Volume 8, Chapter 53: One Doesn't Visit the Three Treasures Hall Without a Reason

After the last Time-Web spell, the bond between Leon and Rosvisser had deepened once again.

Leon still remembered something his old master had once told him—that when love reaches a certain height, it eventually transforms into family affection. Back then, Leon had just gotten married, while his master didn’t even have anyone to date, so he couldn’t understand what that meant at all.

To Leon, family affection was family affection, and love was love. The first was something you were born with; the second had to be built over time.

How could a feeling slowly cultivated ever turn into something as innate as kinship?

But after so many years of marriage to Rosvisser, Leon’s view had changed. He was beginning to understand what his master had meant.

It wasn’t that only blood ties could be called kinship, or that the feelings forged through trials and everyday life could only be called love.

The transition between the two was a long, subtle process—how long it took depended entirely on the hearts of those involved.

He and Rosvisser had faced countless dangers, brushed against death again and again, hearts pounding as they looked toward each other — and afterward, they had shared all those plain, mundane days together.

Through mountains and valleys, through passion and peace, the one who stood beside each of them had always been the other.

That was when love began to become something more—the beginning of its transformation into kinship.

Leon knew he and Rosvisser still had a long road ahead. There were many things they would face in their long lives—not all smooth, not all easy—but one thing was certain:

They would keep walking it together, just as they always had.

And with that thought, even the most uncertain future felt full of hope.

Winter break at Saint Heath Academy was coming to an end.

A week before the new term began, Constantine paid a visit—bringing along his young red-dragon daughter, Hefei.

"As the saying goes, one doesn’t visit the Three Treasures Hall without a reason. That fire-spitting lizard hasn’t visited anyone’s house in eight hundred years—if he’s here now, he must want something."

While waiting in the parlor for the guests to arrive, Leon said it with his usual grin.

Rosvisser smiled.

"Can’t he just visit for once? He’s got to manage his own Red Flame Dragon Clan and look after all those Void Home Faction defectors—the pressure must be enormous. Maybe he’s just out stretching his wings, clearing his head."

Leon shook his head. "If he were clearing his head, he’d pick a mountain and blow it up, not come for a stroll. My bet? He found some treasure and can’t handle it alone, so he’s come begging for help."

Rosvisser only smiled quietly, waiting.

Before long, the doors to the parlor opened, and Constantine entered, holding Hefei’s hand.

"Thank you, Aunt Anna," Hefei said sweetly.

Anna blinked and smiled. "Welcome, little Hefei."

After leading the guests inside, Anna shut the door and left.

"Uncle Leon, Aunt Rosvisser! Long time no see~"

"Long time no see, Hefei," Leon replied, standing to ruffle the little dragon girl’s hair.

"Muse and the others are at the university hall," he added. "But they’re one short for their team—if you join, they’ll have a full five."

Hefei’s eyes sparkled.

"Then I’d better go help Muse!"

She darted out of the parlor, heading straight for the back garden.

"Be careful, Hefei. Don’t hurt your friends—or yourself," Constantine called after her.

"I know, Father!" Hefei waved without looking back.

Constantine watched her disappear around the corner of the corridor before finally turning away.

And met Leon’s very pointed stare.

The Fire Dragon King frowned. "What?"

Leon shrugged, sat back down, and said lightly, "Nothing. Just noticed you seem more worried about Hefei lately. You never used to pay her much mind."

Constantine’s expression tightened. He paused for a few seconds, then said in a low voice:

"I just don’t want her to accidentally hurt your daughters. She’s... too strong for her own good."

Leon grinned. Typical hard-headed dragon logic.

He didn’t argue further, but another thought crossed his mind.

"So, dropping by uninvited—must be something urgent, right, A-Yan?"

"Somewhat urgent, but not dire," Constantine said with a nod. "And who told you that name, ‘A-Yan’?"

Leon spread his hands. "If I said I dreamed it, would you believe me?"

"If I said I came to worship you, would you believe me?"

