This surprised Lu Yin. Were there actually other Divine Palaces?
Was it possible that, aside from the region of the Aevum Inch where he had come from, everything was overseen by Divine Palaces? Were the representatives of the other Primacy Paths all Divine Palaces as well?
However, even if that were accurate, why would the Divine Palaces slaughter one another?
He suddenly thought of how fishing civilizations constantly fished in order to exterminate other cosmic civilizations. Once one civilization encountered another, war was essentially a cosmic rule. Perhaps this was a different kind of rule.
This skipped the stage of discovering and fishing for civilizations and proceeded straight to forcing one civilization against another beneath the Primacy Paths’ Divine Palaces, making them slaughter one another in order to consume the strength of civilizations.
Could that be what was happening? Lu Yin was only guessing.
In truth, compared to the chaotic region of the Aevum Inch’s fishing or discovery by luck, civilizations in this place were discovered, dominated, and put to war so that they could be destroyed with purpose. It was more orderly, yet it was also more ruthless. This essentially cleared away the fog of war so that all enemies could see one another. Whoever they wanted to destroy could be destroyed.
Meanwhile, the Trio’s old region of the Aevum Inch was still hiding everything.
He continued rolling his die. He could not rely on guesses to gain knowledge.
As he Possessed more Return Realm gods, Lu Yin learned more and more.
If one combat god was lucky enough to learn a single secret, then by Possessing many combat gods, the number of secrets that Lu Yin learned would naturally increase.
For example, he learned which of the thirteen divine envoys were at odds with each other and who plotted against whom.
For example, where the lord of the Divine Palace had once appeared.
For example, the fact that the Divine Palace contained several thousand branch streams of the River of Aeons.
Lu Yin ended the Possession, shaken. Several thousand? Could that be real?
Previously, the Death Megaverse had spent an enormous amount of time and used the foundation of countless years of gaining knowledge of various megaverses to collect around 100 branches of the River of Aeons, and that had already been considered very impressive.
Did this Divine Palace actually have several thousand? Could it really be so exaggerated?
Lu Yin stared off into space. In truth, if the Divine Palace in this region of the Aevum Inch was aware of most of the megaverses here, this might not be impossible.
After all, a combat god’s territory included quite a few megaverses. If each megaverse had one branch of the River of Aeons, then adding them all up would lead to an astounding number.
Also, the branches of the River of Aeons seemed to be more than just that. The time harvested by the gods of the various regions were delivered through the branches of the River of Aeons and could also create new branches.
Was it possible that the several thousand branches of the River of Aeons were an offering that the Divine Palace gave to the main stream? Perhaps the Divine Palace also needed to make offerings.
Lu Yin thought of Old Man Hehe. That old fellow was forced to pathetically collect branches of the River of Aeons one by one. If they learned that this Divine Palace had gathered so many, would their eyes turn red with greed?
Even Lu Yin was tempted. He also wanted to cultivate the powers of the Primacy Paths so that, when he inevitably faced the powers of the Primacy Paths again in the future, he would not be completely helpless.
Time was one of those powers. If he could resist the main stream of the River of Aeons and the Temporal Primacy Path, that would be enough.
However, the amount of the power of time that he needed to accomplish that was unimaginable.
While there seemed to be something ready-made right before him, the Divine Palace was not easily provoked. Obtaining these branches of the River of Aeons would not be simple.
Lu Yin still had to personally go to the Divine Palace.
He looked in one direction, his gaze crossing a vast distance to look at a resplendent golden building. That was where Yan Zhong was.
The combat god that he had Possessed before had met Lü. Upon locating that combat god, Lu Yin was able to use it as a reference point to determine Lü's location and thus Yan Zhong's location.
Lu Yin vanished, teleporting away.
When he reappeared, he was in an unfamiliar region of outer space. He was far away from Yan Zhong, having gone to Lü's location.
Lü was sitting on an altar, answering the question of a creature from some cosmic civilization.
Lu Yin casually found the altar of a random civilization and controlled a creature of that civilization to initiate contact with Lü.
By now, Lu Yin was very familiar with the use of these altars, having Possessed many gods.
These altars allowed beings to teleport between them, functioning in a similar manner to Obscura’s gates.
Obscura’s gates used the main stream of the River of Aeons to connect different locations, while these altars also used the River of Aeons for their teleportation, though they used branch streams instead.
Every region had its own altars, and an altar could connect to any other within the same region. To connect to another region, one needed to request permission.
Using an altar in this manner incurred no small cost. Even the various combat gods could not bear it easily. Much of the time, Return Realm gods paid the price with their territories.
Beneath the altar, a creature knelt on the ground in worship as a figure appeared upon the altar. It was Lü.
"What do you seek?" Lü asked.
The creature beneath the altar prostrated itself. "I seek nothing. I merely wish to behold the face of a god."
Lü's eyes instantly flared. Those words were a signal, one from combat god Gong Xia. The plan could be started. It could finally begin.
From when it had been extremely weak, Lü had been valued by combat god Gong Xia, and it had been raised up step by step. Gong Xia had allowed it to enter the battlefield and approach Yan Zhong, with Yan Gong being the ultimate target.
As long as Yan Gong was dealt with, Lü would be able to return as combat god Gong Xia’s subordinate. At that time, it would receive cultivation resources. Combat god Gong Xia had promised that it would definitely allow Lü to comprehend the power of Return and receive a territory.
At that point, Lü would be able to hold its head high within the Divine Palace, just like Yan Zhong.
Yan Zhong, did you really think that I would submit beneath you forever? If not for me on the battlefield, you would have died long ago. This day has finally come.
