the Fourth Rampart’s Heaven's Sight Clan. That clan vanished during the Nine Ramparts War, so the possibility of a member suddenly appearing is extremely small. And if one really did appear, where are the others from the Fourth Rampart? Since Chang Tian was captured and brought here, it should be proof that he appeared not too far away from this place. There should not have been a war involving a nearby fishing civilization, right?
"That is why I grew suspicious. The biggest problem is that, if this is true, why would he deliberately allow himself to be captured? That is what I cannot figure out."
Thousand Machinations looked away. "Deliberately…? It is not impossible."
"Is it possible? I was only making a reasonable guess. Otherwise, Chang Tian's disappearance is simply far too strange," Lu Yin said.
Thousand Machinations looked out into space. "I still underestimated the Fourth Rampart. They were able to escape after the war against the Nine Ramparts back then, indicating that their strength was quite formidable. As for how strong the Fourth Rampart currently is, I truly do not know.
"If you were to say that they are targeting me, that is impossible. I never fought against the Fourth Rampart. The only possibility is that they are targeting the Death Megaverse as a whole because the one who captured him was a fragment of Devouring Trace."
Lu Yin did not say anything more, leaving things be at the right point. "There is one more thing. I do not want to deceive you, Senior."
"Did you share that the Death Megaverse is going to war with Obscura?"
"Yes."
"You are quite honest."
"I did so to gain Obscura's trust."
"But you gave true information."
Lu Yin stared at Thousand Machinations' back. "True? Is it true?"
Thousand Machinations glanced back, meeting Lu Yin's eyes with a smile. "It is."
Lu Yin met Thousand Machinations’ gaze. "I am willing to make up for this, but please believe me, Senior. I truly did this to gain Obscura's trust. Ba Se now trusts me greatly. If the Death Megaverse needs it, I can lure out a member of Obscura and kill them."
Thousand Machinations laughed despite itself. "Which member?"
"Anyone. As long as there is a chance, I can lure one of them out," Lu Yin said. "The one I am most confident about at this moment is Cyan."
He sold out Furball without the slightest hesitation. If Furball's life could earn the Death Megaverse’s trust, or even make them willing to let him become an Abyssal, that would be best.
Thousand Machinations did not care. "There is no need for now. The game between the Death Megaverse and Obscura cannot be decided by one or two traitors. Whether it is you, the toad, or the existence hiding within Obscura who is helping us, none of you can alter the true situation. Your existence has merely added a little amusement to this game. That is all."
Lu Yin stared at Thousand Machinations in astonishment. They had actually made such a claim. Could that really be the case?
Impossible.
Old Sixth had managed to climb to the position of Abyssal and killed Devouring Trace, while someone else was helping the Death Megaverse from within Obscura. The remaining members of Obscura were all far from simple. How could all of this merely just be for some amusement?
But when Lu Yin considered the wager between Wang Wen and Thousand Machinations, it did seem that his identity as a traitor to both sides had never been taken seriously by either one at all, which somehow made Thousand Machinations' claim rather convincing.
"Anything else?" Thousand Machinations asked.
Lu Yin said, "From Obscura, I learned of the Lepidarch’s location."
Thousand Machinations nodded. "That is still your mission. I gave it to you, not the Death Megaverse. If you do not want to kill the Lepidarch, that is up to you."
Lu Yin respectfully said, "Since you gave me the task of killing the Lepidarch, Senior, I will complete it no matter what it takes."
Thousand Machinations slowly smiled, and sparks suddenly flashed across the mechanical half of their head. Lu Yin even worried that the bear might simply explode. "That is what you told Ba Se in Vestigium, is it not?"
Lu Yin was silent. "…"
Thousand Machinations continued, "Go, if you are willing. The ruins on the Lepidarch’s back that are related to Grand Clarity have a certain reference value, while fighting the Lepidarch to the death will help you break through the limits of your own potential. This is one method, and while it is not very efficient, you can still attempt it. Consider it as saving me a bit of effort."
Lu Yin asked, "Then when should I go?"
"Whenever you want." Thousand Machinations did not care.
Lu Yin thought for a moment."For the time being, I will not see much progress in my power level. Since I know the Lepidarch's whereabouts, even if I do not act against it, I still need to keep an eye on it, in case even Obscura's gates are unable to track it. In that case, I will go now."
Thousand Machinations grunted. "If you go now, you will miss the competition for the next Abyssal."
Lu Yin replied in a bitter tone, "You will never allow me to become an Abyssal, Senior, so there is no reason for me to join in the excitement."
Thousand Machinations had their back to Lu Yin and said nothing. He bowed to the bear once more, took out a gate, and then left.
This gate was connected to Vestigium. His skeleton clone did not have a gate that directly led to the Lepidarch, so he had to go through Vestigium.
Once Lu Yin was gone, Thousand Machinations lightly tapped their thigh with some claws. "He did use his brain a bit unnecessarily… Forget it, I will still treat this as entertainment."
Passing through the gate, Lu Yin entered Vestigium and then continued on to the Qi Megaverse to meet with Furball.
"Perhaps Devouring Trace's death made Thousand Machinations dissatisfied with me. They want me to kill the Lepidarch as soon as possible. They might not be willing to wait several hundred years," Lu Yin reported.
