Volume 8, Chapter 72: The Final Vote

Constantine slowly opened his eyes, though his awareness had not yet fully returned.

It felt as if he had woken from an exceedingly long dream—and even after centuries of storms and time,he could not immediately detach himself from what he had just seen.

In a haze, Constantine heard Leon and Rosvisser speaking.

“If the one Cloti saw through Soul-Sight Resonance who could reignite the sun bore the name Constantine, then besides the Flame Dragon King, it has to be his elder brother,” Leon said.

Rosvisser nodded.

“Now that the sun is about to go out, a natural crisis on this scale—if Constantine’s brother is still alive, there is no way he doesn’t know. He will definitely return to the Red Flame Dragon Clan to search for the Golden Helm. Even if he doesn’t believe he is the one who can save the world, in the face of danger, his sense of responsibility will not allow him to continue running.”

Leon agreed with her assessment.

“So next, Constantine will stay here and wait for Wu to return. Even if we sent people to search, he has been exiled for nearly two hundred years—he can’t be found easily. So we can only wait.”

“Mm...”

Rosvisser paused for a moment, then smiled.

“But with your personality, there’s no way you’ll just sit at home and wait, right?”

Leon also smiled.

“You really do understand me, wife.”

But then he exhaled.

“Still... aside from waiting for Wu, we have nothing else we can do. We still know too little about the Golden Helm. And putting it on Constantine now would be far too dangerous. If the Flame Dragon King gets burned to ash, I’ll have no way to explain it to Hefei.”

Leon was right.

Even though they now understood the origins of the Golden Helm and the Soul-Sight Resonance Apollo left concerning Constantine—they still could not recklessly have him wear it.

Especially when Wu had vanished again.

Their understanding of the Golden Helm was shallow at best.

Just because Apollo once said that someone with the name Constantine could be acknowledged by the Helm did not guarantee that one of the two brothers was destined to be the savior.

It had only been a prophetic dream made with the help of the God of Time—with no clear timeline or procedure.

If something were to go wrong, and either brother was devoured by the Helm’s power—just like the dozens of Blazing Sun warriors before—Leon’s side would lose the last hope of reigniting the sun.

This risk could not be taken.

So for now, the safest and most stable course was simply to wait for Wu’s return.

Rosvisser considered for a moment, then spoke:

“I do have a suggestion. Want to hear it?”

Leon’s eyes brightened.

“Wife, stop keeping me in suspense. At this point the sun is practically ashes—no, wait, if we stall any longer it won’t exist anymore.”

He said “now is not the time for suspense,” yet he himself continued to joke abstractly as always.

The Queen pressed her lips together, smiling softly.

“Go to Blazing Sun City and find Orion.”

Leon raised an eyebrow, slightly puzzled.

“Why go to that captain? She’s Cloti Pyx’s adopted daughter. And from what we’ve seen, Cloti didn’t tell Orion much about the Golden Helm.”

He paused and summarized:

“The information we have now doesn’t seem much different from what Orion knows.”

Rosvisser nodded.

“Yes, I know. But I don’t believe Cloti would leave nothing behind. She couldn’t openly reveal what she knew in Blazing Sun City—but she could still express everything she needed to in an extremely hidden way. Someone simply needs to be able to find it. The Queen of Silver Dragons is quite skilled in the domain of illumination,” she said softly, the moonlight shifting across her expression.

“If it were me, I would not simply die without leaving anything behind. Even if I could not leave concrete information, I would leave a trace of myself, to prove I was not the person others thought I was. What do you think, Leon?”

Thinking of it this way, Cloti’s suicide truly did seem... bitter.

A woman calm, resolute, and capable of activating Soul-Sight Resonance with Apollo would not simply die helpless and without leaving anything behind.

Leon thought quietly for a few moments, then nodded.

“Alright. Then we split into two groups. The Flame Dragon King will stay home and wait for his elder brother. The two of us will go to Blazing Sun City to search for any clues Cloti left behind.”

“Mm.”

The couple continued speaking—and soon, Constantine stirred awake beside them.

They turned. Leon lifted a cup of water and brought it to Constantine’s side.

“The Memory Reversion spell ended about three hours ago. Drink some water.”

Constantine accepted the cup and took a small sip, clearing his thoughts.

“I heard what you said. When are you planning to depart for Blazing Sun City?”

Leon shrugged.

“Whenever. We can leave now.”

He walked to the window and pulled aside the curtain.

Outside, everything was dark and heavy—an oppressive atmosphere shrouding the entire Silver Dragon Territory—no, the entire continent.

Fun fact:

It was noon.

But it looked no different from approaching night.

Leon lowered the curtain.

“The scholars in Blazing Sun City miscalculated. The rate of the sun’s extinction is irregular. Which means—we do not actually have thirteen days left. So we should leave immediately. Of course, Constantine, your task is to wait for your brother. With something this serious happening, he will absolutely remember the Golden Helm. You just need to stay here and... Flame Dragon?...Constantine? Are you listening to me?”

Constantine had fallen into thought without realizing.

When Leon called him, he returned to himself.

“Ah? Ah... sorry. I was thinking about something.”

Leon stepped closer, hands in his pockets.

“What is it?”

Constantine held the cup in both hands, looking at the reflection of his own face in the water.

He examined himself.

He peeled himself apart.

He confronted himself.

Then he closed his eyes slowly and exhaled.

“I was thinking about whether I am really the person he said I was. He said he saw kindness and love in me—but I don’t feel any of that. Especially after becoming the Flame Dragon King, I have spent almost every day soaked in blood and conflict. What kindness... what love... None of that has anything to do with me.”

Constantine lifted his head and looked at Leon.

“Leon, why do you think my brother said those words?”

When Leon had watched that memory fragment, he too had once silently mocked it—

Kindness, love, Flame Dragon King—the level of contradiction was theatrical.

But Wu was not someone who would joke just to amuse a child.

He would not use words that heavy without reason.

Perhaps Wu had seen those qualities in Constantine’s heart—qualities Constantine had sealed away so deeply that even he himself could not perceive them.

Leon suddenly recalled something the Tower Master once told him.

“Flame Dragon, do you remember long ago, when Sky City was founded?” Leon asked.

Constantine nodded.

“I remember. Why?”

“The Tower Master told me that when the Dragon Kings gathered to decide the fate of the dragon refugees—”

Leon spoke slowly:

“Some Dragon Kings wanted to drive the refugees out, to prevent future unrest. Some avoided involvement entirely, refusing to share resources. But the Tower Master and Odin supported establishing Sky City, to give the refugees a place to live. The vote came down to a tie. Only one vote remained.”

Leon placed his hand gently on Constantine’s shoulder.

“You were the final vote that allowed Sky City to be founded—and saved countless homeless lives, Constantine.”