In the resplendent golden palace, creatures were constantly entering and exiting, carrying giant plates filled with food. As some creatures went in and others came out, the food on the plates was reduced to mere scraps, and even more creatures cleaned the palace to ensure that it remained clean.
Lü arrived and swept a disgusted glance across the floor. Nearby, a bone that had not been gnawed clean was stuck to the floor. Strands of blood trailed from it. Two creatures hurried over to collect the bone and clean the area, bowing respectfully to Lü as they passed.
Lü ignored the two creatures and proceeded towards the palace.
Upon entering the palace, it was surrounded by creatures going in and out everywhere, and the aroma of food filled the entire place.
"Greetings, High God." Lü bowed respectfully. The disgust in its eyes had been withdrawn the moment it stepped into the palace, replaced by humility.
Up ahead stood a huge golden table that was covered with food. A short white creature that was only a bit more than one meter tall had his head buried inside a bone as he sucked out the marrow. This white creature looked a great deal like a rat, and his round head gave it a rather jolly appearance. This was Yan Zhong.
Upon hearing Lü's voice, Yan Zhong raised his head, strips of meat still clinging to it. "Why have you come back? Using the altars even once is quite costly."
As soon as the creature finished speaking, he buried his head back inside the bone and continued eating.
Lü used a respectful tone as it spoke. "Because I have obtained news regarding the Divine Palace's Third Sequence, I could not wait to come find High God."
The bone shattered, and Yan Zhong suddenly charged over in front of Lü. His excited little eyes stared at Lü. "What? You have news about the Third Sequence? Is this true?"
Lü replied, "How would I dare to deceive the High God about such a thing? Although this is not absolutely certain, the general location has been found."
"Where?"
"In High God Qian Ling's territory, not far from here."
Yan Zhong pondered. "High God Qian Ling? That one is not easy to deal with. If it learns of this, it will definitely try to obstruct us."
Lü's voice grew cold. "As long as the Third Sequence is awakened, High God Qian Ling is nothing more than a Void Realm god. What can it possibly do?"
Yan Zhong nodded. "The Third Sequence is my father's sworn senior brother. By that reckoning, he is my uncle, but he suddenly disappeared one day. Rumors say that something went wrong with his cultivation and that no one knows where he went. It is precisely because the Third Sequence disappeared that my father is now being targeted in the Divine Palace. The Third Sequence’s old enemies have always been searching for a way to deal with my father. If we can bring the Third Sequence back, there will be no further problems.
"Moreover, if my father wants to go one step further, the Third Sequence is crucial." As it considered things, it made up its mind. "Let's go. We will not inform Qian Ling and will secretly enter its territory."
Lü looked troubled. "If we do not inform High God Qian Ling, how can we travel across such a vast region of the Aevum Inch? Even if we know where we are going, reaching our destination will take endless years. This is not a distance that Dukkhans like us can traverse."
"Then we will let my father think of a way to lure Qian Ling away." Yan Zhong's expression grew fierce. No matter who, no one would stop him from bringing back the Third Sequence.
The Divine Palace’s sequences were all powerhouses capable of attempting to break through to the Immortal realm, and the Third Sequence ranked third in the entire Divine Palace. There were only two who stood before him, and receiving the right to attempt a breakthrough did not mean that one would necessarily make that attempt. It merely meant that, whenever a megaverse was reset, those ranked higher would be allowed to choose whether they went.
A megaverse had long since been prepared for the Third Sequence’s breakthrough, one that happened to correspond to his ideal cultivation environment. As long as the Third Sequence was ready, the megaverse could be reset.
Although there was no way to be absolutely certain when it came to a breakthrough, increasing one’s chances by thirty percent on top of their original foundation was certainly possible.
This was already an absurdly high rate of success. This was an opportunity that their people had waited countless years for. Long ago, the Third Sequence had befriended their kind for this very reason.
But right when the right time was approaching, the Third Sequence had disappeared. Their painstaking efforts could not be wasted.
Lu Yin watched everything from the distance. Neither Yan Zhong nor Lü's actions could be hidden from him in any way.
He waited quietly, and after some time, the two moved away and left through the altar.
Lu Yin abruptly looked over in a specific direction. Since he had Possessed Lü, he knew the altar locations throughout Yan Zhong's assigned territory. Naturally, Lu Yin was very clear about the altar locations that led towards Qian Ling's territory, and Lu Yin immediately saw the two creatures.
They immediately continued moving onwards.
Lu Yin teleported after them again and again, only keeping an eye on them until they entered Qian Ling's territory. After waiting for a while, they began moving between the altars of that territory.
Lu Yin was not aware of the locations of the altars in this territory, but he did know where Lü intended to lead Yan Zhong.
To be precise, the goal was not to lure Yan Zhong anywhere, but rather to use Yan Zhong to lure Yan Gong over. That was Gong Xia’s true objective. It wanted to use Yan Zhong to draw out Yan Gong and then kill him in order to eliminate a hidden threat.
Such schemes frequently played out within the Divine Palace. It was not like Obscura; there were no rules forbidding one from targeting another member of the Divine Palace. In this place, no one would ask questions whenever someone else died. Even the divine envoy who had accepted Yan Gong as their disciple would not look into the matter because this was a rule of the Divine Palace: if others could scheme against you, then you had to have the ability to scheme against them in return. Those without ability were not qualified to survive.
Unless one was a blood relative who genuinely cared about another, not even a master would seek justice for their disciple.
This was also what gave Gong Xia the confidence to plot against Yan Gong. After all, no one could protect Gong Xia if it offended the divine envoy who was Yan Gong’s master.
At the same time, far away from the Divine Palace, in a place that was covered with stones, Yan Gong’s eyes suddenly opened. For some reason, he felt rather uneasy, though he could not understand just what was wrong.