Furball regretfully replied, "Fine. That human civilization is simply lucky. Contact the toad. Once it is here, we will all act together."
Lu Yin was grateful. "Thank you for your help, Senior."
"No need to be polite."
"Please send me as close to the Lepidarch as possible, Senior. I will look for an opportunity to strike." With the skeleton clone's abilities, it was not easy for Lu Yin to find the Lepidarch, and he had to rely on Furball.
He had to consider Thousand Machinations from the perspective of this clone and the Death Megaverse while also considering Furball from the standpoint of this clone and Obscura.
"All right." After saying that, Furball took out another gate.
"There is one more matter I would like to trouble you with, Senior. Of course, if it cannot be done, then you need not consider it."
"What is it? Just say it."
Lu Yin paused for a moment. "Put pressure on the Death Megaverse."
Furball did not understand. "What do you mean?"
"I have suspected for some time that there might be someone from the Death Megaverse within Obscura, and that has now been confirmed. I reported to Vestigium that the Death Megaverse will soon go to war with Obscura, and as soon as I returned to the Death Megaverse, Thousand Machinations commented on it. This could also be why they have become dissatisfied with me and are forcing me to kill the Lepidarch." After a pause, Lu Yin continued to say, "Now that this matter has been made clear, I hope that Obscura can put some pressure on the Death Megaverse to ensure that Thousand Machinations will not continue watching me."
Furball roared, "Is there really a spy? Hmph! Don’t let me find out who, or I will slaughter them!"
"Your loyalty to Obscura is admirable, Senior."
"It is not because of Obscura, but because this matter has affected me now."
"Hmm?"
"Forget it. I won’t talk about that. I understand what you mean. You want me to keep Thousand Machinations from monitoring you as much as possible, right? I will try."
"Thank you, Senior." After saying that, Lu Yin stepped through the gate and disappeared.
When he reappeared, he was already in another megaverse. He did not know where he was, but neither did he need to know. He sat down cross-legged and awakened his true body.
In the Qi Megaverse, Furball stared in the direction of Thousand Machinations' Abyss and stepped out of the megaverse.
In the Tianyuan, Lu Yin opened his eyes and disappeared, teleporting away.
He appeared in front of his clone. This megaverse was very close to the Tianyuan, so he did not hesitate at all. Doing so would sever the linked consciousness.
After taking the skeleton back to his place of seclusion in the Tianyuan, Lu Yin calculated some coordinates, looked in a specific direction, and then teleported away.
He was heading to the location of the Grand Clarity Civilization’s ruins.
Since Ancestor Shan had written the coordinates on a plate of armor, the location would not be useless. After all, everything written on those plates was intended for humanity and the Seven-Treasure Anuras.
The Grand Clarity ruins were very far away, even farther than the Plume Immortals’ great tree.
In the scale of the cosmic Mother Tree that stretched across the Aevum Inch, the location that he was headed to was several branches away from the Trio.
Those branches were difficult to see with the naked eye, and it was impossible to touch them. Only the small twigs growing from those branches could be seen and touched, and those twigs were the ubiquitous Mother Trees that existed in various megaverses.
The only thing that Lu Yin could not understand was that, since a Mother Tree was a small twig, it had to be fixed to that cosmic Mother Tree. So then, how did megaverses move? This should be related to the branches that could be neither seen nor touched.
Lu Yin teleported again and again, finally arriving at the location indicated by the coordinates. There, he saw four megaverses linked together in pairs, forming a shape that looked like a cube from a distance.
He had never seen such a megaverse before. These megaverses were so close to each other that this was definitely not a coincidence, just like how the Nine Odysseys Megaverse sat above the Spirit Nidus.
This was the location of the Grand Clarity Civilization's ruins.
Lu Yin looked inside the megaverses. Black mountain ranges could be seen everywhere, stretching out endlessly to cover the entire universe. There was no sunlight; the universe was filled with loneliness and darkness. It looked even more like a Death Megaverse Abyss than Thousand Machinations' Abyss did.
Ordinary people could not survive in such an environment, and yet creatures had still propagated across the universe. They were both large and small, though all had pointed heads and black bodies. Countless of them ran through the mountains.
Scanning the four megaverses, Lu Yin saw that there were not many creatures that could cultivate. What he saw was similar to common barren planets scattered throughout a typical universe.
Lu Yin teleported into one and scanned the four megaverses in an instant. The truth was that no creature here cultivated. Even though there were many species running about, all of them gave him a feeling of desolation.
His consciousness continuously searched the four megaverses, and he discovered traces of many sourcebox arrays. He also found quite a few primal talismans. The materials that they were made from were very valuable, so Lu Yin stored them away. Unfortunately, all of the sourcebox arrays stored within the primal talismans had already vanished, though he did not know whether they had naturally worn away or if they had been released by Grand Clarity.
Logically, when the Grand Clarity Civilization left, these primal talismans should not have been left behind. After all, the materials were useful to them as well.
Or had the primal talismans been brought to these megaverses by individual creatures only after Grand Clarity had left?
Lu Yin roamed the lands, constantly searching for traces of Grand Clarity. He was very interested in the civilization’s sourcebox arrays.