Rosvisser rolled her eyes and waved them off. "You two idiots can bicker without me. I’ve got work to finish."

When a Dragon King visits, etiquette demands a Dragon King host them—but this time Constantine had clearly come for Leon alone, so Rosvisser had no place in the talk.

It was like when your husband’s drinking buddies show up uninvited—you smile politely and then make yourself scarce.

Once she left, Leon leaned forward. "So, it’s about Aurora’s time power, right?"

Constantine nodded. "I remember. But didn’t you say her temporal ability was weak? That she could only do things like rekindle a cocoon?"

"That’s true, but lately she’s made huge progress. What can I say—" Leon grinned. "She’s my daughter, after all~"

Constantine gave him a flat look. "→_→"

Before Leon could get too smug, Constantine cut him off. "Get to the point. The name."

"Ahem—fine."

Leon explained, "She used an old memory-reversion spell and combined it with time power to create a virtual world—an alternate timeline.

That world starts from more than ten years ago, when I was not betrayed by the Empire..."

By the time Leon finished recounting what had happened inside that temporal web, Constantine’s expression had turned grave.

"So that’s how it was... you actually met him."

"That person who saved you—who was he? A friend?" Leon asked.

Constantine sat down slowly, shaking his head.

"No. Not a friend. His name is Wu. He’s... my older brother."

"Your brother? You actually have a brother?"

Leon was surprised—though not as shocked as when he’d first learned Constantine had a daughter.

"Ah, that explains it," Leon said. "No wonder I thought he looked a bit like you in the virtual world. Family resemblance, huh."

Constantine nodded silently, his face tightening into a rare, heavy solemnity.

Leon could tell—the dragon named Wu was... special to him.

He’d thought to use the word important, but the feeling Constantine showed wasn’t quite that of affection. So special was all Leon could settle on.

"He’s not part of the Red Flame Clan anymore, is he?" Leon asked.

In the virtual world, he’d faintly heard Constantine say, “Weren’t you exiled?”

"That’s right. Centuries ago, he clashed with the Dragon King over how the clan should be run. After that, he was exiled. But truth is, he left willingly. The ‘banishment’ was just what the clan told the outside world."

"Centuries ago, the Red Flame Clan’s way of doing things?"

Leon didn’t need to think too hard. Even just a few decades ago, Constantine had perfectly embodied the worst stereotypes about dragons: violent, vengeful, impossible to reason with.

So for his brother to rebel against that kind of clan, his nature must have been completely different—which also explained why, after being exiled, he’d still cared enough to save Constantine’s life in that virtual world.

As for why he hadn’t shown up decades ago, when Leon himself killed Constantine... well, probably because...

"He died too fast to make it in time," Leon muttered under his breath.

"Have you been in contact all these years?" he asked aloud.

Constantine shook his head. "No. The last letter I got from him was decades ago."

He paused, then lowered his eyes.

"I don’t even know if he’s still alive."

Leon raised an eyebrow. "But if he saved you in that virtual world, that means he was alive at least thirteen years ago. For dragons, thirteen years is nothing. He’s probably still out there—hiding in some mountain forest somewhere."

Constantine exhaled. "I hope so....Still, thank you, Leon."

"For what?"

"I always assumed, with his temperament, that he’d died long ago in some internal clan war. It’s good to know he lived, at least that long."

He seemed visibly relieved.

Leon realized then that Constantine wasn’t as cold or emotionless as he looked.

After a moment, Leon tilted his head. "So, what did you actually come here for today?"

Constantine gathered himself and said, "Oh, nothing major. I just wanted to ask you a few questions."

"Go on."

But for once, the ever-straightforward Fire Dragon King fell silent—as if hesitating, unsure how to put it.

Leon raised an eyebrow.

"What’s with you? You came all the way here and now you can’t talk? Don’t tell me it’s something embarrassing?"

Constantine shook his head.

"Not exactly. I just want to know... what does it mean if you keep dreaming about the same person?"
